listening to Briony talk about the different responses to sex made me think of my own and how its changed as I've grown older. When I was younger I was really promiscuous, I had so many one night stands, with strangers and with mates. What I always had an issue with was intimacy, relationships never lasted because I stopped being able to communicate with them after a period of time. I've pretty much given up and I've also stopped wanting to have sex at all as well, it makes me feel dirty, even thinking about it makes me feel dirty, I can't put love and sex together and I think that's really sad. It makes me so angry thats there's pretty much no help for people who actually want help to stop them from perpetrating sexual violence, if we want to reduce the amount of victims then it makes sense to reduce the amount of perpetrators and I would like to think that quite a lot of perpetrators or would be perpetrators would accept help if it was actually available.

Such a sad story! Filthy old man!! What a creep to do such things to these beautiful little babies. 😰😰😰 As for the rapist, you are a brave young woman and let’s hope he gets locked up!!

Virginia, You are so entitled and right to tell your story. I personally thank you for your incredible courage in opening up Alex’s story and your own. I am so sorry that your investigations have uncovered further abuse perpetrated on you. I am so very sorry that Alex felt so alone in her personal terror or shame, that she could not share her story as you have. I am appalled that you are getting abuse for opening up this tragic story. There are SO many of us who keep our own secrets of family sexual abuse.

I love this podcast on so many levels. I have family members and friends who have struggled with addiction to alcohol & drugs due to childhood sexual abuse and rape. This does need to be brought into the open - it happens to so many people. The court system doesn't seem to acknowledge the lifelong damage sexual assault and rape does to people. Perpetrators need more severe punishment.

You can’t blame the victims. But the adults that were around them need to take some responsibility. Burying your head in the sand doesn’t help anyone…

it's disgraceful that the grandmother knew her grand-daughters were being abused by her husband but did nothing about it.

Nan has a lot to answer for!! Harrowing Pod Cast Why do these men keep getting away with this completely entitled and misogynistic behavior. When I was a teenager I didn't know a girl who hadn't been sexually abused. I seems to be part of our culture 😔
