For nearly 100 years, one family traded influence and held power in the South Carolina lowcountry until a fatal boat crash involving an allegedly intoxicated heir-apparent shed sunlight on a true crime saga like no other. Award-winning journalist Mandy Matney has been investigating the Murdaugh family since that fateful night in 2019.
The now-infamous Murdaugh family is at the center of a litany of criminal investigations into fraud, obstruction of justice, the 2021 double homicides of Paul Murdaugh and his mother Maggie, the 2015 murder of young Stephen Smith, the suicide-for-hire plot of family patriarch Alex Murdaugh (who has since been charged with Paul & Maggie’s murders) and a vast insurance scheme that preyed on the region's most vulnerable citizens.
Matney's podcast, ranked #1 globally in 2021, provides unmatched insight into the horrific deaths, botched investigations and newly-uncovered crimes that are all interconnected. Every corner of the justice system seems to be connected to this vile web of deceit, murder and corruption.
Now featuring Co-host Liz Farrell, you’ll follow along in real time from South Carolina as their exclusive sources guide listeners on a journey to expose the truth wherever it leads.

Who edited this? It is strewn with repeated lines.
Wait why would someone want you to leave this criminal alone? He didn't care enough to leave his victims alone. How can there be people out there that still support him? 🤔
good lord what an annoying episode. I thought I was listening to an investigative reporting podcast on this case. Not some feminist-promoting bullshit!
Dno why so many people are slating the woman's voice. She's a solid-research, story-breaking local journo of the highest calibre, judge her on her work. Plus sorry to say it, since so many ppl feel so passionately about it, but this is what most Americans sound like to the rest of the world and we still listen to you - when you make great content... and often when you don't!
Love the podcast. There's nothing wrong with your voice. Your research is top notch.
So what was the evidence that they found at the house that made them reopen Stephens case??
I don’t know if it’s the app or the episodes but ep 79-current I cannot get them to play
What's up with the "Doves" and the sunflowers that have been replanted?? Did he hide something out there?
Alex wants Buster to enroll because he KNOWS he will be found guilt of murder and Buster's chance of getting into any law school after that is sim to none. Not only that, but if Buster completes law school, Alex will have an inside man again.
This is absolutely shocking. WOW. No one so safe
Ego much?! Basically, anyone who cannot pronounce a word (i.e. Name) is an idiot and enjoys hearing themselves talk? Podcast/Journalism 101.
Who killed Mallory Beach? Everyone in the boat had an indirect hand in her death, but Paul Murdaugh had more of a direct cause of her death. I wouldn't really call it murder because the boat crash into the bridge was just a very tragic accident. Everyone was intoxicated. Everyone knew of Paul's history involving alcohol, to the point they had a nickname for his 'alter ego'. Others at the party offered rides because of this, but the choice to get in the boat with "Timmy" was the tragic mistake they all chose. So why does it keep you up at night? Well, probably not. It's just something people would say to keep the attention of those who are listening.
Everything really did lead up to Alex's last 5-10 minutes of cross. When the bodycam footage of the first responding officer played. My jaw dropped, and I stood up from the couch. It's like watching a 3pt shot with seconds left in the game. Alex walked right face first into Creighton's trap.
Amazing outcome for Murdaugh! May he rest in peace, in prison, for the rest of his evil life.
omg it sounds like she's about to fall asleep after smoking a bowl at the end of every sentence. Girl, take some voice control lessons before you try to host a podcast.
Believe me, I tried and I failed. The growling voice of the host is not only annoying beyond words, but makes the narration unbearable. Besides, there is no cadence in the narrative but just a monotonous and insipid reading of a emotionless script.
I hope we can figure out who was the center of it all
perfect 👌
DH sure looked desperate questioning the rebuttal witnesses
If Alex's attorneys are "the best money can buy" in SC, then SC has a serious problem. They are terrible. Moreso Dick Harpootlian than the others.
