Electric vehicles need batteries, and it takes one or two years to get a battery production plant up and running. However, something that is often forgotten is that you don't make batteries out of thin air.
Following some of Tesla CEO Elon Musk's comments regarding battery production during the quarterly Tesla conference call for shareholders last week, I decided to have two long conversations with Howard Klein and Rodney Hooper of RK Equity about the EV battery production and mining industries.
CleanTechnica's Zach Shahan and Jo Borras dive into how auto dealerships and legacy auto manufacturers are approaching and will likely navigate the EV transition.
In the first half of this episode of our CleanTech Talk podcast interview series, Michael Barnard, Chief Strategist of TFIE Strategy Inc. and CleanTechnica contributor, sits down to talk with John Cook, cognitive scientist and founder of Skeptical Science, about climate change misinformation and communication.
In this episode of “Tesla Inside Out,” we talk about David’s role getting sent down to Florida (from New York) in 2013 as a kind of Johnny Appleseed character — part of Tesla’s “asset light” program — in order to respond to consumer interest and stimulate sales in the region. Ironically, David was sharing this story with me on Johnny Appleseed Day!
In our first ever episode of a new "EV Boom" podcast interview series, Zach Shahan sits down with Roger Atkins, founder of Electric Vehicles Outlook Ltd and self-described “jack of all trades, master of none,” to discuss Roger’s insights into lithium-ion batteries and the electric vehicle industry.
Resuming our "Tesla Inside Out" series, this video picks up where David Havasi and I left off last time, chuckling about a wild DIY Tesla delivery story. David and a team of early 2012 employees built a trailer to deliver early Model S's without having any real clue what they were doing. Luckily, they got the job done. He also mentioned a funny story about a Miami delivery truck in highlighting their overall novice delivery truck awareness back in 2012.
Continuing our discussion of Tesla and David Havasi's long history at Tesla, we took up where we left off, talking about pre-Model S days at Tesla. At that time, they had a gigantic factory in Fremont with almost nothing in it other than big, wild dreams and post-apocalyptic images of Blade Runner and The Highlander.
I recently met a gentleman named David Havasi while charging our Tesla Model 3 at a ChargePoint station at a Whole Foods I frequently visit. He recognized me from CleanTechnica and I quickly learned he worked at Tesla for 7 years, until just recently. We got talking, talking, talking, and talking. I wasn't sure if he'd be camera shy to repeat some of what he told me (or more) on camera, but it turned out he very much wasn't shy — he had actually worked on Broadway before working at Tesla!
In this episode of our CleanTech Talk podcast interview series, Zach Shahan sits down with Mark Z. Jacobson, professor at Stanford University and co-founder of The Solutions Project, to discuss Mark’s work to bring together important players from science, business, culture and community behind his vision of 100% renewable energy for 100% of people.
In this episode of our CleanTech Talk podcast interview series, Chanan Bos and I sat down with Zac from the hugely popular YouTube show Now You Know. We talked almost entirely about Tesla, but also about the Now You Know show and a few other cleantech topics. You can listen to the full one-hour conversation in the embedded player below. Below that embedded SoundCloud player, I've also briefly summarized the topics we discussed — but not the many points we made. You have to really listen this time if you want to follow the discussion.
In this episode of our CleanTech Talk podcast interview series, Chanan Bos and I sat down with Galileo Russell, CEO, Founder, Director, Producer, and Host of HyperChange TV.
In this episode of our CleanTech Talk podcast interview series, Chanan Bos and I sat down with Galileo Russell, CEO, Founder, Director, Producer, and Host of HyperChange TV. Our conversation ran for 1½ hours, so I've split it into two episodes. This is part one, covering Tesla investment, Elon Musk, millennials, Rivian, NIO, China, Tesla smear campaigns, Tesla media coverage, the Tesla Fremont factory, and more. Enjoy!
For our hot new CleanTech Talk podcast interview series, I recently sat down with ARK Invest Analyst Tasha Keeney to discuss various aspects of autonomous vehicles, Tesla, Tesla, and Tesla. Tasha is focused on autonomous cars, AI, and 3D printing in her position at ARK Invest.
For our hot new CleanTech Talk podcast interview series, I recently sat down with ARK Invest Analyst Tasha Keeney to discuss various aspects of autonomous vehicles, Tesla, Tesla, and Tesla. Tasha is focused on autonomous cars and 3D printing in her position at ARK Invest. She and ARK Invest CEO Cathie Wood recently hosted Tesla CEO Elon Musk in the studio for their new podcast series, so we built off of that chat and I also brought in several key autonomy topics I'm always eager to learn more about. The conversation was approximately 45 minutes long, so to cut it down into more manageable portions, I've split it into two episodes. This is the first episode, and the second will be published tomorrow.
For our hot new CleanTech Talk podcast interview series, I recently sat down with Ross Gerber, cofounder, president, and CEO of Gerber Kawasaki Wealth and Investment Management, to discuss Tesla financials, consumer demand for Tesla vehicles, Wall Street, Tesla financing, Elon Musk, and more.

I'm sure most of what Mr Wright said was accurate but he did repeat a fallacy about batteries I've heard before that needs correcting. Battery costs not only can, but are and will continue to fall. The argument about material cost is simply wrong for a number of reasons I don't have time to go into now but can be easily seen by looking at the historic costs of batteries and the projected costs in the road maps of battery producers. Moores law is in action and has no sign of stopping in the near to medium future.
