You know it’s the offseason when we have ideas like this. It’s Friday, they’re the Flyers, so let’s F around! Charlie, Kelly & Bill take a look at Philadelphia players whose names start with the letter F- Joel Farabee, Morgan Frost, and Tyson Foerster. Plus, a new Mailbag Question of the Day and an update on the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
With all the talk of the Ivan Fedotov contract and what it might say about Danny Briere as general manager, why not take a look at every move he’s made since he replaced Chuck Fletcher as the one in charge of personnel? Charlie & Bill look at all the trades, signings and draft picks Danny Briere has made over the last 13 months in an effort to get a big picture look at Mr. Playoffs as the head of the front office. The NHL Draft is still weeks away, but with the NFL Draft coming up on Thursday, let’s get in on the fun with the Flyers! Plus, the mailbag question of the day: the potential to land Leon Draisaitl or any of next year’s (2025) class of free agents. And, of course, some more John Tortorella talk because it wouldn’t be a Flyers show without it! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
The Flyers are never done. On Tuesday, Danny Briere re-signed the most-talked-about the 27-year-old backup goaltender in the league, Ivan Fedotov for what seems like a boatload of cash. Charlie, Kelly & Bill debate the contract, as well as discuss the players who most likely won’t be with the team in 2024-25, like Cam Atkinson and Ryan Johansen. Learn more about your ad choices. We’re still a Philadelphia Flyers show, first and foremost. But we can’t ignore the beginning of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. We got a 7-6 game between the Jets and Avalanche. Matt Rempe-Mania is running wild in New York! Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but the Leafs are trailing the Bruins! Charlie and Bill also look back at a few topics from exit interviews, like the status of Cam Atkinson, Alex Bump becoming a “high end” prospect, and more! Learn more about your ad choices. On Friday, the Philadelphia Flyers officially closed the book on the 2023-24 season with media availability for head coach John Tortorella and General Manager Danny Briere. Bill & Charlie share their reactions to the day’s news, including the fact that Rocky Thompson will be returning to coach the power play despite historically bad results in his first 2 seasons, and that Ivan Fedotov and Sam Ersson will be the goalie tandem next year, in all likelihood. After a surprising 2023-24 season that saw the Philadelphia Flyers miss the postseason in Game 82, the question now is, what’s next? What’s next in the rebuilding plan for the front office, and John Tortorella. What direction should GM Danny Briere take this summer- stay the course? Make more subtractions? Or accelerate the rebuild? Charlie, Bill & Kelly discuss some potential offseason moves, as well as discuss Jeff Carter’s career and the Arizona Coyotes’ final game. Learn more about your ad choices. The Flyers season ended on Tuesday night when the Montreal Canadiens iced the puck with 7 seconds left, allowing Shayne Gostisbehere’s Detroit Red Wings to tie up their game, sending it to overtime and ending Philly’s chances of making the postseason. Losing to Washington was just adding insult to injury for a team that spent nearly 4 months in a playoff spot. Charlie, Kelly & Bill take a look back at the last few nights of the Flyers season, the 8-game losing streak, as well as some of the brighter spots (Sam Ersson’s bounce back, Tyson Foerster’s development) before turning the page on 2023-24. So close, yet so far. The Philadelphia Flyers needed the Detroit Red Wings to lose in regulation. Yet, with 3 seconds left in regulation, old friend Shayne Gostisbehere set up David Perron to tie the game 4-4 and send it to OT, effectively ending the Flyers' chances at a playoff berth. Erik Johnson scored the Flyers’ lone goal as they fell to the Washington Capitals, 2-1. Bill, JP, and Charlie break down the action and discuss the beginning of many offseason questions. The Philadelphia Flyers have a must-win game against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday, and everyone seems to be eagerly anticipating both the possibility of making the Stanley Cup Playoffs, as well as Danny Briere’s second offseason as general manager. Bill & Charlie open up the mailbag to find out what Flyers fans are most concerned about ahead of Game 82 of the 2023-24 regular season. Learn more about your ad choices. The Philadelphia Flyers still need a lot of help to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but at least for tonight, their effort against the New Jersey Devils keeps the dream alive for another day. Travis Konecny scored the game's only point with a short-handed goal, and Sam Ersson posted another strong performance, continuing to bounce back from his struggles that began in mid-February. Charlie, Bill & JP break down the action, and look at the standings ahead of Tuesday’s regular season finale. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
The Philadelphia Flyers simply make no sense. After losing eight straight, most of which to lottery teams, many fans turned their own attention to the future. But amid questions about the team’s effort in the last few weeks, Philly turned in one of its best recent performances to defeat the Presidents Trophy-leading New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night. Bill, Kelly & Charlie break down the action, including bounce back performances by Travis Konecny and Sam Ersson, and take a look at the still-relevant playoff standings. Here we go again. No matter the coach- Peter Laviolette, Craig Berube, Dave Hakstol, Alain Vigneault, or now John Tortorella, we’re having this conversation again. Have the Philadelphia Flyers’ players tuned out their head coach? Should Torts be behind the bench for year 3? Are veteran leaders like Sean Couturier, Travis Konecny, Scott Laughton and Travis Sanheim to blame? Charlie, Bill and Kelly open up the mailbag to try to answer questions straight from Flyers fans regarding this epic collapse and the future of the rebuild. Learn more about your ad choices. The Philadelphia Flyers losing streak has reached 8 following an ass-kicking at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens. Trailing 1-0 after the first and not looking too bad in the process, Philly surrendered 5 goals in the second period, including the final 2/3 of Juraj Slafkovsky’s first career hat trick. Sam Ersson wasn’t bad to start and then was left completely hung out to dry before being pulled in favor of Ivan Fedotov after Montreal’s 5th goal and the Habs didn’t let up, netting one on Fedotov before the end of the middle frame. What will happen in the 3rd? Does it matter? Will this once promising season end on an 11-game losing streak? Charlie, Bill & JP break down the action as the postseason slips further away. The sky is falling! The Philadelphia Flyers have now lost seven straight games, after being swept on Friday and Saturday back-to-backs by the Buffalo Sabres and Columbus Blue Jackets. Goaltending, scoring, culture and the plan itself have all come under fire during this collapse, and now Bill & Charlie are back together on this Monday live show to break it all down. What is going on with the Philadelphia Flyers? After Sam Ersson returned to action after a few days of rest, the Philadelphia Flyers needed to head into Columbus with a must-win attitude in their last back-to-back of the season. The Blue Jackets entered the game without ten players and starting minor league goalie Jett Greaves in goal. But after falling behind 2-0 in the first period, and Damon Severson netting his second of the night in the second period, the Flyers sure looked more like a rebuilding team than a playoff team. Olle Lycksell and Adam Ginning netted their first NHL goals late in the game, but that wasn't enough as the Blue Jackets ran away with the victory, 6-2. JP, Charlie, and Kelly break down the action, including a look at who's most to blame for the collapse. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
This stings. The Flyers needed to win against the Buffalo Sabres to keep their season alive and John Tortorella went with Ivan Fedotov for his first NHL start to get the job done. The Flyers played hard and generated some chances early, and Noah Cates finally got them on the board to tie the game 1-1 in the second period. But rookie Jack Quinn's two goals late in the game sealed the victory for the Sabres, 4-2. JP, Charlie, and Kelly break down the action and what this means now for the playoff race. We’re nearly at the end. The Philadelphia Flyers will play 6 games over the next 12 days, and they’ll have to earn playing any more than that this season with a few wins, beginning this weekend. Charlie & Bill look at Philly’s playoff odds, the remaining schedule, and which Flyers players need to step up to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
The Philadelphia Flyers are clinging to their spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for dear life with only six games remaining in the regular season. Reinforcements on defense in the form of Nick Seeler and Jamie Drysdale have arrived, returning from lengthy time out of action, and Russian sensation Ivan Fedotov has made his debut after a long saga to make it to the NHL. Will it be enough to push the orange and black over the finish line and into the postseason for the first time since 2020? Charlie, Kelly & Bill debate all things Flyers ahead of the final few weeks. After a shaky first 20 minutes that saw Sam Ersson surrender a pair of goals, the new goalie stepped in! Ivan Fedotov made his NHL debut, beginning the middle frame in relief with Philly trailing 2-1. Jamie Drysdale also returned to the lineup tonight, and it seems like those events should be the energy boost this dragging Flyers club needs to get back in the win column after 4 straight losses. Noah Cates got the Flyers on the board in the 1st period, but the Islanders scored back-to-back goals in a span of 18 seconds. Sanheim netted a goal in the 2nd to tie it 2-2, but Anders Lee's goal made it 3-2 late in the 2nd period. Morgan Frost's game-tying goal with 9.6 seconds left sent the game to OT and gave the Flyers a much-needed point amidst a tight playoff race. Yet Frost and Drysdale's costly turnover in OT allows the Islanders to escape with a 4-3 win in OT. Bill, JP & Charlie break down the action, and take a look at the updated standings. I understand that Stef always wants to be part of the show and good for her, but maybe scale it back a little bit. I listen to every episode and this isn't the first time she annoyed me but this one made me comment. Stef, stay on the show if you want but take more of a sidekick role, it will be better for the show.
