Here's an easy shortcut to stay math-sharp: whenever you're buying anything, try to mentally calculate the change before completing the checkout process. You can do this even if you're paying with a card ($17.27, if I was paying with a $20 the change would be ... $2.73). Been doing this for years, it quickly becomes second nature.

Holy crap, you need to check out some real fashion historians. I enjoy the podcast and love the Office, but some of your "facts" are just wrong and have been debunked. I won't get into the pocket topic but the corset argument is old and wrong. Why is all of Hollywood ignorant about corsets and stays?!?! Woman of all classes wore corsets and they were custom made and fitted to the person wearing them. Tight lacing was frowned upon and only some women did it. Also, there was a revaluation where women started wearing pants and many decided that they preferred dresses. It just went back and forth. I will go into the topic of pockets just a bit. Pockets were not sewn in; they were worn on a string around the waist, beneath the main article of clothing which had slits in the sides for easy access.
