How do you focus a distracted mind? Attention and focus come up a lot in the Kwik Brain community. In the world of dings and pings, staying on task can become increasingly difficult, especially when your to-do list is a mile long. But attention exists to help you not only survive, but to thrive—if it’s trained. To go in-depth on this topic, I’m thrilled to have Dr. Adam Gazzaley, M.D., Ph.D. on our show today. Dr. Gazzaley is the David Dolby Distinguished Professor of Neurology, Physiology, and Psychiatry at UCSF. He’s the founder of Neuroscape, host of a national PBS show, and the co-author of The Distracted Mind: Ancient Brains in a High-Tech World. It’s impossible to put all of your focus everywhere at the same time. That’s simply not how the brain works. But being able to ignore certain stimuli isn’t a process that comes naturally. You have to learn how to direct where your attention goes. If you’ve been struggling with how to concentrate, focus, and minimize distractions in your daily life, this episode is for you. ***If you’re inspired, I want to invite you to join me in my brand NEW 10-day course, specifically designed to boost your productivity. What are the essential ingredients to achieving a happy and healthy life? It’s common to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily life. But to live a truly Limitless life, you have to invest your time and resources into making sure that you aren’t simply surviving—but thriving. I’m very excited to have Dr. Robert Waldinger on our show today to talk more about this very important topic. Dr. Waldinger is a psychiatrist, professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, and directs the longest study on adult life ever conducted. He’s also co-author of the brand-new book, The Good Life: Lesson From the World’s Longest Scientific Study of Happiness. There’s a misconception that fame or money or success will inevitably lead to happiness. But what does keep you happy and healthy as you proceed through your life? Listen in, as Dr. Waldinger reveals the surprising lessons he’s learned studying happiness over the course of his career. ***If you’re inspired, I want to invite you to join me in my brand NEW 10-day course, specifically designed to boost your productivity. How do you bounce back from a mistake? We all make mistakes, but they can be difficult to accept them in the moment. No matter how impeccable you are or how perfect you want to be, the question is not whether you will eventually mess up, it’s will you own it and learn from life’s inevitable ups and downs? In today’s episode, I’m going to share three quick things you can do to put mistakes behind you. It isn’t easy accepting when you blunder. But the key is to learn from your missteps, so you can move forward, rather than denying them. It’s impossible to avoid miscalculations and slipups in life—both big and small. And the busier you are, the more likely you are to make errors. Listen in, as I give you three things you can so to bounce back from any mistake without succumbing to panic, blame, or excuses. ***If you’re inspired, I want to invite you to join me in my brand NEW 10-day course, specifically designed to boost your productivity. What are four choices you can make daily to change your brain, your body, and even your bank account? My book, Limitless, opens with a quote from a famous French philosopher that says, “Life is the C between B & D”. B is birth, D is death, and C—life—is choice. Every morning you have a chance and a choice to grow, make things better, and move in the direction to achieve everything you desire. On today’s episode, I’m going to go over four areas that you can focus on every single day to change the things you might not believe you have agency or control over. As I go through these areas, I want you commit to making a real choice by the end. There are a lot of areas in life that might feel like you don’t have influence over. But you do. You are the sum total of all the choices you’ve made in life—good, bad, or indifferent. If you’re ready to concentrate your efforts in specific, direct ways to unlock your limitless life, this episode is for you. ***If you’re inspired, I want to invite you to join me in my brand NEW 10-day course, specifically designed to boost your productivity. What are the best nutrients and foods for optimal brain health? We are a society on the go and that often means it’s difficult to find foods that are nutritious, delicious, and convenient. You already know how important it is to eat for better brain health, but how can you find foods that are easy without adding extra time to your already busy day? To dive into this topic, I’m excited to be live in the MOSH office today with actor Patrick Schwarzenegger and media icon Maria Shriver. Founded in 2021, MOSH bar is a family-run business focused on creating better brain health through food, education, research, and providing the tools for a “mindstyle” lifestyle. I believe if you can change your brain, you can change your world. While there are many variables that go into nurturing optimal brain health, the food you choose is a large piece of living a limitless life. Listen in, as Patrick and Maria talk about their favorite brain nutrients and why they’re on a mission to make eating for your brain simple and convenient. ***If you’re inspired, I want to invite you to join me in my brand NEW 10-day course, specifically designed to boost your productivity. How can you boost and unlock your multiple intelligences? There’s a common misunderstanding that there is one type of intelligence. Maybe you took a standardized test when you were in school, and that score was how you defined your IQ. But research shows that not only are there multiple types of intelligence, but it isn’t a fixed number either. I’m going to dive into this research on today’s show. Specifically, I’m going to go over Howard Gardner’s eight types of intelligences, plus a few extra, and some examples of how they might have developed or shaped your experiences of the world. I talk a lot about the importance of having a growth mindset and this is why. You can improve your intelligence, but you first have to believe it’s possible. Listen in, as I describe each of the eight types of intelligences and visualize each one to determine which type—or types—you connect with the most. ***If you’re inspired, I want to invite you to join me in my brand NEW 10-day course, specifically designed to boost your productivity. How can you enhance your child’s education to meet the unknown demands of their future? In our rapidly changing world, it can be difficult to find education that will serve your children’s needs as they grow towards adulthood. Very few of the options take into account what children might encounter once they leave school. So, how do you find resources to develop your child’s ability to learn rapidly, adapt quickly, stay curious, and excel at problem solving? I’m excited to have Katie Wells on the show today. She’s Founder of Wellness Mama, mom of six, and a best-selling author. Her background in research, journalism, and nutrition has made her a powerful ally in education empowerment. Our education system focuses too much on what to learn rather than how to learn. That means it often hinders the growth and development that will serve your child’s future best. If you’re looking for a better approach to enhance your child’s education from your home, this episode is for you. ***If you’re inspired, I want to invite you to join me in my brand NEW 10-day course, specifically designed to boost your productivity. How can you optimize your brain power in a changing world? For many people, the Covid pandemic had long-lasting effects that they’re struggling with today. You’ve likely heard of Covid brain, marked by brain fog, sleeplessness, anxiety, depression, and focus and concentration issues. These are serious issues, but one of the things that hinders recovery from long-term health issues is your ability to have an optimistic outlook. I’m excited to welcome my guest, Oz Garcia, to go in-depth on this subject today. Oz is an expert on anti-aging, longevity, and fortifying the immune system. He’s a trailblazer in nutrition and author of multiple books, including his newest, After Covid: Optimize Your Health in a Changing World. Recovery is more than simply feeling better. How can you grow your gratitude? We talk a lot about how gratitude rewires your brain, but the benefits don’t stop there. Gratitude lowers your blood pressure, helps you sleep, and even raises your self-esteem. That’s why it’s so important to nurture your gratitude, so it can grow and become abundant. I’m grateful to be here with you today, talking in-depth on this subject. I believe that what you appreciate in life, appreciates. The more you express gratitude, the more plentiful gratitude becomes. Gratitude and appreciation don’t necessarily have anything to do with what you have, but they make what you have more valuable. Listen in, as I walk you through a thought experiment to help you focus on being grateful today, so you can grow your appreciation for tomorrow. ***If you’re inspired, I want to invite you to join me in my brand NEW 10-day course, specifically designed to boost your productivity. What are the keys to long-life learning? There’s a difference between being a life-long learner and long-life learner. How you learn at thirty years old is different from how you learn at sixty years old. As you age, your brain changes, which then transforms how you look at certain topics, what you want to learn about, and why you want to learn about them. To go deeper into this topic, I’m thrilled to have Chip Conley as our special guest today. Chip is the founder and CEO of Modern Elder Academy, which focuses on the value of intergenerational collaboration in companies. His latest book, Wisdom@Work: The Making of a Modern Elder, encourages people to rethink the value of having five generations contributing to the workspace. Long-life learning is the idea your thoughts are part of a holistic, systemic process that adapts as you age. Your focus and interests shift into seeking deeper meaning in the topics and subjects you study. Society tends to focus on how long you live. Listen in, as Chip explains why he believes the focus should be on depth and how you can become a long-life learner. ***If you’re inspired, I want to invite you to join me in my brand NEW 10-day course, specifically designed to boost your productivity. Can meditation improve your intuition, performance, and relationships? When it comes to productivity and performance, meditation is a powerful tool. But the benefits of meditation extend far beyond simply getting day-to-day results. By focusing your mind for a few minutes a day, you can achieve results far beyond what you think is possible. To go deeper into this topic, I’m excited to be here with today’s guest, Vishen Lakhiani. Vishen is the founder of Mindvalley and a New York Times bestselling author of several books. Today, we’re live for his newest release, The 6 Phase Meditation Method: The Proven Technique to Supercharge Your Mind, Manifest Your Goals, and Make Magic in Minutes a Day. The mind is capable of achieving amazing results, including connecting with people and information in intuitive and impactful ways across time and space. What is a genius network and how do you build one? You’ve probably heard me say who you spend time with is who you become. That’s because your brain power doesn’t rely solely on your neurological networks, it’s influenced and shaped by your social network. Who you surround yourself with can have a direct impact on your capabilities and success. I’m excited to go deeper into this topic with our guest today, Joe Polish. Joe is the founder of Genius Network, one of the highest-level groups for entrepreneurs in the world. He’s host of multiple top-ranked podcasts, and author of several books, including his latest, What’s in It for Them?: 9 Genius Networking Principles to Get What You Want by Helping Others Get What They Want. When you connect people and ideas, you can change lives. But you don’t want to build just any network of people—you want a genius network. How do you take effective notes so that you can remember more? As technology progresses, there are more notetaking options than ever before. While studies consistently show handwritten notes have better retention and comprehension than any other method, we still get asked frequently what the best whole brain method for taking notes is. Today, I’m going to take some of these questions from the Kwik Brain Universe on notetaking and do a modified Q&A to go into more specific detail on my favorite methods. The more information you can remember, the more likely you can utilize those learnings in your daily life. Listen in, as I review several ways to level up your notetaking skills to help you learn faster and remember more. ***If you’re inspired, I want to invite you to join me in my brand NEW 10-day course, specifically designed to boost your productivity. How do you make the placebo effect work for you? We talk a lot about the power of mindset. Before you can achieve any goal, you have to believe it’s possible and change your inner self-talk to support that belief. There’s powerful science that shows that the way you choose to see the world can physically affect your mind and your body, but you can even change your business, your brand, and beyond. I’m excited to have this conversation today with our guest Erik Vance. Erik is a science journalist and an editor with The New York Times Well desk. He’s also the author of the book, Suggestible You: The Curious Science of Your Brain’s Ability to Deceive, Transform, and Heal. Research into the power of suggestibility shows that your brain relies on analyzing the past to make predictions about the future. And it takes a lot of shortcuts based on what it expects the outcome to be. Listen in, as Erik talks about how you can use the power of these expectations and beliefs to achieve extraordinary results in any area of your life. ***If you’re inspired, I want to invite you to join me in my brand NEW 10-day course, specifically designed to boost your productivity. Can physical exercise boost your brain power and focus? You’ve heard me say, as your body moves, the brain grooves. That’s because the primary reason you have a brain is to control the movement in your body. And as you move, your brain creates brain-derived neurotropic factors, which is like fertilizer for the brain. Today, I want to welcome you to do this Kwik challenge with me. I believe that when you challenge yourself in one area, you learn how to challenge yourself in other areas of your life. That’s how you build strength and mental resilience. You can make real change in your life simply by challenging yourself to do brand new things. It adds novelty to your life, which creates new brain connections and stimulates neural growth. Listen in, as I talk about some physical exercises you can do to boost your brain power and level up your focus. ***If you’re inspired, I want to invite you to join me in my brand NEW 10-day course, specifically designed to boost your productivity. And while that person is patiently waiting to be introduced, my goal is to help you gain insight, find inspiration, and offer practical instruction until you meet. What role does your microbiome take in shaping your moods, memory, and even your dreams? You already know that what you eat matters, especially for your brain matter. The mind-gut connection is so strong, I’ve often referred to it as your second brain. But this interconnectedness extends throughout your entire body and can directly impact your immune system. To have this very important conversation, I’m excited to have Dr. Jeffrey Bland on our show today. Dr. Bland is the founder of Big Bold Health—a company on a mission to transform how people think about the human immune system. He’s also the author of The Disease Delusion: Conquering the Causes of Chronic Illness for a Healthier, Longer, and Happier Life. Your body creates 80,000 new immune cells every second. By improving your microbiome, these new cells can cleanse damaged immune cells associated with inflammation leading to improved health, brain function, and sleep. How do you unlimit your fear? Fear is hardwired into your brain, and it isn’t always a bad thing. It’s meant to keep you safe, but in our modern world, stress is often misidentified in the brain as fear. This can trigger your fight, flight, or freeze response, and that can hurt your productivity, hinder your performance, and take away your peace of mind. In today’s episode, I want to talk about fear through the lens of the Limitless model. Using Mindset, Motivation, and Methods as a framework can not only help you achieve your goals, but it can help you identify what’s holding you back. No one is immune to feeling scared, and it doesn’t matter whether you’re afraid of heights or public speaking—both are very real in that moment. Fear can limit what you do, but like all limited beliefs, it’s learned. If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed or uncertain and aren’t sure how to face the fear holding you back, this episode is for you. ***If you’re inspired, I want to invite you to join me in my brand NEW 10-day course, specifically designed to boost your productivity. What is your ‘wouldn’t go back moment’, and how do you reach it? Change is not optional. It happens whether you want it to or not. But the good news is your brain is meant to change, which means your life is meant to change. Without realizing it, you’ve likely had a moment after difficulty where you realized that what you experienced gave you a new skill, perspective, or mentality that you wouldn’t give up. To have this transformative conversation with you, I’m thrilled to have Jason Feifer on our show today. He’s the editor in chief of Entrepreneur Magazine and author of the brand-new book, Build for Tomorrow: An Action Plan for Embracing Change, Adapting Fast, and Future-Proofing Your Career. Change can be difficult. Even though some people might seem to adapt more easily than others, the four phases of change are the same for everyone. And they always end with a ‘wouldn’t go back moment.’ Listen in, as Jason talks about why belief in this moment drives success and can help you identify opportunities for your future. ***If you’re inspired, I want to invite you to join me in my brand NEW 10-day course, specifically designed to boost your productivity.
