Welcome to Getting To The Truth In This Art. This week I have the pleasure of speaking with musician & president of the Baltimore Jazz Alliance Ian Rashkin.  Ian Rashkin is a bassist, composer, and software engineer, transplanted to Baltimore from California and Seattle. From screaming in a teenage punk band to a degree in classical bass at the University of Washington, Ian has played all sorts of music  from East to West coasts and as far off as Russia and Korea, but currently plays primarily jazz with trio Mike 'n' Ike and other local artists. Since 2016 Ian has served as president of the board of the Baltimore Jazz Alliance, a non-profit organization founded in 2003 to support and promote the jazz scene in the Baltimore area. This all-volunteer, member-based organization publishes a newsletter and website with a calendar of all regional jazz events, and presents programs ranging from Baltimore Jazz Fest, Jazz for Kids, and Baltimore Jazz Conference. Until Covid hit, Ian ran a very successful jazz jam session at Germano's Piattini in Little Italy, and currently hides out with a mask and gloves practicing and writing music. His piece Wood Moths, for viola, cello, bass, and dancers, will be premiered online ***If you enjoy the podcast, would you please consider leaving a short review on Apple Podcasts/iTunes? Welcome to Getting To The Truth In This Art. This week I have the pleasure of speaking with founder and chief baker Sumayyah Bilal of Codetta Bake Shop. "At Codetta Bake Shop, we aim to be Baltimore’s premier dessert provider for generations to come. We have combined 15 years of baking experience with truly quality ingredients, perfect execution, and endless creativity. This has left us with a line of products that is unmatched and ever-changing. Our menu is constantly growing and adapting to the needs of our customers and the interests and desires of our baking team. We draw inspiration from all corners of the culinary world as well from our own whimsical curiosity and love of experimentation. There is essentially no idea for a product or flavor that a customer can bring to us that we won’t try. We named our company Codetta Bake Shop because it encompasses the two greatest passions of our founder and baker-in-chief, Sumayyah Bilal, music and baking. Codetta is a musical term that means “little coda”. It is the concluding musical section that puts an exclamation point on the main piece, in the same way a stunning dessert finishes off a meal. Welcome to Getting To The Truth In This Art. This week I have the pleasure of speaking with artist Vinnie Hager.  Vinnie Hager is a Maryland-based artist and designer. From a young age his mother surrounded him with vibrant works of art adorning the walls of his childhood home. This early exposure to all kinds of art coupled with jazz influences came from his mother and worked in tandem with his father's knack for mechanical workings. This inspired him to develop his own style and in 2011 he began pursuing his own artistic vision. Vinnie is currently attending MICA, Maryland Institute College of Art, for a Bachelors Degree of General Fine Arts while also pursing his personal artistic endeavors.   ***If you enjoy the podcast, would you please consider leaving a short review on Apple Podcasts/iTunes?
