(3:30) He sees benefits through managing food addiction with streaks. (7:00) They discuss overdoing exercise, with no rest. Some people have a fear of not getting back into it if they miss a day. Dr Nadir has a general rule that streaks can be beneficial as long as its not at the detriment of something else. Vinnie asks Nadir's opinion about Allulose & GLP-1 agonists. (13:00) Naidir has a lot of clinical experience, so he sees things on a day-to-day basis. Yes, there are benefits for some people, but there are a lot of downsides, too. Vinnie challenges some aspects of using a GLP-1. (24:00) Nadir agrees that it’s only effective if a person does low-carb and intermittent fasting, (which is something Vinnie recommends without having to use the drug anyway.) (28:00) Additional Concerns There are upsides and downsides at certain levels of autophagy. (31:00) Too long of an extended fast can affect muscles. Vinnie asks Nadir about a low-carb, high fat being effective for weight loss and other metabolic issues. (36:00) There are instances where it may not be quite as effective. Are seed oils a detriment to health? They become a part of your cell membranes and do damage. (43:00) He gives an example of how it affects the retina. One single benefit you can do is to get seed oils out of your diet. Seed oils are ubiquitous in restaurants and included in most packaged foods. Binge eating - what can people do to help themselves? (53:00)  Nadir has been looking into the pleasure centers of the brain in order to understand binge eating. Dopamine is the driver for the craving or behavior—but it doesn’t really have much to do with the pleasure. In fact, as dopamine goes up, pleasure can actually decrease. They discuss glutamine and its uses in the body. (22:30) The Glucose Ketone Index What kind of diet and supplementation can help those who may have cancer? (27:30) The Glucose Ketone Index (GKI) calculator and how it works is explained. Episode 2466 - On this Monday's show Vinnie Tortorich and Anna Vocino discuss advice from a soda company, Anna's Expo West experience, and more. [libsyn_podcast id=30504848] PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS YOU CAN WATCH ALL THE PODCAST EPISODES ON YOUTUBE - Running the Asylum After sharing thoughts about caffeine & Vinnie’s new neighbor, they discuss getting daily steps in. (3:00) They were sent an infographic poster from “CardioSmart.” (12:00) It describes how much sugar people ate 100 years ago vs now—from 2 lbs per year to over 150 lbs per year, which is 3 lbs. weekly! Anna describes other items on the poster. The poster is a general infographic about sugar, but it also tells approximately how much sugar you “should” have. The amount suggested is low, but approximately what is found in a can of soda. The poster is sponsored in part by Coca-Cola. So the underlying message appears to be, that you can lower sugar, but still have room for soda. It’s not unlike Barilla Pasta sponsoring a study that says pasta is good for you. It appears that the inmates are running the asylum. You can let food companies know you disapprove of their products simply by not buying them. Choose with your wallet. The ExpoWest Experience They explain what it is. (29:00) They talk about premade cookies you can buy at grocery store bakeries. (33:00) Anna shares her Expo West experience while running her Eat Happy Kitchen booth. (35:15) She’s been presenting to all kinds of buyers and investors who are very interested. There was a “beanless coffee” product she tried; as a result, Vinnie explains what “Postum” is. (41:00) It is a real challenge to be able to package good food and have it be shelf-stable. (47:00) Even healthy options she found still had sugars. She had some amazing interactions overall and is looking forward to what comes of it. Episode 2465 - On this Friday's show Vinnie Tortorich welcomes author and Certified Nutrition Specialist Amy Berger and they discuss getting the right advice, stalls, and more. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS   YOU CAN WATCH THIS EPISODE ON YOUTUBE - Getting the Right Advice Vinnie tries to avoid guest experts who sell programs. (2:00) He feels some of them become gimmicky to sell their program. They discuss whether their efforts to correct misinformation and encourage low-carb is getting through to the masses. (5:00) The Ketogenic diet is therapeutic for so many conditions, but snake-oil types of “influencers” and other social media platforms negatively affect the message. The negative messaging prevents people from getting accurate information. Amy and Vinnie agree that it gets discouraging, but the importance and the success stories keep them going. (11:00) They chat a bit about regenerative farming. (16:30) At what point did the information change from “eat meat” to low-fat, high-carb—like pasta? (21:00) The low-carb way of eating is good and works with how the body is meant to. (25:00) Low-carb and the ketogenic approach work in tune with the body. People who don’t understand biochemical science probably shouldn’t be in charge of making policy about health. (26:00) What bothers Amy the most is when medical practitioners who should know better are giving bad advice, or closing themselves off to accurate information. People have trouble getting the right advice. If you want the benefits of low-carb, you have to stay low-carb. (30:00) Amy emphasizes that there are variations that can be done depending on the individual; however, that doesn’t mean eating things like junk food. (32:00) Other people must stay strictly ketogenic to treat a medical condition. Adjusting the Mindset They address the idea of food restriction. (36:00) Restriction is in the eye of the beholder; when you are satisfied with real food, it doesn’t feel restricting. Amy reviews the topics of her three books. (44:00) She is working on a fourth book about thyroid health. You can find all three books in   here: (with Dr Eric Westman) ,   and Vinnie asks about supplementation and thyroid health. (48:00) She reviews what may help. Many of the symptoms of hypothyroidism can be debilitating; she knows this firsthand. Depression, even apathy, can be a serious symptom. (2:00) Vinnie mentions Robyn Dobbins who openly shares how diet has improved her mental health symptoms. People are feeding their brains improperly. (4:30) There have been decades of misinformation, so treatment has been off. Everyone deserves the right information upfront rather than having to go through multiple medications. (7:00) Georgia goes through her personal history and how she stumbled onto dietary health changes. Vinnie asks her for more details on those changes. Sweeteners have a lot of side effects. (16:00) Sugar is the only addictive substance that society sanctions for children. (20:00) It is not only addictive, it is physically damaging to the brain. (24:00) It creates oxidative stress and insulin resistance. Refined flours do the same by causing a glycogen load; as a result, your insulin is up longer. (25:00) Most people are metabolically broken, so sugars and carbs are even more harmful. If your body “needs” sugar, your body will make it. Fats and protein are essential, but carbs are not. (31:00) The FDA recommends a bunch of nonsense. And now our gut health is a topic that needs to be paid attention to. Change for the Better Vinnie knows people whose adult kids are still having issues but refuse to believe that diet can help. (38:00) Georgia always uses dietary interventions first and she has found them to be the most effective for her clients (41:00) There are certain foods the brain needs. It’s not just junk food that hurts, but also foods we’ve been told are healthy that aren’t (like whole grains). Dr. Ede's book addresses dietary therapy as a first step. (45:00) They discuss many different things that have been happening in the news are examples of declining mental health. (48:00) Bad mental health has become so common we think of it as totally normal. (50:00) Vinnie recently has heard about “safe rooms” at college—people are developmentally and emotionally less resilient. (53:00) Vinnie also worries about degenerative brain disease, CTE, and brain health. Vinnie asks how you get more N=1 cases on the books to demonstrate the advantages of diet and mental health. (3:00) You don’t need to load up on carbs. Another great use is for travel! (5:00) Gina started making her child’s lunch because of all the processed foods that the school lunches contained. (9:00) Fois gras is banned in California because of the force-feeding of geese to make their livers fatty. Yet it is somehow acceptable to have school lunches be processed foods every day, which can lead to fatty liver, among other things. When a kid is hungry at school, they will eat what is in front of them, especially if it is chemically engineered to taste good. They don't know to say "no" to them! Vending machines in school became the topic of a South Park episode—about “Prime” beverage. (16:00) The episode is inappropriate for kids, but Gina wants parents to be aware of what is out there. President Bill Clinton was able to get soda out of vending machines at school. However, companies just filled them with juice and energy drinks instead. In addition, it is difficult to find nutrients that have been studied as thoroughly as omega-3 https://www.amazon.in/Prorganiq-Capsules-1000mg-Softgels-Supplement/dp/B0BM9TSZMS . And don't forget to keep an eye on this nutrient in your diet!

I love that you covered him. MM is an underappreciated ultra guy. He has run 100 miles with ZERO caloric intake to prove it can be done as a fat adapted athlete. he is at his best in the ultra ultra world...200 + miles of trail. he inspired me to do my own caloric free Ultra. I only made it 100km. but I also came into mine on a 3 day fast. mike is a beast! and a super nice guy.

This episode is great. I've spoken to multiple people who fast and say that gum curbs their hunger. And the whole time, I'm thinking "gum makes me hungrier"

I know the recording date for this episode is from last month, but let me say this: Vinnie, though I may not be the most faithful NSNGer, I believe in the message. That is why I have shamelessly redistributed the free pdf to as many as possible, donated $25 to the doc, and now preordered the doc from iTunes, even though I'm getting my copy in 3 months. If anyone truly believes in the message, and wants the paradigm shift to happen, then they would understand the circumstances and do the same. Of all 38 podcasts I faithfully listen to, including Adam Carolla, where I discovered you, yours is the only one I have financially supported. That's how much #NSNG has impacted my life. #VinnieTortorich #FitnessConfidential
