Description
As healthcare providers, we believe it is important to empower our patients with knowledge and treat them as if they are members of our own family. We feel it is important to work together and with other professionals to raise awareness about medical topics. This podcast is a place for everyone to learn through fascinating medical stories that are educational, informational, and entertaining. The stories told are meant to educate and not disturb. Some of the stories are very serious and deep, and others will be much lighter and informative. This information will help healthcare providers deliver excellent patient care by teaching them to first and foremost treat each patient as if they are a member of their own family, and by diving deep into medical topics and discussing the various aspects of diagnosis and treatment.
Patients, you will also learn ways to advocate for your own health, as well as signs and symptoms of various medical conditions! There really is something for everyone at Marked Medicine!
At the end of each episode, Amanda, who is a family nurse practitioner, will “phone-a-friend” and ask Dr. Brulte questions that are submitted by their listeners. The idea of Marked Medicine was born from the many times that Dr. Brulte has answered various medical questions that were asked by other healthcare providers, patients, family, and friends. Dr. Brulte is thankful for the opportunity to practice medicine, which he has done as an ER doctor for more than 25 years.

Dense breast tissue and breast cancer risk, is a yearly mammogram enough? Margie Singleton was not informed that her dense breast tissue could not be adequately screened for breast cancer with a routine mammogram. After receiving a "normal" mammogram result, she found a breast lump. Thankfully her doctor ordered an ultrasound, but she was unfortunately diagnosed with breast cancer. She is now a breast cancer survivor, but she didn’t stop with beating cancer! She worked tirelessly to have a law passed that requires a woman’s breast density to be reported on mammogram reports, and for her to be informed of the density and made aware that a mammogram alone may not be sufficient for detecting breast cancer within dense breasts. But did Margie stop there? Of course not! She is the founder of Margie’s Army Foundation where she has made it her passion to educate women about dense breast tissue and breast cancer risk. Her foundation also helps financially support women who are battling breast cancer. She joins us in this episode to share her journey in the hopes of saving lives! Guess what? Join us today as we talk with Chris Sheffield and Ethan Kramer about the work that they do to raise mental health awareness and provide resources for the youth in their community. Chris Sheffield is an excellent example of how you can begin to initiate change within your community. Following the untimely passing of a young girl in his hometown, Chris and other community members decided that it was time to take action. As a result, the Know Your Worth Collaborative was founded, and Chris is now the Chairman of the Board of Directors. Chris explains that the goal of the Know Your Worth Collaborative is to teach teens that their lives have meaning, worth, and value. You can find more information @KYWstore.com. Ethan Kramer is an outstanding example to follow if you are a teen and have ever thought about working to raise awareness amongst your fellow peers. Ethan understands that mental health awareness is very important for teenagers. And the best part? He is the founder of the initiative Today Will Be Better Apparel, and his mission is to raise money for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI Georgia). NAMI Georgia's mission is to support Georgia communities in ensuring that mental health issues are treated with the same level of attention as physical health issues. You can read more about Ethan's initiative on his website Today Will Be Better Apparel, where he will have more information about how you can purchase his newly designed t-shirt in early 2024.
