This episode is part of the Oral History Project sponsored by the Mar Thoma Orthodox Church, celebrating the life of its late Bishop Veron Ashe. Deaconess Ruth was a member of the community in Fresno, CA and responsible for teaching formation to new members (Catechumen). She and Bishop Cheryl discuss some of the lessons they learned as his students.
Trailer: The conversation continues between Amma Naomi and Deaconess Ruth on diversity & culture in the early church, to help acknowledge biases that have become a part of theolog. Beliefs of racial or gender inferiority and/or superiority in society are reflective of the Euro/American Christian model which conflicts with Christ’s teachings of ‘Love your neighbor’ .
Bishop Naomi & Deaconess Ruth share their thoughts on culture & Christianity in the early church years. The discussion was prompted by a televangelist’s sermon rebuking the Black church for supporting a particular candidate during this 2024 election (excerpt links referenced below). As American’s of African descent, female clergy, and businesswomen, the message impacted them on many levels. The key question, did words spoken reflect Christ? This is a short pop up podcast to encourage listeners to continue reading and if they haven’t to join us in reading Crazy Faith by Pastor Michael Todd. Being asked to step out of the boat and walk on water in the midst of a storm is crazy. Being asked to throw a net on the other side of the boat to catch fish when you have been fishing in the same place all day is crazy. Doing what Jesus asks can make you feel like you have lost your reasoning but you are just fine!

We are all given divine gifts to share with this world. Why are we not walking fully and unapologetically in our purpose? There are many influences but one that is often overlooked or omitted is self-sabotage. In this episode, I introduce my personal journey and how I am empowering myself to love and support myself as I pursue my divine calling and purpose. #awakenthekingdomwithinpodcast #BEyourdivineyou

Why The Hate?

This Meditative Monday’s, special devotional podcast for September, we continue to share thoughts inspired by the lessons from St. John. Hate is a sign ‬of darkness. Children of love, walk in the light. “He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now.” ‭‭I John‬ ‭2:9‬ ‭NKJV‬.
