Description
Two middle aged Aussie blokes talking about the state of vintage computers and retrogaming, both today and back when these these things were known as just "computers" and "gaming". In each episode, we welcome a guest to share their stories about what they did with computers back in the day, along with what they're doing with old computers right now. May contain slightly coarse language and unpopular opinions.

Recorded at the 2024 Canberra Vintage Computer Exhibition, Saturday 22 June 2024. Pat Breen talks about the *other* class of '77, the Japanese trinity of Sord, Hitachi and Sharp.
This is the first of a number of talks from CVCE '24, which will be uploaded to the GrumpyOzRetro podcast feed over the coming weeks.
Video of this talk is available at the K-man YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@Kman_aus
Check out the Canberra Vintage Computer Enthusiasts website for future event info: https://cbrvce.org/
A bit of a different format this time around. Craig is flying solo for the first half, and the rest of our chat with Ian Mavric (teased in the 2024 Canberra Vintage Computer Exhbition special) fills the second half.
If you're a Tandy aficionado, chances are you already know Ian quite well. If you've ever bought vintage stuff on eBay, you may have dealt with Ian without even realising it.
Ian has been at this for many years, and is a trusted figure in the Australian retro scene, built up over many years of providing quality items and service to vintage computer collectors across the country, and Tandy collectors worldwide.

The 2024 Canberra Vintage Computer Exhibition (a.k.a. VCF Down Under) is on Saturday 29 June 2024 at the Morrison Centre, Radford College, Bruce.
Tony from the GrumpyOzRetro podcast will be there, along with Australia's leading TRS-80 expert, Ian Mavric.
This is an extract from a longer conversation we had with Ian a few weeks back. The full chat will be in episode 8, which will be released when it's ready.

Stay retro.
We catch up with Johann from TheBasement, an emerging YouTuber from Tasmania who does vintage... audio, as well as computers. He's rescued and restored many items from e-waste and thrift stores over the years, and he shares some of the secrets to his success.
As it’s been while since the previous episode, there’s a bumper ARC event report. Just ignore the fact it’s about 2 months late.
Don't forget you can hit us up at grumpyozretro.com if you've got something to say, as well as the comments feed on this episode over on the OzRetrocomp YouTube channel.
Thanks for listening and stay retro.

Tony's grump is about scammers in the retro community. This grump came as the result of allegations levelled against a colourful character in the US retro scene earlier this year. Slightly old news, but these videos are still worth watching due to grifters being an ongoing problem in hobbyist communities worldwide.

Chris Arneil is an archivist with the National Film and Sound Archive in Canberra, specialising in Australian computer software. Craig recently caught up him to discuss his work, along with his own experiences with gaming.
This episode features our very first interstate field report, courtesy of Marc Falconer from Brisbane Amiga Retro (thanks Marc!), along with a belated update from ARC.
BTW the delay with this episode is all Tony's fault. He just bought a house that needs recapping and retrobriting. This will affect the release schedule of future episodes, so the next episode will be here when it's ready.

One of our favourite British-Australian YouTubers, Chris from 005 AGIMA and This Week in Retro, drops in for a chinwag. We had a lot of fun, and Chris has plenty to talk about.
Craig's Man Pad Saga continues, we weigh in on the big news surrounding Atari's latest acquisition, and thanks to a keen listener we spend some time contemplating one of the most contentious issues in retro today.
Don't forget you can hit us up at grumpyozretro.com if you've got something to say, as well as the comments feed on this episode over on the OzRetrocomp YouTube channel.

In this episode, we catch up with Randall Crook, a vintage computing enthusiast whose interest in the hobby was born from his love of electronics. He has one of the more interesting collections we’ve heard about, and he’s a brilliant storyteller. Check out his website.
There's the usual guff and grump, including Tony’s near-theft experience involving an abandoned computer in a garage, and Craig scoring the vintage computer bargain of 2023 (so far).
