In 1935, a young schoolteacher named Edith Maxwell went out dancing. When she came back to her family's home in Pound, Virginia, the trouble started. By the next day, her father Trigg was dead. According to his defense team, Richard Allen has made numerous incriminating statements about the Delphi murder case while incarcerated. They claim this is because of mental health concerns and have asked Judge Frances Gull to throw out the evidence. If this evidence remains, it will damage Allen's claims of innocence. Recently, attorney David Hennessy — apparently at the behest of attorneys Brad Rozzi and Andrew Baldwin — launched a crowdfunding effort to raise funds to assist in the defense of Richard Allen, the man charged with the killing of Abigail Williams and Liberty German. In this episode, we take a look at the issue of crowdfunding legal defense in general by speaking with Julienne Pasichow and Hilary Gerzhoy, two attorneys who covered this topic in an informative article for Law 360https://www.law360.com/articles/1727278/avoiding-the-ethical-pitfalls-of-crowdfunded-legal-feesIn response to The Murder Sheet's request for comment, Defense Diaries creator Bob Motta threatened to "respond in kind' to any criticism and invited himself on the program. As noted in the episode, Mr. Motta has a history of spreading falsehoods about the Delphi case and the creators of The Murder Sheet. We also discuss some of the details of the Allen fundraiser in particular, including the role of a prominent defense YouTuber. Finally we will cover the recent incident where graphic crime scene photos were shown on a YouTube channel.Send tips to murdersheet@gmail.com.The Murder Sheet is a production of Mystery Sheet LLC .See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Today, as part of our new occasional series The Fentanyl Files, we’re going to focus specifically on the legal side of things. In order to give prosecutors an extra tool to use in this crisis, the Indiana legislature passed a law making dealing resulting in death a level 1 felony. To be blunt, that means that if you sell someone fentanyl- or another drug- and that substance causes that person’s death then you can face up to a 40 year prison term. But what does this mean in practice? How are prosecutors using this law? What sort of cases are they seeing ?To find out we went to talk to Muncie to speak with Zach Craig. Zach is the Chief Deputy Prosecutor of Delaware County and currently leads the state of Indiana in getting convictions under this statute.Send tips to murdersheet@gmail.com.The Murder Sheet is a production of Mystery Sheet LLC .See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

We'll talk about the latest filings in the Delphi murders case.Send tips to murdersheet@gmail.com.The Murder Sheet is a production of Mystery Sheet LLC .------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------In-depth journalism is more important than ever in a complicated, chaotic time.  That’s why we listen to PR’s Throughline. This is a podcast that appeals to us on so many levels. As history buffs, we love their historical contextualization of important ongoing issues. As storytellers, we love the engaging way their approach and often humanize complicated issues. As news consumers who want to stay informed, we love the way they give the story behind the big stories of the day. We try to take a similar approach on The Murder Sheet, and we feel confident that our listeners would enjoy giving NPR’s Throughline a try too. We’ve been going through their entire backlog recently, listening to them as we drive to source meetings. One favorite of mine was their episode about Andrew Johnson’s impeachment. Throughline’s coverage didn’t disappoint, delving in depth into one of history’s worst US presidents and the legal significance of the first ever presidential impeachment. They also did an episode that is so pertinent to our work was about the proliferation of conspiracy theories, and how they’ve always been part of America’s DNA. That’s something we think about a lot, given the creep of misinformation and manipulation in online true crime spaces. NPR’s Throughline is a source we trust. They’re all about nuance and depth and unpacking the messiness behind outwardly simple stories. In a world when it’s getting harder and harder to know what sources to rely on for information, they’re a standout in terms of their research and thoughtful takes. Go back in time. Learn something new. Emerge more knowledgeable about today’s headlines. 5 minutes questioning the why while acting like you don’t get it, only to then finally get to the reason. Absolute garbage time filler, waste of time and shitty podcasting. This podcast was good for the first 3 or 4 episodes about the Delphi crime. Not anymore.

The "Murder Sheet" podcast is a riveting and meticulously crafted exploration of true crime stories that keeps listeners on the edge of their seats. Hosted by a team of seasoned investigative journalists and experts in the field, "Murder Sheet" delves into some of the most intriguing and lesser-known cases in the annals of true crime. https://www.owler.com/company/customfoodtrays What sets "Murder Sheet" apart is its dedication to in-depth research and analysis. I think you guys need to consider that Nick McClellands job is representing the victims in the Delphi case and that includes the family of the victims. I believe the family does not want this case televised, they have already been hurt so badly and social media played a part in that. You have to consider a big reason in Nick filing these motions is for the family of Abby and Libby, not because of his own personal wishes to not have cameras.

I was born in 79. But I do remember my whole life, as I grew up hearing bits and pieces about it. Then I find out it happened in my hometown, so it really intrigues me. I've been be the building and one thing I don't get is that, I think that in the Netflix documentary the guy and his girlfriend that they were walking down the railroad or something about a railroad. Now I can be wrong but I searched that area and even looked on Google maps and there is no railroad track in the area. I think that it was the young couple that went to the donut shop then I think they went next door to Burger Chef. The sad thing, because he will never pay and the families will never get closure. BUT I STILL BELIEVE SOMEONE OUT THERE KNOWS SOMETHING IMPORTANT. AND THATS NOT SNITCHING! I KNOW I COULDN'T GO TO MY GRAVE WITH THAT ON MY CONCIOUS. SInce it was over 40 years ago, if that person is still alive, I would highly recommend getting off your chest. Be a man for the 1st time in your life.
