Description

We're two guys covering all kinds of cult films from horror to action and everything in between. We try to bring funny and engaging content with our unique personalities, and we also review beer in each episode as well. Some of our past and present coverage includes Halloween specials, series retrospectives, Difficult Films month, Red Hot '80s Action Summer, '90s remakes, and a lot more. It's a pretty eclectic mix here, but if you're into cult films and beer, this is the place to be.

For this episode of HaHaHalloween, we wanted to throw things back a ways to some of the earliest horror parodies. What better than Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, a monster mashup that started the craze of the comedy duo meeting various Universal monsters. We talk about the appeal of this Avengers of horror, the slapstick comedy the two perfected, and Martin's disdain for Bela Lugosi?!Approximate timeline0:00-15:00 Intro15:00-25:00 Beer talk25:00-end Abbott and Costello Meet FrankensteinHaHaHalloween continues all Halloween season!
We return to the slasher format for our fourth episode in our Halloween horror parody series. Here we tackle Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, which attempts to see the slasher film from the killer's perspective, giving some pointed examples of the reasoning behind slasher films with its meta commentary while at the same time offering up half of a real slasher film in its own right. We talk about the jokes, the allure of a killer like Leslie Vernon, and how well the films plays off the slasher tropes. We're also drinking Sierra Nevada's 2025 Bigfoot barleywine-style ale!Approximate timeline0:00-10:00 Intro10:00-20:00 Beer talk20:00-end Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie VernonHaHaHalloween continues all Halloween season!
Continuing our horror parody/comedy Halloween season, we move from slasher films to zombies as we take a look at The Dead Don't Die from 2019. This was a particular divisive movie when it released, pairing the sardonic sensibilities of a Wes Anderson movie with the more traditional undead tropes. We talk about how well this works out, if the theme is too heavy-handed, and a whole lot more in this appreciation of Bill Murray and Adam Driver. We're also drinking Wicked Grove (Aldi) Black Cherry Imperial Hard Cider!Approximate timeline0:00-10:00 Intro10:00-20:00 Beer talk20:00-end The Dead Don't DieHaHaHalloween continues all Halloween season!
If Club Dread was a traditional slasher parody, Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil takes things in a different direction by upending the usual formulas; instead of college co-eds being the targets, they become the killers in this comedy about a giant misunderstanding. We talk about the hilarious circumventing of tropes, the great 2010s feel, and how well the conceit orks over a full-length film. We're also drinking Southern Tier's new Buffalo Bills-themed IPA can!Approximate timeline0:00-7:00 Intro7:00-14:00 Beer talk14:00-end Tucker and Dale Vs. EvilHaHaHalloween continues all Halloween season!
We're starting the Halloween season off with our first horror parody, and we wanted a soft start - and what better way than to lead out of the summer season with Club Dread, set at a resort and satirizing slasher tropes. While neither of us were completely enamored with Broken Lizard's attempt at spoofing the usual stalker cliches, we did enjoy Bill Paxton's antics as a Jimmy Buffet-lite musician. We're also drinking Sierra Nevada's new Oktoberfest collaboration with Stortebeker in this spookified episode!Approximate timeline0:00-10:00 Intro10:00-18:00 Beer talk18:00-end Club DreadHaHaHalloween continues all September and October, weekly!
We end this '90s action summer with The Matrix, a film that hit at the tail end of the decade just before the millennium. In this episode, we talk about the lasting impression, the inspirations behind the movie including anime and science fiction (some of which we've already covered), and how the film holds up after almost 30 years. We're also drinking Benediktiner's Weissbier!Approximate timeline0:00-11:00 Intro11:00-20:00 Beer talk20:00-end The MatrixUp next: we start our Halloween shenanigans and the theme is: Horror Parodies!
Continuing Red Hot Action Summer, we take a look at John Carpenter's less-revered sequel Escape from L.A., which returns to Snake 15 years later and adds a whole lot more bad CGI to the mix. We talk about the unnecessary plot twists in the film, Bruce Campbell being a shining star, and Pam Grier making an appearance! We're also drinking Prison City's Mass Riot New England IPA.Approximate timeline0:00-11:00 Intro11:00-20:00 Beer talk20:00-end Escape from L.A.Next up: The Matrix!
Continuing our '90s action summer, we're taking on something with a bit more of a science fiction atmosphere with Paul Verhoeven's Total Recall. It's great to have Arnold back on the show and here we discuss whether we're all just living in a dream, whether we'd partake in a recall memory, and the unequivocal hotness of '90s Sharon Stone. We're also drinking Sloop Brewing's Jungle Juice sour with tart cherry and pineapple.Approximate timeline0:00-8:00 Intro8:00-16:00 Beer talk16:00-end Total RecallNext up: Escape from LA!
Red Hot '90s Action Summer is back, baby! We've got some fun picks for this year, and we're starting things off with the Jackie Chan/Chris Tucker buddy cop movie Rush Hour! We talk about how nice this mashup of Hong Kong martial arts and American crime dramas feels, the stunts, the laughs, and a whole lot more. We're also drinking Adirondack Brewing Co.'s Lake George's IPA!Approximate timeline0:00-8:00 Intro8:00-17:00 Beer talk17:00-end Rush HourNext up: Total Recall!
This film certainly knows all about what you did last summer, but unfortunately it's a derivative requel that isn't able to capitalize on the few good moments of its predecessor. This return to Southport really made us quite frustrated, and we even give it the hard R - "regrettable" - in this discussion about where it all went wrong. We're also drinking Brooklyn Brewing's Fonio Rising Pale Ale!Approximate timeline0:00-9:00 Intro9:00-16:00 Beer talk16:00-end I Know What You Did Last SummerComing soon: Red Hot '90s Action Summer: Reloaded!

SUPERMAN (2025)

We swore we were out of the game, but we couldn't pass up a chance to see DC restart their cinematic universe yet again with James Gunn's Superman! While we admit that we did have a mildly fun time with this movie, we spend the hour picking at some of the worst elements, from its overly comic book-y shtick to the muddy CGI to the messy political overtones. We're also drinking Mill Creek Brewing Co.'s Kold One kolsch!Approximate timeline0:00-10:00 Intro10:00-18:00 Beer talk18:00-end SupermanThanks for listening, write to us and let us know what you thought of the movie at bloodandblackrumpodcast@gmail.com. STRIP NUDE FOR YOUR KILLER

STRIP NUDE FOR YOUR KILLER

Finally we get back to some giallo roots with Strip Nude for Your Killer, a sleazy slasher from Andrea Bianchi that utilizes most of the common giallo tropes but adds a lot more nudity. We're talking the twists, turns, and anal jokes throughout the movie, and questioning just how long a stalking sequence involving turning on the water can go. We're also drinking Saranac's Summer Shandy.Approximate timeline0:00-10:00 Intro10:00-20:00 Beer talk20:00-end Strip Nude for Your KillerThanks for listening, please subscribe on the podcast app of your choice and leave us a nice review. UNCLE SAM

UNCLE SAM

Happy Fourth of July! We really haven't done much with this holiday, so we thought it was an appropriate time to celebrate with William Lustig's 1996 slasher Uncle Sam, a film that features tons of jingoistic American festivities while being pretty blatantly critical of US politics and war. While the film is a bit lackluster, we have a lot of fun calling out the crazy things in the movie: from a peeping tom on stilts, to a fireworks injury, to how good the smoked ribs look. We're also drinking Druthers Brewing Company's Saratoga Vibes lemon-lime pilsner!Approximate timeline0:00-11:00 Intro11:00-20:00 Beer talk20:00-end Uncle Sam

In our first Pride Month episode, we're talking about John Waters' most influential and prominent film, Pink Flamingos! Since it's a first for both of us, we talk about experiencing the wild filthy antics of the movie, the tongue-in-cheek humor and extremity, and the home video/auteur filmmaking from Waters. We're drinking the new Busch Light Lime for the ultimate trashy experience!Approximate timeline0:00-9:00 Intro9:00-15:00 Beer talk15:00-end Pink FlamingosNext up - a giallo! Thanks for listening, please subscribe on the podcast app of your choice and leave a review. It's the 50th anniversary of Jaws, and we've yet to do an official Steven Spielberg film so the timing just feels right. We're talking about Amity yokels, the iconic first scene, the excellent shark effects, and Roy Scheider and Robert Shaw both make another appearance on the show. We're also drinking... what else but Narragansett! Approximate timeline0:00-10:00 Intro10:00-20:00 Beer talk20:00-end JawsThanks for listening, please subscribe and leave a nice review. FINAL DESTINATION

While the podcast's plan was to get out to see the new Final Destination: Bloodlines installment currently in theaters, that didn't happen. So instead we thought it would still be beneficial to go back to where it all began with 2000's Final Destination. We talk about the more simplified Rube-Goldberg devices, the aggressive '90s/'00s experience, the common trope of kids living without parents, and more! We're also drinking Ommegang's OMG Series Oak-Aged Watermelon Kolsch.Aproximate timeline0:00-10:00 Intro10:00-20:00 Beer talk20:00-end Final Destination***Thanks for listening, please subscribe and review. Continuing our look into the gritty crime-addled lifestyle of 1970s NYC, we cover the neo-noir and comedic trappings of The Talking of Pelham One Two Three, which fuses the two genres into a hybrid that shouldn't work but does very well. We talk about the mammoth presence of Walter Matthau, the coolness factor of the four hijackers, and even throw out some love for Jerry Stiller's and Doris Roberts' small parts. We're also drinking Fidens Brewing Company's Triple Jasper with Peacharine triple IPA, a whopping 10%er!Approximate timeline0:00-10:00 Intro10:00-20:00 Beer talk20:00-end The Taking of Pelham One Two ThreeWe hope you enjoyed; if you did, subscribe and leave a review!
