I'm listening to you on the radio right now! You're NPR famous!
this one really hurt, both as a former fat kid who was always raised to believe that my body was wrong and as a fat woman with scars from her bariatric surgery that didn't work and yes I am vitamin D deficient. thank you for being our voice and reminding people that we deserve dignity
this episode was hard. as a lifelong skinny person, this was tough. maybe listen to it in a safe space.
So grateful to Aubrey and Michael for pushing back on this publication. it can be so lonely to maintain an alternative point of view, but you help so much with your in depth analysis
I'd like Michael and Aubrey to be my Drs
Before talking about white washing African history, you should have perhaps read a book or an article about cleopatra who was a red head and Greek by blood. So take it easy, wokahontas
I believe Cleopatra was actually Greek and not Egyptian.. so.. not African
I hope you take on the new recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics. I am so worried about the ramifications of bariatric surgery in children/adolescents and the messaging this sends to young people. Love your perspective and the show ♡
and yet my primary doctor was so "proud of me" for losing that weight. I just had a check up, and had regained 7 lbs at that point, and she was telling me to watch my weight, because I was allowing it to creep up to much. 🤬
same! also, I was cold all the time, my hair began falling out, and I felt like garbage. I regained 12ish lbs, am now at the 'overweight' designation in BMI, but I am physically stronger, not getting sick as much and I started regrowth with my hair. I also have hot flashes now, which I am supposed to, to a degree, because I am menopausal due to a hysterectomy and am on HRT. I also had people telling me that I was too thin, and people who had not seen me in a couple years literally did not recognize me when I was 12 lbs lighte, to now it's a non-issue. Absolutely ridiculous, I hate the BMI. alternatively, my son who is 6'4" and weighs 195 lbs and is very very thin, is considered just at the normal range. It's ridiculous.
"weight gain is caused by being emotionally damaged" trauma caused me to lose enough weight that I was for the first time a "healthy BMI" I was not ok physically or emotionally and people kept congratulating me on making healthy changes which I was not
Whoa. I love you guys…but preventative medicine is truly important and your average PCP is not “grifty” and not making money from routine physical exams and normal testing. They are just doing their jobs and saving lives over time. Even if medicine has been wrong about obesity forever, it doesn’t mean that you should be encouraging people to not go have normal preventative healthcare. That is irresponsible and dangerous.
wow 👌
I'm in HR and I could clearly answer why this is with an employer. easy answer!! just ask someone who knows. and we don't do weight or health stuff at my work.
I followed Rachel for about a year and around the time she adopted her daughter I stopped. I kept feeling like everything she put out there was so staged and privileged and repugnantly fake. I had forgotten about her until these episodes. Great podcast, great dynamic. Thank you.
can you guys cover the newest "health" diet called Enara? it is supposedly physician supported but looks like a starvation diet.
I love how worked up Mike is about straight women and their lack of orgasms. Oh if only straight cis men would care this much.
I *am* your target audience (I love you guys!) But to correct your assessment of the drugs being banned, it's not just 'horse medication.' I'm currently using high-dose thymosin-alpha-1 peptide injections, which put my Graves and thyroid eye disease into full remission within a month. I won't be able to access this medication anymore very soon because of claims some providers and pharmacies made regarding using the peptide for COVID prophylaxis. So some of us will suffer in quality of life and in access to medication over these bans.
thank you for doing this! I'm a PA voter (with a Fetterman sticker on my car) and I just don't understand why it's controversial not to want this fraud representing me in the Senate.
I literally use this show for the large amounts of dopamine I receive from the times when Aubrey breaks out into laughter while Michael wheezes. 💕
