A cursory google will tell you the "mad lady haunted by ghosts" angle is entirely made up. Sarah Winchester is one of the very few real humanitarians in American history, her house was a project to give work to the large number of unemployed people that live nearby. The script even mentions all the spiritual direction is conjecture, there's no reason to think any of her actions were directed by seances. Missing the real humanity for navel gazing about a "mystery" that is entirely fictional, smh.
Amy was not Jane Greys sister….
Mary Toft musical when?
I need you to understand that this superstition is driven my the very real fact that while you MAY not contract rabies from a bite, if you do, and you are not immediately treated with vaccines, YOU WILL DIE. Full stop. So it is absolutely unsurprising that fear and panic have followed it. It just...kills you. in a horrific way. Dogs are the most common domestic we work closely with and so are a significant vector, and have been for millenia. It sucks that spitz breeds were targeted because they
oh, Aaron. thank you. I'm queer in the USA, and while marriage is legal for queer folks now, it'll probably come under attack. and I still can't marry without gutting my disability benefits, so it's still out of reach despite loving one of the most wonderful people on earth. my grief is deep. I wish we might be remembered. what we have is remarkable and rare. all I can do is know that I am like so many who came before, and this grief is part of our heritage. we are not alone. never have been.
?
Idk why but for some reason I always thought the song London Bridge is Falling Down is about the Blitz. Now I have some research to do! lol
Been to the Menger. Grand good-natured slightly spooky old place with a good bar. Been to the Alamo -- you could see past the walls from our room -- and it is deeply troubled land. That place doesn't want people there. Not sorry I went, but at the same time I wish I hadn't been. I feel sorry to have disturbed it, even with my presence. Think carefully before going, and show respect.
Every time he says "necropants" I LOSE IT.
APP A LATCH A please.
Catamount is a vernacular name for any large cat, usually mountain lion but also used for lynx and bobcat. They aren't an animal on their own. Florida panthers, a subspecies of mountain lion, once ranged as far north as South Carolina. It wouldn't surprise me if they lived even further north. It wouldn't surprise me, either, for them to be able to hide from us.They can be very secretive. And they certainly have a horrifying scream!
absolutely wonderful episode!
... It is not farfetched today.
"Wouldn't happen today" mate there's Pizzagate and Jan. 6. It absolutely fucking would happen today.
i enjoyed this one
there is a hot show in Vegas called "absinthe " and it is hysterical. went there last August 2023.
I always love your shows! just want to give you some love. all I see about podcast in the comments is how horrible the Podcaster seams to them. My opinion, if you don't like it don't listen! Great job and I still love the woods!!
Farfetched? Exactly what happens today!
I'm getting goose bumps. In the 80's my older brother told me that ghost story, just without a person, the scare being that no one was there except the dead dog. I hadn't thought of that in years.... Until today when it was told on a 20 year episode of "Always greener"that I happened to be watching for the first time. I'm truly freaking out over the timing
Audio quality was terrible on this episode.
