Sallie Krawcheck's book OWN IT, comes at a terrific juncture in our podcast episodes as her concepts support and build on discussions we have shared around courageous conversations, time & boundaries in earlier episodes and also some of season 1 around women's key strenghs and the value of your WHY, your purpose and owning your power.   As a financial guru, owner of Ellevest female investing platform and a vetran of wall street Sallie is also the perfect starting point for our next few episodes on money is not a dirty word. In this episode we share our favourite quotes, concepts and mindset shifts post reading this book.  It is a fun & informative conversation and lots of great ideas to discuss.  Definitely one you will extract great value from your time investment!   SHOW NOTESAction Challenge:1. This week I have convinced my wonderfully talented co-host to share some more insights into her financial background as we introduce our last pillar, finessing your finances.  We share why we have included our financial pillar and set minds at ease.  We are not financial advisors nor do we plan to be giving any direct investment advice.  Instead we want to bring awareness to the power that comes with a solid financial mindset, paired with some probing questions to help you identify when your financial literacy might need further curiosity. Simple things like do you really know where your money is, how much ROI your cash is giving you, including super, that you have enough squirreled away that you don’t need to tolerate an untenable situation - be that a manager or working environment and that you have not given your power.  To explore our behaviour around money, conscious & subconscious and to acknowledge that as women we are far less comfortable discussing finances and therefore we are not supporting each other in this super important spaceMy interview with Claire explores her background in the financial industry, some insights and observations of the financial world.  Find out how the average women responds when Claire shares she is from this world and a great discussion on how we start conversations with our friends and family around finance.  And we need to start!  We share some startling findings around Australian women’s financial literacy and some books, articles & pods to get you started. SHOW NOTES:The Barefoot Investor, Scott PapeOwn It, Sallie KrawshuckThe Broke Generation, Emma EdwardsWinging It, Emma Isaacs She’s on the Money, Victoria DevineARTICLE & REFERENCE LINKS:https://esacentral.org.au/images/PrestonWright.pdf https://melbourneinstitute.unimelb.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0009/3537441/HILDA-Statistical-report-2020.pdf https://www.nineforbrands.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Australian-Financial-Review-Media-Kit-2020.pdf https://www.lowellsun.com/2021/02/28/how-the-left-and-right-brain-affects-your-finances/ www.ellevest.com  Music created by Claire's daughter Hannah

You are the first domino.”“Don’t let small thinking cut your life down to size. Think big, aim high, act bold. And see just how big you can blow up your life.”“A different result requires doing something different.”“One of the most empowering moments of my life came when I realized that life is a question and how we live it is our answer.”“Achievers always work from a clear sense of priority.”“Long hours spent checking off a to-do list and ending the day with a full trash can and a clean desk are not virtuous and have nothing to do with success. Instead of a to-do list, you need a success list—a list that is purposefully created around extraordinary results.To-do lists tend to be long; success lists are short. One pulls you in all directions; the other aims you in a specific direction. One is a disorganized directory and the other is an organized directive. If a list isn’t built around success, then that’s not where it takes you. If your to-do list contains everything, then it’s probably taking you everywhere but where you really want to go.”“People do not decide their futures, they decide their habits and their habits decide their futures.” —F. Start with an SFD (remember it's only paper) Set yourself a timer know 10 minutes and write down everything that comes to mind - thoughts on visions, goals, things you love doing.  If you have finished in 3mins then start to use one of the models from the podcast (listed below). Once the timer stops its pen down & walk away.  That's it - just 10mins today.Next let it ruminate - allowing thoughts to flow in the shower, exercising, and getting your brain to work for you while you sleep. First thing in the morning (next day or as soon after as you can) open up your book, don't look at what you wrote, first just write down everything that comes top of mind.  Then go back and review your earlier list and start to articulate your key vision and narrow in on what is the most important goal that you really want to achieve now. Perhaps there's one for each category of your life. Perhaps there's just one big one that you just really want to work towards. If there are extra gems on the page, save them in your calendar or somewhere that you'll look back to.  Next week when we go through our what, then we'll start to really narrow down on our vision.SHOW NOTES:Simon Sinek - https://youtu.be/yNiWviKEoa8 (a short video from Simon Sinek presenting his concept around why) reminder: this is business focused but absolutely can be applied to your vision & why.  His books - Start with Why and Find your Why https://www.booktopia.com.au/start-with-why-simon-sinek/book/9780241958223.html  Carolyn Tate, The Purpose Projecthttps://www.booktopia.com.au/the-purpose-project-carolyn-g-tate/book/9780646971001.html Dominic Price of Atlassian: https://domprice.me/personal-moral-inventory/  >> Consider your life in 4 buckets - Productivity & Profit, Purpose, People, Planet and seek to first score yourself -1 to 1 on how you are tracking and then consider a vision for each area.Michelle Obama, Becoming - both in book form and also as a Netflix special https://www.netflix.com/au/title/81122487Quote from Michelle Obama in Becoming: "What I've learned is that getting back on what track? In this episode Miranda and Claire are here to convince you that conversations about money and finances are fun! How can that be, you ask.  Because having a positive mindset about all things $ is a critical element to unlocking our opportunity to live life on our own terms. We dive into some of the crazy stats about how much women are stressing about money. We chat about how wonderful it can be to embark on a learning journey to explore our own money mindsets and change them for the better. And why now is the perfect time to supercharge our collective girl power and change the money game in a way that our future selves, and the next generation of women, will love us for it.   Our action challenge this week: To dig deep into our money mindset. Write down the emotions you're feeling around money and any financial goals you've been putting off. Choose one of them to take action on. Set clear timelines on when you will get it done.  Take a least one step towards that goal in the next two weeks.  And, importantly, decide on a reward you will treat yourself to when you've achieved that money goal for yourself.Article references:Fidelity Investments, Women Financial Sentiments SurveyForbes, The Psychology of Money: What You Need To Know To Have A (Relatively) Fearless Financial LifeMarie Claire, The Gender Imbalances That Still Exist in Australia Right NowAustralian Financial Review, New Worries Drive Restless Workers To Look AroundBook References:Sallie Krawcheck, Own It, https://booktopia.kh4ffx.net/elevate-own-itGary Keller & Jay Papasan, The One Thing, The Surprisingly Simple Truth behind Extraordinary Results https://booktopia.kh4ffx.net/elevate-theonethingEmma Isaacs, Winging It link: https://booktopia.kh4ffx.net/ElevateWingingItThese are affiliate linksWe would love to hear your thoughts on this episode - check out our Instagram, LinkedIn or  Website or Email elevatewithgrace@gmail.com Music created by Claire's daughter Hannah
Welcome to part 2 of a 3 part series on time & boundaries.  In episode 3 we explored why boundaries and time management were so important and why NOW is the right time.  In this episode we dig down on our boundaries and start to consider personality traits, and why its important to communicate your boundaries - as cultural, demographic, generational and lived experience backgrounds result in others never really knowing what you need... unless you tell them. Its a great episode we look forward to you listening to this one & then in our next pod we deep dive on time management tips and tricks.ACTION CHALLENGEOur action challenge for this episode is two fold.  #1 If you didn’t get a chance to track your time for a week to understand where it really goes then this in your time, along with  energy tracking feels important particularly if you are feeling quite burned out, or drained at the end of each day. #2 Then it's time to take action - one boundary tool each week for the next few weeks until you are finding more time to work on your vision! SHOW NOTESThe Burnout Fix, Jacinta JimenezBoundaries, by Henry Cloud and John Townsendhttps://womensagenda.com.au/latest/four-in-five-australians-faced-burnout-in-2020/ https://www.fastcompany.com/90720956/who-is-responsible-for-protecting-work-life-balance-it-depends-who-you-ask Ryan Howes, blog In Therapy https://psychcentral.com/blog/how-to-figure-out-your-boundaries#6  Quoted from article: Remember that you’re not harming anyone by saying no, he said. “You haven’t become a boundary violator, just someone who is making a point of taking care of yourself.
