We're still recovering from the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest, but we made a lot of great memories in Basel! So many that we thought the city itself deserved its own episode, so here it is: all of the great places and people we saw or met in the nexus of France, Germany and Switzerland. Jeremy can't get enough breakfast panna cotta, Dimitry is healed by soup & risotto, and Oscar's eyes are one of a kind.Vote in the listener playlist survey here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf1jGtsw5UUO4anpSDesyZeMUiLoe6zlMNQZUm4ibQ3mJMQBQ/viewformThis week's companion playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4QYk7cZ6P4g8hbHiORiUXr?si=b4b659d7916d4b99 The Eurovangelists are Jeremy Bent, Oscar Montoya and Dimitry Pompée.The theme was arranged and recorded by Cody McCorry and Faye Fadem, and the logo was designed by Tom Deja.Production support for this show was provided by the Maximum Fun network. The show is edited by Jeremy Bent with audio mixing help was courtesy of Shane O’Connell.Find Eurovangelists on social media as @eurovangelists on Instagram and @eurovangelists.com on Bluesky, or send us an email at eurovangelists@gmail.com. ESC 2025 is now firmly in the history books, but who wins the coveted Euro Neuro Award for Biggest Disconnect Between Staging and Song? That's a question only the Eurovangies can answer, as the Eurovangelists award a number of songs in a wide variety of categories both serious and not. Jeremy's happy with the number of accordions this year, Dimitry does everything he can to not smash the Albania button, and Oscar explains the dictionary definition of costume. We highly recommend you watch the Grand Final before listening to this ep; the best audio quality can be found on the Swedish broadcaster's website: https://www.svtplay.se/video/8rQdwrw/eurovision-song-contest/finalThis week's companion playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/387ByHYLiIOc75IQy1QYGT?si=574e9e6a82804be2 The Eurovangelists are Jeremy Bent, Oscar Montoya and Dimitry Pompée.The theme was arranged and recorded by Cody McCorry and Faye Fadem, and the logo was designed by Tom Deja.Production support for this show was provided by the Maximum Fun network. The show is edited by Jeremy Bent with audio mixing help was courtesy of Shane O’Connell.Find Eurovangelists on social media as @eurovangelists on Instagram and @eurovangelists.com on Bluesky, or send us an email at eurovangelists@gmail.com. We've crossed the pond and made our way to the intersection of France, Germany and Switzerland to bring you all the latest straight from the Eurovision Song Contest, and oh boy is there plenty bring you from Semi-Final 1. There were huge glow-ups, a glow-down, potential new front-runners - everything you could hope for from the "easy" Semi-Final. We are at last joined by perhaps the most illustrious guest in the American Eurovision firmament, the co-host of NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour and Eurovision fan extraordinaire Glen Weldon. We take a look at both semis and predict who will move forward and who will not, and who could take it all at the Grand Final. Jeremy joins a chant for happiness, Dimitry might get another chance to stick to Stefan Raab, Glen thinks it might be time for a sauna, and Oscar might be tempted by some frosting.Check out our song explainer post and more the week of the finals on PopHeist: https://popheist.com/eurovision-2025-song-list-guide-meaningNew bingo cards for this year's contest: https://drive.google.com/file/d/12aftMDpu6QHiKLnzN7bFgyWNfnk1vPFP/view?usp=sharingThis week's companion playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5qpokLJu4SObEYg9Wz1OIN The Eurovangelists are Jeremy Bent, Oscar Montoya and Dimitry Pompée.The theme was arranged and recorded by Cody McCorry and Faye Fadem, and the logo was designed by Tom Deja.Production support for this show was provided by the Maximum Fun network. The show is edited by Jeremy Bent with audio mixing help was courtesy of Shane O’Connell.Find Eurovangelists on social media as @eurovangelists on Instagram and @eurovangelists.com on Bluesky, or send us an email at eurovangelists@gmail.com. Last year, we shared three top ten lists, so this year, we had to share FOUR top ten lists, as we are once again joined by Dr. Ella Hubber of Let's Learn Everything on the MaximumFun network. We answer a listener postcard and dive deep on the songs that are sticking with us from 2025. Jeremy wants to run with you, Dimitry urges everyone to listen to the lyrics, Oscar has a battle for his top spot, and Ella's got a secret superpower she was born to find. We've got a returning guest this week in ESC Youtuber & TikToker Worldvishawn, but this time he's here as a songwriter of "Stormchaser," the incredible track by Icelandic artist Birgo from Söngvakeppnin 2025. We talk with the two about how they become collaborators and the months-long process of writing the song, submitting it to Iceland's national final, shooting the video and performing in Söngvakeppnin 2025. Jeremy remembers the Sporg Note, Dimitry has something nice to say about Loreen, and Oscar makes his demands of Shawn & Birgo.Birgo's Stormchaser music video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpB7yTyhyZwBirgo's performance in Söngvakeppnin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZPqPG6NmPIShawn's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@WorldvishawnThis week's companion playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3SbRNk2U3W9sZ27QHa65om The Eurovangelists are Jeremy Bent, Oscar Montoya and Dimitry Pompée.The theme was arranged and recorded by Cody McCorry and Faye Fadem, and the logo was designed by Tom Deja.Production support for this show was provided by the Maximum Fun network. The show is edited by Jeremy Bent with audio mixing help was courtesy of Shane O’Connell.Find Eurovangelists on social media as @eurovangelists on Instagram and @eurovangelists.com on Bluesky, or send us an email at eurovangelists@gmail.com. Episode 64: Total ESC Live

All of this year's official music videos are out, so the Eurovangelists have enlisted pop culture aficionado Dave Holmes (Troubled Waters, Who Killed The Video Star, MTV) to weigh in on which videos from this year's crop of entrants are Top 10, and which videos are not gonna see much air time. We also talk about who might take it all in this year that feels more wide open than in years past. Jeremy lives for a jam session in the fairy court, Dimitry's on the warpath over Stefan Raab, Dave loves living that rock star yacht life, and Oscar's got that star quality.Dave's favorite music videos: https://youtu.be/oJL-lCzEXgI?si=WBjdXTTLLxBDKw-Rhttps://youtu.be/nTizYn3-QN0?si=M9DWaZ7Ax6QRjIWUJeremy's favorite music video: https://youtu.be/eBG7P-K-r1Y?si=pjdLdc6vUBFsKY2RDimitry's favorite music videos: https://youtu.be/sOnqjkJTMaA?si=Fl2KrStCwAoC1kMbhttps://youtu.be/pTFE8cirkdQ?si=FWsZWvK9fQip14SXOscar's favorite music video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zWlnzFXcKYA playlist of this year's official music videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sfvb761EEcM&list=PLd2EbKTi9fyXVpc47XRGyjV0RfQOlHOXtThis week's companion playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4mkeIWF4CiFfYcYEb2PMGS The Eurovangelists are Jeremy Bent, Oscar Montoya and Dimitry Pompée.The theme was arranged and recorded by Cody McCorry and Faye Fadem, and the logo was designed by Tom Deja.Production support for this show was provided by the Maximum Fun network. The show is edited by Jeremy Bent with audio mixing help was courtesy of Shane O’Connell.Find Eurovangelists on social media as @eurovangelists on Instagram and @eurovangelists.com on Bluesky, or send us an email at eurovangelists@gmail.com. Before we go to Switzerland in 2025, we've got to go back to the last time they won: 1988, in Dublin Ireland. The Eurovangelists dive into a VERY 80s ESC with special guest Danielle Radford of MaxFun's Tights and Fights, and is there ever a bounty of Irish postcards and oversized shoulder pads to enjoy. Jeremy is bored to tears by his countrymen, Dimitry sees one of his all-time faves, Oscar can't get enough of his uncles at the wedding, and Danielle is fascinated by one word: Mangup. You can't talk about Switzerland in Eurovision without going back to the very first year of the ESC: 1956. This week we're talking about the winner of that first contest, Lys Assia, and her long history with the contest with our special returning guest, Tobias Larsson of the Eurovision deep dive blog, Tobson och alla bidragen (https://allaeurovisionsbidrag.blogspot.com/). Jeremy finds The Simpsons in an unexpected place, Dimitry sees himself in the youths of 2013, Tobias breaks down the timing of horny song records in Eurovision, and Oscar just sees another Disney Princess. We've mentioned pre-parties on the show before, but what are they exactly? This week, we're joined by Eurovision fan and organizer of the MancHagen pre-party, James Penrose, who tells us everything we need to know about the history of pre-parties, how they get started, and maybe a detail or two about MancHagen. Jeremy worries over an American in Manchester, Dimitry covets a vintage cassette, James is still waiting for the mail, and Oscar experiences a week of shocking revelations.MancHagen is April 10th through the 13th, with dozens of Eurovision acts, past and present, drag artists, songwriter panels, fashion runways and more! Proceeds from the show go to support Doctors Without Borders and selected LGBT charities in the UK and elsewhere. It's the MaxFunDrive, so we had to bring back our fellow MaxFun host and first ever guest (and first ever returning guest), Dr. Ella Hubber of Let's Learn Everything! We take a listen to EIGHT internal selections from all over the continent, and once more get authentic British despair at the state of this year's entry. Jeremy wishes he was in the booth, Dimitry catches Cyprus in a lie, Ella's heard the milkshake might not just be a state of mind, and Oscar thinks we might be in the year of the breakdown. We've finally reached the end of the national final season of this year's ESC, but not without a Super Saturday sized helping of drama! We've got our takes on Croatia's Dora, San Marino's San Marino Song Contest, Portugal's Festival de Cancao and Sweden's Melodifestivalen, and not all of them turned out quite how people expected. Jeremy's ready to have his life destroyed, Dimitry longs for a little more of that schlager-y goodness, and Oscar can't stop laughing at one of this week's winners.Croatia's Dora: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqB8Kr2lB5YSan Marino's San Marino Song Contest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdeSEj1wvHEPortugal's Festival de Cancao (free login required): https://www.rtp.pt/play/p14573/festival-da-cancao-2025Sweden's Melodifestivalen with English commentary: https://www.svtplay.se/video/j16Gnw7/melodifestivalen-the-final/melodifestivalen-2025-the-final?video=visa The Eurovangelists are Jeremy Bent, Oscar Montoya and Dimitry Pompée.The theme was arranged and recorded by Cody McCorry and Faye Fadem, and the logo was designed by Tom Deja.Production support for this show was provided by the Maximum Fun network. The show is edited by Jeremy Bent with audio mixing help was courtesy of Shane O’Connell.Find Eurovangelists on social media as @eurovangelists on Instagram and @eurovangelists.com on Bluesky, or send us an email at eurovangelists@gmail.com. The national finals keep right on rolling as we discuss Serbia's Pesma za Evroviziju, Denmark's Melodi Grand Prix, and Germany's Chefsache 2025. On top of that, we take a listen to the internal selections from Australia and the Netherlands and see what we think about their chances this year. At last, a break from the incessant national finals of early February: just Armenia's Depi Evratesil and Iceland's Songvakeppnin this week, along with Azerbaijan's internal selection and revisiting Lucio Corsi from Italy, now that Olly's turned down the offer to go to the grand final. There are plenty of songs left to come, but we also wonder: what's the theme of this year's contest? Jeremy coaches male singers on finding the woman inside, Dimitry demands justice for Birgo, and Oscar has thoughts on the greatest Eurovision lewks of all time. It's a super-duper Saturday this weekend, because not only do we cover Poland's Polish Qualifications, Estonia's Eesti Laul, Norway's Melodi Grand Prix and Lithuania's Eurovizija.LT, but we also make time for the granddaddy of all song competitions, Italy's Sanremo. It's a packed weekend of competition, but it also means there's five NEW songs in the Eurovision class of 2025. Jeremy can't get enough wind machines, Dimitry loves a popcorn superhero, and Oscar wishes those Italians would just slow it down a little.Poland's Polish Qualifications: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtGbwUjZX-wEstonia's Eesti Laul (first half): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1G2I1w2wp4Norway's Melodi Grand Prix: https://tv.nrk.no/serie/melodi-grand-prix-tv/sesong/2025/episode/MUHU25000025Lithuania's Eurovizija.LT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuwGTwRV39oItaly's Sanremo: https://www.raiplay.it/programmi/festivaldisanremoAnnalisa & Giorgia covering Skyfall: https://www.raiplay.it/video/2025/02/Sanremo-2025-serata-cover-Giorgia-con-Annalisa-cantano-Skyfall-d6040d80-f015-48f2-86c5-8398adcdbf2f.htmlThis week's companion playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6RWTv5UzjftB5amkR7I1R2?si=k_KLNdDSTEiEoND9uO9whQ The Eurovangelists are Jeremy Bent, Oscar Montoya and Dimitry Pompée.The theme was arranged and recorded by Cody McCorry and Faye Fadem, and the logo was designed by Tom Deja.Production support for this show was provided by the Maximum Fun network. The show is edited by Jeremy Bent with audio mixing help was courtesy of Shane O’Connell.Find Eurovangelists on social media as @eurovangelists on Instagram and @eurovangelists.com on Bluesky, or send us an email at eurovangelists@gmail.com.
