In 1980 I started hitting the San Francisco Bay Area rock clubs nightly. The Stone , Old Waldorf , Mabuhay Gardens, Uncle Charlie’s, The Phoenix Theater , Keystone Berkeley, Cotati Cabaret. I had a huge thirst for Rock n Roll.    Of course the big bands like Van Halen ,AC/DC , Judas Priest and Ted Nugent would come through town but that was like once a year so you had to find something more out there and that something was a blossoming local rock scene and the early kings of that scene was a band called Roadrunner.  This band absolutely crushed it live and it seemed like over night they were selling out every club in the Bay. By 1985 the band was done.  I will Never forget those days and especially my guest today lead singer of Roadrunner James Hume.  I learned all of my early rock n roll lessons from this band.  I don’t think I’ve talked to James since 1985 so it was an honor to catch up with him and really hear his story.  You may not of heard of Roadrunner but I guarantee you will love the stories. From Metallica opening up for them, Dio trying to get them a record deal and the infamous band house "The Cave" Dig in my friends and hear some San Francisco Rock History.    Check out some art by James Hume in this link https://www.rebelunicorn.life/james-hume  Roadrunner's music can be heard here https://music.apple.com/us/album/teenage-warcry-ep/270227528    Join my Patreon at https://www.patreon.com/DeanDelray Enjoy tons of Bonus episodes.   My tour dates can be found here https://www.deandelray.com/tourdates    TO get tickets to see me shoot my special click here https://www.tixr.com/groups/thecaverns/events/bill-burr-with-dean-delray-112459    Thank you DDR
Today I sit down with Todd Mayo owner of one of the coolest concert venues in the world. Years ago a friend sent me a YouTube clip of The Chris Robinson Brotherhood playing at one of the most insane venues I had ever seen. It looked like the band was playing on Mars. I had never seen this venue so I dug in and did some research and found out it was called The Caverns, located in Grundy County Tennessee. This venue was created by my guest Todd Mayo and it quickly became a destination venue. Everyone has played there including Chris Stapleton, Lucinda Williams, Billy Strings and more. There are a handful of absolute magical venues in the world, Red Rocks, The Gorge, Hollywood Bowl, The Sphere and now The Caverns. Todd Sits down with me for an In-Depth conversation on exactly how this place came to be. Not only has Todd created one of the coolest venues in the world he also created an Emmy Award winning TV show on PBS called The Cavern Sessions. Todd has a book coming out in Sept called Caveman Chronicles that I can honestly say is a must read. Also a very special Announcement is at the front of this episode so do not skip the intro. Today I sit down with legendary drummer Chris Slade. Chris started out his professional career at 16 years old playing drums for Tom Jones. From there he became a founding member of Manfred Mann's Earth Band recording 8 studio albums from 1972 to 1978.  After a 1 year tour with the great David Gilmour another legend Jimmy Page called him to join the super group The Firm. Most people really know Chris from his time in AC/DC recording and touring on the smash hit record The Razors Edge. That record was loaded with hits including Thunderstuck, Moneytalks and Are You Ready. After the return of Phil Rudd, Chris moved on and played in his own group until 2015 when he was asked to return to AC/DC after Phil Rudd had legal problems. Check out Chris Slade Timeline on all streaming platforms. Hope you guys enjoy this episode and if you are a big AC/DC fan check out my interviews with all of AC/DC right here on my YouTube channel. Imagine you’re 20 years old and you’re playing drums in Santana and the band gets asked to play WOODSTOCK. Thats exactly what happened to my guest Micheal Shrieve back in 1969. Rock n Roll Hall Of Famer Michael Shrieve has had an incredible career behind the kit and his stories are amazing. I first saw him play in 1984 with the supergroup H.S.A.S. that included Neal Schon, Sammy Hagar and Kenny Aaronson. That record is so underrated and I always wondered what could of happened if they kept going.  We dive into his career including how he recorded his latest record Drums Of Compassion which is out right now on all the streaming platforms. had probably been my favorite podcast for last 5 or 6 years. Dean asks the questions that normal interviewers don't ask. since he was a musician, he knows what musicians want to hear and find out.

I feel like Stoner Witch is the customary Melvins starting point, was for me. I'm sure most would say that or Houdini.

Awesome Interview. I loved how you geeked out together over watches, Dumble App's and other artists. I always thought John Mayer wasn't given enough credit for his guitar playing and intelligence. This whole interview proved that he is a genius, an investigator with wicked talent. Thanks for this inspiring conversation. I just need to check out all the albums mentioned and listen with new ears. My mind has been blown!
