Two new COVID variants are making headlines this week as cases continue to rise across the United States. The new strain known as EG.5, also known as Eris, is now the most dominant strain in the U.S., while at the same time the more contagious strain BA 2.86 is confirmed to have hit U.S. shores. Infectious diseases specialist Dr. Celine Gounder returns to the show to update us on these latest strains and tells us what to watch out for as we head into the fall. Plus, she tells Andy who should be getting boosters now and who can wait until the next round of updated boosters become available. America’s homelessness crisis is getting worse, despite the billions spent each year to fix it. Single family home prices continue to rise. In California alone, fewer than 20% of households can even qualify to buy a house. The Chinese government doesn't believe in free speech, free access to its citizens by social media platforms. Why wouldn't we be suspicious of Tik Tok and its addicting app behavior profile? Shouldn't we be suspicious of all social media platforms? Isn't Meta going all in on tech to read minds and/or alter attitudes? There should be a Manhattan project to study where it's going and how it may be misused to subvert our right to freedom of thought? Is there a reason to think we aren't prey to be monetized? Machine learning or AI are tools that may be used to subtly manipulate us personally or on a macro scale entire populations? Why are not more suspicious?!?! Pass the tinfoil!

Sponsored by CVS? How is that appropriate in this context? A for profit pharmacy that sells alcohol and tobacco products and donates millions to political campaigns. I see why they should be mentioned as part of the dangerous medical landscape in the US, but not why they should be sponsoring such a conversation. Unsubscribe.

Cubesats unfolding in orbit can provide different opportunities for customers https://dragonflyaerospace.com/ Many of the satellites are not intended for one need, but several or can adapt to the requests of a new client, remaining in orbit.

Ive listened to this a couple of times, and the Hate Crime this, Hate Crime that, if only they investigated Hate Crimes, Prof Bell, at one point i figured Christopher Walken would burst in with a juxtaposition of '''I GOTTA HAVE MORE HATE CRIME!" Perhaps we should drop those pesky Presumptions of Innocence and default all crines to allegedly Hateful Crimes. The only problems there, Of course, is thatn an alleged Hate Crime still sounds like there's a possibility, even within those circumstances of whuch every kast drop of doubt has been slighted so carefully, at a cost of so much shamful indignity that for the first time you feel that you can finnally rest as the level of assurati every last infinitesimal perception of your soulless humanity

I will say long COVID can be way more than a couple months. Perhaps because I had COVID in February 2020 and the long COVID showed up in early May. Fatigue, brain fog breathing issues and in the last 5 months Asthma and High Blood Pressure (none of which I had before COVID). Long COVID is going to be a huge problem in the future. I would love to hear a podcast on these issues. And I feel like I am one of the lucky ones.

Very awko-taco with the second half. I couldn’t tell if the analytics lady was being criticized or not, and Andy trying to play catch-up with compliments towards the end of the segment only furthered my suspicion. Maybe it was weirdly received on both sides? I don’t know. But it felt like I was sitting in on someone’s work evaluation and the feedback made me feel just uncomfortable lol. Very weird.

All great things and will be thrilled if they come to pass. CVS has wonderful concepts yet they do not accept Tricare - large, deserving segment of the population left out.
