The Riot at Comiskey Park

2020-11-2431:5810

In 1979, disco was a dominant force in American music. It took the top spots in the Billboard charts, and sold countless records. But with its culturally diverse audience, disco faced a major backlash. And that would lead to a crisis one evening in July of 1979, when a promotional event at a baseball game turned into a riot. Vince Lawrence was at that game, and has since become a music producer and documentary filmmaker. He and Lindsay discuss the meaning of that infamous night, and how disco’s legacy is still with us today, in music and in culture.Listen to new episodes 1 week early and to all episodes ad free with Wondery+. And although there was distrust around Charles Warren, he wasn’t the only suspect when Sheree went missing. She also had a boyfriend, a former cop named Cary Hartmann, who lived a sinister double life.Season three follows two suspects– men who both raised suspicion for investigators. But with two strong persons of interest with competing facts and evidence, it muddied the murder investigation. This season, host Dave Cawley, digs into the lives of these two men, the details of the case and examines the intersections between domestic abuse and sexual violence. Impossible to listen to any words that flow out of lowlife, loser Lady Graham.

the male voice for Riki Ott keeps throwing me off. why didn't they just get a woman to do the voice over? it's confusing because I keep thinking it's a man named Ricky and then they refer to Riki as "she/her". I finally had to Google it to find out if it's a man or a woman. and even watched her interview to see if she sounds like a male and she sounds just like a regular woman. great podcast but that male voice for her just threw me off

$50 million to settle a class action lawsuit when they KNEW they did wrong - that's a laugh and a half! $50 million divided amongst 70,000 plaintiffs is still only $714 apiece, far less than you'll need to address a lifetime of health problems. That amount won't even see you through one ER visit, not even one ambulance ride. Utterly ridiculous.

Shocking that this happened during my lifetime and this is the first I've heard of it. It just goes to show that corporations will NEVER do the right thing, unless they are forced to.

Every penny of profit, ever made by dupont, needs to be expropriated and put into a fund dedicated to studying and finding a solution to clean up these "forever" chemicals. Gotta love capitalism smfh

Enron episodes are NOT accurate. I worked in same dept as Fastow and Watkins in the mid 90s. Makes me wonder if all the other "stories" on this podcast are as false.
