Hey Clutterbugs! Are you struggling with ruminating thoughts, mental clutter, and the constant stress of an overactive brain? In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Guy Winch, psychologist and author of Mind Over Grind, to tackle the mental overload that keeps us from relaxing, sleeping, and enjoying life. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by work, your to-do list, or even the clutter in your home, this conversation will change the way you approach your daily stress.
Dr. Winch shares practical strategies to stop overthinking, set boundaries around work and home life, and create moments of true relaxation. We talk about how to quiet the mental chatter, why ruminating thoughts are so harmful, and how to use his genius "triple dip" technique to maximize joy from downtime—whether it’s a vacation, a weekend morning, or just a few hours to yourself. Plus, I share my own struggles with stress, sleep deprivation, and the constant feeling of being behind, and how I’m learning to give myself permission to pause, even if I had a really tough time figuring out how to do that last week as I last minute panicked (you’ll hear all about it).
If you’re ready to declutter your mind, stop overthinking, and finally find some peace, this episode is for you. Hit play, grab a trash bag, and tackle a small task while you listen. Let’s do it together—because less clutter (in your home or your head) means less stress, less work, and more joy.

Hey Clutterbug! Still exhausted even after self-care? That's because it's a scam! If you're feeling frustrated, tired, lonely, and in over your head with housework, I've got you. We’ve all heard: “Put your own oxygen mask on first.” In an emergency, yes—absolutely. But when that metaphor becomes your whole approach to life, it can quietly teach you that survival is a solo sport.
If you’re overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and trying to do everything alone, this conversation will help you build healthier boundaries and stronger support systems—without guilt.
Today we’re unpacking the two extremes that leave so many of us burnt out and lonely: 1. giving until you’re empty, and 2. protecting your peace so hard you end up isolated.
The middle ground is interdependence: a place where care is shared over time—without keeping score and without one person carrying the whole load. We’ll talk about the four real-life relational skills this takes, the ones no one teaches us.
Plus, two practical tools to help you build towards balance:
1) Chris Guillebeau’s “8th day of the week” exercise
2) The 3-3-3 method
If you’ve been thinking: “Why am I STILL tired?” this episode is for you.

Hey Clutterbugs! Decluttering, overconsumption, and dopamine: why getting stuff for free, thrifting, dumpster diving, yard sales, and “treat yourself” shopping can feel addictive. Today, we’re talking about controlling the clutter we bring into our home. If you’re stuck in the thrill of the hunt, impulse buying, or accepting hand-me-downs you don’t need, this episode breaks down the brain science and the emotional triggers behind clutter.
I’m sharing my ABCs of Clutter—the 3 ways clutter enters your home: Acquiring (free stuff), Buying (shopping for a dopamine hit), and Consenting (letting other people store things at your place). I’m talking about the real reason the hunt feels so good (anticipation dopamine vs possession dopamine), why instant gratification keeps us scrolling and spending, and how loneliness, boredom, stress, and overwhelm can push us into overconsumption. Then I’ll show you how to fight back with practical “dopamine hacks” that make decluttering easier, simple boundaries that create friction before you buy, and a 7-day Stuff Hangover Detox you can do with me; it starts with identifying the emotion that starts the scroll (or the shop), unsubscribing from shopping triggers, donating one bag of “free” items, setting a container limit, getting an earned-dopamine win by clearing a surface, doing a no-buy day, and practicing urge surfing instead of shopping. Plus: an easy decluttering task you can do while you listen for fast progress with minimal regret.
If you’ve ever thought, “But it was free!” or “I deserve a little treat,” and then felt crushed by the clutter afterward, you’re not alone, and you’re not broken. Let’s get to the root, stop the intake, and make your home feel lighter again.

Hey Clutterbugs! I fall off my routines hard, and in this episode I’m getting real about why I can’t follow through . . . and how to fix it. If you’re trying to stop procrastinating, get organized, and actually stick to habits, this conversation will change how you start your day.
I’m joined by Amy Landino (author of Good Morning, Good Life) to talk about morning routines, sleep, motivation, accountability, and follow-through, especially when you know what to do but keep renegotiating the deal with yourself. We dig into how friction derails not just your mornings but your days, and how to build tiny systems that make success inevitable.
In this episode, we cover why motivation is fleeting and how to stop letting your phone (email, news, scrolling) hijack your day. And I know I talk about vision boards all the time, but what if they lead to the trick that gets you out of bed and ready for your day more excited than ever? If you’ve been feeling behind, scattered, or stuck in “I’ll start tomorrow,” press play!

Decluttering, organizing, and building habits that stick — today I’m talking with Gretchen Rubin (author of The Happiness Project and The Four Tendencies) about why clutter keeps coming back, how to finally follow through, and how to get your home under control for good. If you struggle to start, procrastinate, or can’t maintain a tidy house, this episode will change how you see your expectations, yourself, and the systems you use.
Gretchen Rubin is one of my biggest heroes. Her work changed my life when I was drowning, and in this conversation we go deep on the ideas that help you actually do the thing. Maintenance sometimes feels like the hardest part of home management, and that’s what we tackle in this episode.
Gretchen breaks down The Four Tendencies (Upholder, Questioner, Obliger, Rebel) and explains how she discovered this framework by noticing a simple pattern: the same person can do something effortlessly in one context and feel totally stuck in another. We talk about what it means to meet or resist outer expectations (deadlines, other people) vs inner expectations (the promises you make to yourself)—and why that difference matters so much when you’re trying to declutter or keep up with everyday housework.
You’ll hear why I’m an Obliger (and how outer accountability helped me grow my business), how to “speak someone’s language” instead of trying to force your system onto them, and why Rebels often feel trapped by routines—even the ones they choose. We also dig into something I’m obsessed with right now: the perfectionism/procrastination loop that keeps people stuck, and my approach to breaking through the roadblock so you can finally get momentum.
We cover Obliger Rebellion—that moment when you’ve been giving and giving… and suddenly you go nuclear. If you’ve ever snapped, quit, cut someone off, or hit a breaking point that felt like it came out of nowhere, Gretchen’s explanation will make you feel seen (and give you a better way forward).
If you’ve ever thought, “I know what to do . . . I just can’t make myself do it,” this is the episode you’ve been waiting for.

Hey Clutterbugs! Today, I’m breaking down how your clutter is HELPING you. It's why clutter keeps coming back and why you feel stuck organizing (on top of ADHD, burnout, perfectionism, and overwhelm). If you’ve tried every organizing system and still can’t keep up, this episode will help you understand what your clutter is doing for you (other than making you feel bad about yourself). In this episode, I’m diving into teleology (don’t worry, you can forget the word after, and I can’t pronounce it either), which is just a fancy way of asking: What purpose is this mess serving right now? Because clutter isn’t random, sometimes it’s protecting you from decisions, emotions, conflict, perfectionism, or even visibility.I’ll walk you through the seven most common “jobs” clutter does (like decision freezing and identity preservation), then we’ll do a quick exercise to uncover what your own clutter is helping you with. Finally, I’ll give you practical replacement strategies, and one 10-minute action you can do in the next 24 hours to create real momentum. If you’re ready to stop the shame spiral and start using strategies that match your brain, let’s go!

Hey Clutterbugs! Today, I’ll help you declutter, clear your kitchen counters, and build simple home organization systems that actually stay tidy. You’re not messy, you just organize differently! Together, we’ll find the system that fits your brain: I’ll show you how to read your clutter as feedback, and your life will change.
In this episode, we’re getting super practical: we’re going to work backwards from your clutter to figure out why your house keeps getting messy, and what to change so it finally feels easier to maintain.
We’ll talk about:
- Why organization is not one-size-fits-all (and why “traditional” systems fail so many of us)
- How to read the mess as feedback (not judgment) and “debug” your home
- Building systems for your worst-day self, not your Pinterest best day
- And the three biggest breakdowns that keep homes messy

Hey Clutterbugs! Let’s stop making piles and use tiny 1% changes to organize our homes without overwhelm.
In this podcast, we’re using Japanese organizing ideas (Kaizen, 5S, Wabi-Sabi, “Mottainai”) to declutter, build simple systems, and keep the house tidy longer. And we’re doing this together (not in a “make 47 piles and cry about it for 60 days” way). This is a mini‑challenge episode where you make tiny micro improvements while you listen . . . and end the podcast feeling weirdly proud of yourself. We’re talking:Kaizen: small steps that actually add up (especially for ADHD brains)Why pulling everything out is a trap (and what to do instead)The “don’t go on Amazon for bins” rule (you know who you are)The 5S system (sort, set in order, shine, standardize, sustain) — Toyota vibes, but for your houseMottainai (“what a waste”): the guilt-free decluttering mindset shiftWabi-Sabi organizing: good‑enough systems that are easy to maintainLet’s get to it!

Hey Clutterbugs! People pleasing, mental load, and mom burnout are a direct route to clutter, resentment, and overwhelm. If you feel like you do everything (cleaning, chores, meals, schedules, emotional labor), I’m going to show you how to stop over-functioning so your kids and partner finally step up.Today, I’m talking with JoAnn Crohn (No Guilt Mom) about boundaries, emotional regulation, and why “it’s easier if I do it myself” is a little lie we tell ourselves.I also break down what people-pleasing looks like inside a home (rescuing, perfectionism, avoiding “nagging”), what it leads to, and how to build household systems that don’t depend on me, or you, doing everything. In this episode, you’ll learn:
- How to spot people-pleasing at home (and why it creates clutter + burnout)- How to reduce the mental load and stop being the household manager- What boundaries actually sound like with kids and your spouse (and what to do when they push back)- Why letting your family struggle a little builds competence and confidence- JoAnn’s Lotus Framework + “mind-body-unicorn time” (so you have a life outside the house)- How to create home systems everyone can follow, not just you

Hey Clutterbugs! Decluttering after death, estate clean out reality, and how to deal with inherited clutter . . . today I’m sharing what it was really like to clear out my grandmother’s condo. But this matters before you find yourself in the situation I did too: the same “what’s important vs what’s just stuff?” problem is why our homes get cluttered, our decision fatigue skyrockets, and letting go feels impossible.
Two years after my grandma passed, we did the final clear-out, and the shocking part was this: we didn’t know what mattered because we didn’t know the stories. Everything just looked like “stuff,” and it completely paralyzed us.
I’m also joined by Nick Fox, the creator behind “millennial inheritance” videos where people share the wild things families are left to triage after a loved one passes.
These are important conversations to have, and I’m hoping this podcast will give you a roadmap for doing so.
We talk about:- Why estate cleanouts can take months (or years)- Grief + decision fatigue + guilt (and how to break the freeze)- The difference between value and meaning (hello, my chipped mug moment)- Legacy Lists (Matt Paxton’s idea): 5 items + the story behind them- Conversations to have now so your family isn’t left guessing later

Decluttering, home organization, and clutter psychology—organizing expert (and MY HERO!) Peter Walsh (Clean Sweep, Space Invaders) joins me to talk about why clutter isn’t about the stuff and how overconsumption keeps our homes overwhelmed. If you’re stuck in perfectionism, struggling with the mental load, or feeling guilt about waste and donations, this episode will help you declutter with clarity and confidence. AND I tried to only fan girl a little bit!Peter shares what he’s learned after 20+ years of helping people and opening over 10,000 boxes of clutter on Space Invaders, including why real change comes from addressing the story behind the stuff—not buying better organizing products. We discuss:
The link between clutter and consumption/coveting
Why decluttering isn’t an event—it’s a mindset and process
The key question: What do I want from my life, and what do I want from this room?
Practical starting points (5 items a day, trash bag tango, reverse coat hanger trick)
Storage solutions vs the reality of space limits
How to avoid rushing people through change (intention vs impact)

Hey Clutterbugs! Decluttering your home, reducing the mental load, and stopping fights about housework starts with better home organization systems and clearer communication. In today’s episode, I’m sharing practical decluttering tips, family organizing systems, and relationship communication tools to reduce resentment, so that you don’t need a “perfect” house, just one that supports you.
Ever thought, “Why am I the only one who notices the mess?” This episode is for you. I’m breaking down the truth nobody says out loud: your home setup is often half the problem, and the other half is the way we talk about chores, clutter, and what we actually need underneath the tasks.
I’m borrowing ideas from the Gottman Method (think “bids for connection” and why it’s never really about the dishes) and applying them to your home so you can reduce conflict, lower stress, and feel like a team again. We’ll do a quick “resentment brain dump,” figure out what’s a system problem vs a communication problem, and build simple, realistic solutions that work for your whole family.

Hey Clutterbugs! Today, I’m speaking with Joshua Becker (Becoming Minimalist) about minimalism vs decluttering, the mental load of stuff, and how owning less can help you love more and make an impact in the world, while reducing overwhelm and creating a simpler home (all without chasing a minimalist aesthetic).Joshua shares the moment minimalism “clicked” for him: cleaning out the garage while his five-year-old son asked him to play—and realizing possessions weren’t just neutral . . . they were actively stealing his time, energy, and joy. We dig into the philosophy behind minimalism (hint: it’s not about a certain number of plates), the Becker Method for decluttering with momentum, and what to do when you’re stuck in guilt about donating, recycling, or throwing things away.We also talk about the “just-in-case” mindset, why keeping trash in your house doesn’t save it from the landfill, and the categories almost everyone has too much of—hello duplicates and clothes! Plus, Joshua opens up about his new book Uncluttered Faith, the spiritual benefits of owning less, and what it looks like when decluttering frees you up to help others for real.

Hey Clutterbugs! Today, Sabrina Soto and I are chatting decluttering, interior design tips, and intentional living hacks to create a home you’re proud of, without perfectionism, overwhelm, or a massive budget.Let’s make your home feel like a sanctuary, boost your self-esteem, and design a life that actually supports your nervous system. Sabrina’s origin story is WILD (yes, it starts with a burrito and ends with her finding an HGTV job on Craigslist at 4am), and it turns into the best reminder: you don’t have to be ready or perfect—you just have to start. We get into the real connection between your home and your life: how clutter drags your energy down, why “a clean home” isn’t vanity (it’s self-worth), and how small changes, like creating simple “vignettes,” setting up visual cue zones (smoothie bar, coffee bar, cleaning caddy, workout corner), and refreshing a space with a pillow or lamp—can change how you feel every single day.
If you’ve ever felt embarrassed to have people over, overwhelmed by your kitchen, or like your bedroom is anything but a sanctuary, this one is for you.

Hey Clutterbugs! Decluttering motivation, cleaning tips, and how to stop perfectionism paralysis—today I’m breaking down why you feel stuck in clutter and how to finally get your home organized. If you’re overwhelmed by mess, doom piles/doom boxes, clutter anxiety, or you keep procrastinating because it won’t be “perfect,” this episode will help you start (and finish) in just 5 minutes.Today we’re talking about radical exposure to “good enough” (aka doing it a little messy on purpose) so you can break the perfectionism cycle and actually make progress. Because “later, when I can do it right” is how clutter wins.I’m also sharing what happened during our Take Your House Back all-day declutter live… including the moment I totally hit a wall emotionally. But the real point of this episode isn’t the tears, it’s the breakthrough: the reason so many of us stay stuck isn’t laziness, it’s the fear of doing it wrong.

Hey Clutterbugs! Sleep tips, insomnia help, and circadian rhythm science, oh my! Today, we’re breaking down why you can’t sleep and how to fix your schedule for better energy and a better life. I’m talking to Dr. Michael Breus, aka The Sleep Doctor, about chronotypes (early bird vs night owls…and a sneaky anxious chronotype that just might be mine), melatonin and supplement stacks, and practical tips that actually work.If you’ve been laying awake, waking up at 3am, or feeling tired no matter how long you sleep, this one could change your life.

Hey Clutterbugs! Today, I’m talking about burnout, ADHD overwhelm, and real-life productivity in this episode, and I’m giving you a permission slip, signed by my wonderful guest, to stop treating your worth like it’s tied to your to-do list.
I’m joined by the hilarious, wildly honest Anna Pryz (aka the “it’s called manifesting/vacuum lady”), and we get into what it looks like to choose boundaries and opt out of pressure, all while moving your life forward. We talk about the all-or-nothing mindset and why “do it shi**y” can be the most powerful mental health tool for perfectionists. If you’re overwhelmed, burnt out, living in chaos, or trying to get organized with ADHD (without becoming a minimalist or following directions like a robot), this one will feel like a deep exhale.

Hey Clutterbugs! It’s time for some decluttering motivation, organizing tips, and a step-by-step January roadmap so you can stop feeling behind and start taking action fast.
Happy New Year, friends. Ready for a little tough love Cas (with love)? We’re not doing the “new year, new you” pressure spiral, and we are not making a giant, unrealistic plan for all of 2026. We’re using January as a container and focusing on one small doable decision that you can repeat—because that’s how real change sticks.
I’m also introducing what I’m calling the Boss Rule. If you have to negotiate with an item—debate it, justify it, imagine a future version of you who finally fixes it, paints it, returns it, uses it, or finds the “perfect system”—that item is breaking the rule. You’re the CEO of your home. You don’t negotiate with clutter.

I enjoy the show as a bachelor trying to better organize and declutter, but don't tell people to throw away old CDs. Some people enjoy those as a cheap affordable collecting hobby, Drop them off at your local thrift store instead.
Oh dear Cas, I saw you on GO HQ and wondered what 's going on. To hurry myself taking a shower I put your podcast on. I rently started from PodCas1, now to make sure you'd still be talking as I'd get out. I'm so sorry you've overdone up to the point of getting blind. (I've been there once or twice too) now I've started decluttering seriously after 28 years again (yes I'm a bee-type with ofcourse adhd) I stopped sleeping enough, only getting 5 hrs, watching you & others and getting stuff done too
I love you Cass. You calm me and you motivate me. You are the BEST
Cass you're such an inspiration. I can't believe the fire fighter training you've put yourself through. You're really making a difference to many lives 💓💓💓💓
Two of my favorite podcasters coming together. This was the best. I love you both!!
I was able to go through a box of books separate ones that I do not want ones that I'm not sure if I want and ones that I want to keep got rid of one of those big Rubbermaid tubs thank you for helping me
Since retiring I no longer have time stress. It is incredible. I found I need some structure. I am trying to do something everyday. I always felt guilty for taking time to myself.I grew up in a chaotic home and was asked daily"What did you do today to help?" I no longer feel like I have to earn a rest. yah to retirement !
Thank you so much for sharing, I believe it may inpact my family more than you can know❤️

I can see how a clean house helps you think about things everywhere outside in life in a happy positive way...like you feel when your in a hotel room..its a clean slate sort of new start feeling...the decisions are fun..where to go ..what to eat..or watch... I'm curious about what you did with all the extra time available to you when you skipped the never ending monotony of cleaning..maybe your free thinking creative side is loosing small battles every day ..till it gives in and becomes complicit silent and tidy
I love your podcasts.
one way to reduce temptation to buy inexpensive stuff online is to think about the labor practices that were likely used to produce something to cheaply. very sad.
Hi Cas. I love ur work. When do u say a project has turned into a routine and can move to the next project? I tend to start multiple projects at the same time and then drop them on the way to becoming a routine
I love it a lot🤩
I love it🤩 one of your best episodes💜
I LOVE YOU Cass! You always hit the nail on the head. I was listening to your ADHD episode a while ago and completely related to you in so many ways! Especially the staying up all night because it's peaceful and we can do whatever we want. It's my "me" time! I don't have young kids anymore, I have 4 awesome grown sons, but I love the fact that my phone won't ring or ping at me, and it's my time! I am just learning about decluttering and another thing I have in common with you is I keep spending all my money! I can easily spend 3 or 4 hours at Walmart, just looking at their stuff and buying what I "need." Now I have shelves-full of duplicate brand new things. Notebooks, glass dishes, pens (don't get me started on them!), so many more items! it's embarrassing. I have a goal, which I reach, each week to take 2 bags or boxes to donations on Saturday. It's going great! Gosh, I could keep going....but just want you to know you are at the top of my list for listening to or watching on
First 12 minutes are silence? Anyone else or just me?
I love this collaboration! Both women have helped me so much along my journey! ❤️
Great podcast! I love this perspective, it hit home for me.
