Whenever I (or one of my guests) introduces the concept of male initiation, it’s met with skepticism, at best, and a level of immense disdain and vitriol, at worst. But why is it that men struggle so much with the concept of initiation, that is to say that a man must learn from other men what it means to be a man and be held accountable to maintain his moral duty to protect, provide, and preside? My guest today, Jake Hamilton, makes the case for male initiation drawing on ancient initiations in some of the most remote locations on the planet. We talk about how to harness a man’s sexual desire towards productive outcomes, what the lowest form of a man’s identity is, where the patriarchy falls short, integrating your “shadow” (something Jung unpacks deeply), the difference between working toward the greater good and the common good, and how a man answers his own internal desire to be respected and desired.  SHOW HIGHLIGHTS (00:00) Episode Intro (04:00) The Crisis of Masculinity Today (17:21) Initiating Boys Into Manhood Through Presence (23:00) Navigating Masculinity and Sexuality in Society (34:51) Unpacking Personal Trauma and Behavior (41:11) Reclaiming Self-Worth and Value (49:05) The Power of Self-Discovery and Legacy (01:01:43) Embracing the Lover Archetype Battle Planners: Pick yours up today! A masculinity podcast that doesn't suck ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This show is well-worth listening for everyone from happily married dudes like me, to divorcees, to recovering "nice guys." Fun-to-listen-to AMA episodes with Kipp! I appreciate the Ryan doesn't shy away from getting political. Awesome tips on how to meet women at the gym in the David Messen interview (#1057). And, I love that it's not interrupted with A LOT of mid-roll ads!
