Rog and Rory discuss this week's Champions League matches, beginning with AFC Ajax, how Johann Cruyff shaped the club, the tenets of their unparalleled academy system, and generating sales from that academy system may have ruptured a connection between team and fans. Then, an exploration of the incredible story of Union Berlin, the identity forged before the fall of the Berlin wall, their unlikely survival as a club, and the even unlikelier promotion to the Bundesliga. Finally, Rog and Rory pick their favorite storylines in the Europa and Conference League matches. This podcast is presented by Paramount+. Football is a game which has often been called “the world’s most important least important thing.” However this November’s World Cup, the most-watched sporting competition on the planet, forces fans to grapple with the complexities of a tournament which has been twisted into a public relations exercise for Qatar, a country smaller than the state of Connecticut, with a shocking human rights record, that has built the tournament’s infrastructure with migrant labor practices that have been likened to modern slavery. This dilemma is at the core of World Corrupt, a six-episode collaboration from Men in Blazers Media Network and Crooked Media. Starting Oct. 8, Rog and Pod Save the World’s Tommy Vietor will join forces to explore what it means to be a fan and a responsible citizen of the world while navigating a sports landscape that is increasingly being co-opted for geo-political and corporate gain.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Have same problem as other listeners - keeps downloading back podcasts (several years worth) even after they’ve been listened too.

The reason I give it only 4 stars is this is at least the 5th time the entire back catalog of shows has been downloaded to my computer. Is there a reason this keeps happening? I've marked them played and then deleted them from the list. Other than that annoyance, really liking the show and keep up the great work fellas.
