Description
Comedian Adam Blank hosts "Remember The Game?", a retro gaming podcast. Each week, Adam and his guest will select a video game that they grew up playing, and spend time reminiscing about what they loved (or hated) about it. Not intended to be a history lesson, "Remember The Game?" is more like a conversation you'd overhear on the playground as a kid. The discussions are all over the place, and are guaranteed to fill you with that warm, nostalgic feeling. (Or rage, like you felt with the underwater level in the original Ninja Turtles game). Either way, it's gonna be fun! New episodes every Wednesday!

And yep, I get it now. MLF is awesome. The football itself is fine. Personally I prefer Tecmo Bowl for my retro football fix, but this is adequate. Where Mutant League Football shines is, well, the mutants. Decapitating opponents, bribing (or murdering) refs, and pushing your opponents into outer space are just some the things that set this game apart from other classic football titles. Add in a great playoff mode, the ability to win games by killing too many of the other team's players, and some pretty solid gross out humour, and you have a game that's playable in 2025 as it was in 1993.My guest this week is the official referee of RTG, Mike The Ref. We had a great time taking some shots at NFL fans while laughing it up over all the insanity that is Mutant League Football. I get why all you Sega kids are so proud of these games now, and I can PROMISE you Mutant League Hockey is getting some airtime at RTG Industries sooner than later. And before we slaughter some ref, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week we compare the PS3/Xbox 360 wars to the SNES/Genesis battles of the 90's. Is there any chance we get as second Mario Kart game this generation?? And why am I a Broncos fan??Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! And Super Metroid is fucking special. Some will argue this isn't just the best game on the SNES, but the best Metroidvania game ever made. From the atmosphere, to the music, to the controls (minus the wall jumping), Super Metroid doesn't really have a weakness. It's unquestionably one of the biggest NES to SNES leaps ever, and as a listener pointed out, it not only launched the Metroidvania genre, but it still does Metroidvania-ing better than games that came after it. Masterpiece is all that applies here.My boy Dan from Dissect That Film returns to this week to talk about his favourite game of all time, Super Metroid. The first RTG dedicated to Super Metroid was fun, but the audio was bad, even by our low standards. So we're here to right that wrong and give Samus the episode she deserves. And before we hunt bounties, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week someone asks what, if any, success I've had advertising RTG on the internet. Am I planning to play Kirby Air Riders? And what am I hoping to see out of the Gears of War movie??Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This is absolutely one of the best run 'n gun games I've ever played. It's an arcade game, and it took me a little while to wrap my head around the idea that I was gonna die. A lot. But once I got over my fear of death I found myself lost in this game's charm, silly smooth graphics, and hella fun gameplay. This was my first Metal Slug, but it won't be my last.My guest this week is a living legend in the world of RTG, my pal Chris. He has been bugging me since episode 1 to cover Metal Slug 3, and I finally get why. We had a scare this afternoon where we thought we had lost the review audio, but everything wrapped up in a neat little PACKAGE and I can't wait for you to let us convince you to play this game. And before we turn into zombies, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week we talk about specific controllers for specific games. If I could get Shigeru Miyamoto to autograph one item, what would it be? And am I excited about the upcoming Bubsy collection???Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! But what about a game that isn't bad, but isn't good? It's just kinda, there? That's how I'd describe WCW Mayhem. The glory days of WCW were long gone by the time Mayhem dropped. THQ was taking their Revenge engine and turning it into WWF WrestleMania 2000, and EA picked up the bony remains of World Championship Wrestling to make a new wrestling game. The end result was Mayhem, a competent wrestling game with little replay value and a barebones career mode.I'm rolling solo this week, and while I still had fun playing WCW Mayhem, it made for a tricky review because there just isn't a lot of meat on the bone. But between the engine, ranting about Hulk Hogan, comparing it to other games from that era, and reminiscing about WCW as a whole, I managed to pry a 3-star match out of our game this week. And before we hit the ring, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I think the big jumps in console generations are a thing of the past? What's my favourite WCW match? And where do I stand on the Pikmin series?Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Apologies everyone, a last minute delay in this week's RTG had me scrambling for a fill-in. Every second Friday over on Patreon, I drop an episode of Blank Ranks, where I do an arbitrary list of something random. The first episode went live a couple months ago and I counted down my 10 favourite Marvel Superheroes, and here it is for free for the internet to listen to and argue about. RTG will be back next week!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

I played it for the first time the month and thought I liked it enough, but some of you worship it like Special K!If you never played it back in '99, Soul Reaver is a little Zelda-ish. Some action, some puzzle solving, a dash of metroidvania. You play as a dude that got killed and is brought back for revenge, and you regularly swap between the physical and spirit realms to solve puzzles and kick ass. It's a little cryptic and confusing at times, and it definitely has a PSOne camera, but I liked it.My buddy Daniel just finished his first run through Soul Reaver as well, so he gave me an early morning call to talk about it. We both gave it decent scores, but I feel like we were a little harder on it than I expected it be. Have a listen and see what you think, why dontcha? And before we Reav some Souls, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if there's any gaming franchises out there that have never fucked up? What's an average day in the world of Adam Blank like? And would I ever do another episode where I'm playing the game while we review it?Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! I had to skip RTG this week due to recording conflicts with my guests and summer holidays, but fortunately we have HUNDREDS or bonus podcasts on our Patreon to pull from to make sure you still get your fix. This episode originally aired for our Patreons back in February, and it's my spoiler-free review of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. I did tack a short spoiler-cast on at the end, but I'll warn you about 10 times and play music before it starts, so you're safe to listen either way. As a kid I found Dream Land too easy and it scarred me, but as I've gotten older I've grown to appreciate the simplicity that is a Kirby game. And while it isn't his best work, Kirby's Dream Land 2 is a beautiful walk through a puke-green park.Dream Land 2 takes everything the OG Dream Land game did and makes it better. Animal sidekicks with more power abilities. Way more levels. Save files. Optional collectibles. This game isn't making my top 10 of all-time list or anything, but for a Game Boy game, it's pretty damned ambitious. Our resident Game Boy junkie, Patrick, is my guest this week. While we both agreed that Dream Land 2 did a lot to build on the base of the first game, we found ourselves ranking the two in different orders. Honestly, I think we were both a little harder on this game than we intended to be, but we righted through ship with some solid scores at the end.And before we start swallowing, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks which Simpsons character would best fit in with Super Smash Bros? Someone asks how I feel about another popular "gaming" channel. And what's with my horrible @memberthegame social media handle?Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! But Super Mario 3D Land is one that slips through my memory cracks a lot, and dare I say, for a Mario game I think it's actually a little underrated...It doesn't really do anything new or special, but it's a rock-solid 3D platformer, it brings back classic tunes and power-ups from previous Mario games, and while I think it's a little bit of a tech demo for the 3DS's 3D features, the fact remains that it's got that same level of polish most of my favourite plumber's games have.Pending RTG Hall of Famer Mark McCue is my guest this week, and while he has a stronger attachment to 3D Land than I do, I think I actually like it a little more than he does. At the end of the day it's me and Mark talking about a Mario game and sprinkling in some comedy stories. After 340 episodes of this show, you know what you're getting. And before we save the Princess, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if Xbox is the new Sega?? Where do I stand on Undertale?? And what SNES games would I recommend for a 7 year old?Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Bomberman is a damned retro gaming hero, and I'm ashamed that it took 339 episodes to give that little guy his flowers and show him some love. But we're righting that wrong this week with the Bomberman game I've easily spent the most time with: Bomberman 64.I've never owned a Bomberman game before, but one of my best friends in High School had this one and we played it. My God, how we played it. So many hours of blowing each there up, fighting over alliances, backstabbing, trash talking, and of course, dressing up our Bombermen. One of my all-time favourite multiplayer titles.I didn't really play the single player mode back in the day, but I've spent the past week grinding through that as well. I don't think it holds up nearly as well as the multiplayer, and it reminds me of why I hate this fucking controller so much, but it's far from the worse 64 game I've ever played.I'm rolling solo this week, and I had a great time reliving my childhood and talking Bomberman 64. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.And before we bomb, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, we talk about the sense of accomplishment that came with beating a game as a kid, and why modern games just don't seem to hit the same. What's my favourite Mario Kart World track? And do I have any advice for those looking to jump into the world of self-employment?Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 N64 multiplayer heavyweights: Super Smash Bros, Goldeneye 007, and WWF No Mercy.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

I adore the SNES and love Contra and Super C, so Contra III should be my jam. But for some reason, it's never really clicked with me. I finally spent a week grinding away at it and while I don't think it's as good as its 8-bit counterparts, I have to admit, it won me over.
Contra is gaming done right. Run, shoot, jump. My love of the NES games comes from their snare drum tight controls and tough-but-fair challenge. the SNES entry improves on a lot of the aspects of Contra & Super C: better weapons, level variety, obviously the graphics. I may not like the gameplay as much as the older games, but I can't deny that it levels up in a lot of aspects. And it's still tough as fuck, which I love.
My boy Tyler hops back on the show this week. Contra III is his preferred flavour of Contra, and while we may have disagreed on where the series peaked, we come together to show this game some love and talk about the good, the bad, and the bullshit (level 5) of Contra III.
And before we run 'n gun, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro!
This week, someone asks if gaming is stuck in a remaster loop? What console still needs a mini version? And is it wrong to start your kid out with retro games instead of modern stuff?

It's well known 'round these parts that I adore Mega Man X. But for some reason, I never really gave the first sequel the time of day. And after almost 7 years of podcasts, it's time to right that wrong. I finally played through it and damned if it isn't almost as good as it's older brother.
It's the tried and true Mega formula: take down 8 evil robots, steal their weapons, save the world, and die a lot in the process. Like X, it's got those sexy 16-bit graphics, 'Mavericks' instead of robot masters (which are all very fucking cool), and you can still find those Dr. Light chambers to power up with. I think the only thing missing from X2, in my eyes at least, is the nostalgia I have for the first game. And even then, this one holds up just fine. This a great game.
My boy Dan from Dissect That Film returns to this week to talk about his favourite MM game in X2. We work through the robot masters, Zero subplot, soundtrack, weapons, and basically just spend an hour fluffing the Blue Bomber.
And before we save the world, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro!
This week, someone asks if I think a video game crash is coming? When will I review some more NES movie games? And if I could be one weapon tool, or accessory from a video game, what would I be? (The answer speaks to my character).

Gears of War is the series that reinvigorated my love of gaming back on the 360. It's a fantastic game. But Gears of War 2 managed to top it in every single way. This isn't just one of the best sequels ever, it's unquestionably one of my favourite games of all-time.
The gang is back: Marcus, Dom, Baird, and of course, the Cole Train. The story picks up after the events of the first game, and while the combat remains the same, they found a way to improve on it and throw you into so many different scenarios that it never feels played out or boring. Sick story, new weapons, awesome locations, and you even run around inside a giant worm. How could anyone not love Gears 2??
The Dom to my Marcus, my buddy Tyler, returns to the show this week. I love Gears 2 for the campaign, and Tyler gushes about it as well, but also takes a dive into his love of Horde mode and the rest of the multiplayer offerings Gears 2 has to offer. This was as much fun as I've had recording an episode in a long time, and I hope we made all you Gears heads proud.
And before we slice up a giant worm, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro!
This week, someone asks what the coolest thing I've done as part of the show over the past 7 years has been? Are these cheap emulation devices you always see on Instagram worth your money? And Play One/Remake One/Erase One: the entire catalogs of Square-Enix, EA, and Capcom.

We skip the first Wednesday of the month to give me time to pay the games for RTG, but fortunately we have a backlog of about 1,000 podcasts on Patreon to draw from to fill in the gaps. And this week, we're turning the nostalgia knob all the way up and looking back at what is inarguably one of the greatest consoles of all-time: the Super Nintendo. Y'all know the raging clue I have for this system, and on this episode we talk about the launch, the SNES era, our favourite games, memories, and so much more. God bless the SNES. Everyone around RTG Industries knows I love the NES, and the best games in the NES library are practically royalty around here. That exclusive list includes the Mario trilogy, both Contras, a ton of Mega Man, and of course, the legendary Mike Tyson's Punch-Out...
I have been trying to beat this game on and off for almost 35 years and still haven't reached the top of the mountain. For the longest time, Soda Popinski was my kryptonite. I couldn't beat him as a kid, and he just held court over me (is that a term?) every time I went up against him. I've finally slayed that demon, but the illusive Mike Tyson victory still evades me. For now, anyway.
But that doesn't matter. Modern tough games make me crazy, but NES tough games are my torture of choice. I don't think I'll ever get tired of playing Punch-Out, and every couple years I fall into its clutches and spend a month or two swearing at little ref Mario. It's practically a perfect game and I'll tell you why on this episode.
And before I get knocked out, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro!
This week, someone asks where most of our listeners are located, so I share some stats. Is there a genre of game I discovered later in life and fell in love with? And what 5 Switch games would I recommend to a newcomer?

OKami took down Max Payne in the finals of the 2025 Pre-March Madness Patreon Poll Tournament Extravaganza, and after almost 30 hours of playtime, I'm ready to talk about. I agree with everyone that says this game is stunning to look at and the soundtrack is superb. It's creative and tells a story. Honestly, I like almost everything about Okami. Except, playing it...
It definitely has some Zelda DNA in it and that isn't a bad thing at all. You're solving puzzles, acquiring power-ups, running through fields. You get to play as a wolf which is rad. I just didn't find the actual gameplay mechanics that interesting. The paintbrush mechanic is sic, but I feel it was under utilized. The combat is kinda boring. And while the writing is really solid (and funny), there's just a little too much of it.
My buddy Bradley McCue returns to the show this week. He's a Zelda diehard and liked Okami a little more than I did. I thought it was a work of art that I just didn't want to play, whereas Bradley thought it lived up to the Zelda DNA coursing through its veins. We had a pretty good discussion about this one, so whether you love this game or not, I hope/think you'll enjoy this episode.
And before we try to get Issun laid, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro!
This week, someone asks what console has the best ratio of good games to bad in its library? What are my favourite video game quotes? And have I ever turned anything really cool down in my careers as a comedian or podcaster?

I have been wanting to talk about poker video games for about 200 episodes now, and finally decided to spoil myself (thanks Flanders) and dedicate an episode of the show to the video game ports of the card game I love so much. It's too bad they kinda suck.
I think you could fire up World Series of Poker today and be pretty underwhelmed. It's ugly, the career mode is pretty thin, and the AI is trash. But back in 2005 when I fell in love with poker and didn't have the bankroll to play at the casino, this was where I got my fix when I couldn't get a home game together. I have a soft, soft spot in my heart for not only the WSOP video games, but WPT and Stacked as well, and I get into all of them this week in a rare solo episode.
And before I shuffle up and deal, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro!
This week, someone asks if I've ever written any jokes about gaming for my comedy act? I address the barrage of Titanfall 2 DMs I've gotten lately. And is GTA 6 worth $100?
Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features the next 3 games I'm planning to cover on RTG: Gears of War 2, Okami, and Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! This was a special episode for me, because I can't get enough of golf games, and I had forgotten that my love of the genre began back in high school with the legendary Hot Shots Golf. This was like visiting an old friend, albeit an old friend that'll shank you into the rough and screw you over every chance it gets.
By today's standards, Hot Shots probably seems a little archaic. It's the classic 3-click system, the graphics are, well, PSOne graphics, and the gameplay can be brutally unforgiving. But look beyond that and what you have is the ground work for a series that so many people have fallen in love with over the years. I wouldn't necessarily say I prefer these to Mario Golf, but there's an argument for sure.
My guest this week is the official referee of RTG, Mike The Ref. We both love sports games, and as such, both love Hot Shots Golf. We talk about how tough this game can be, how far the genre has come, and of course, the legendary Hot Shots multiplayer.
And before we tee off, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro!
This week, someone asks about Nintendo's consumer-unfriendly practices (which I agree with). Where do I stand on Canadian teams in the Stanley Cup Playoffs?? And yes, I address the new Ecco the Dolphin game.
Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 old-school golf games: Lee Trevino's Fighting Golf, NES Open, and Kirby's Dream Course. The first game I bought with my own money was Kirby's Dream Land. I beat that same night and I was crushed. but ever since then, I've enjoyed every Kirby game I've played. And after 100%ing Kirby 64, I'm starting to think maybe I've forgiven that little puff ball.
Kirby 64 might not be my favourite Kirby game, but it's pretty solid. Being able to combine enemy abilities is the secret sauce for sure, and when you add in some King Dedede alliance levels, the occasional mine cart level, some solid boss fights, and the fact that you can play this one with the d-pad which negates that stupid controller, you get a damned good platformer.
My guest this week is PENDING Hall of Famer, Mark McCue. We've been looking for a project to do together for a while (shoutout to anyone that gets that reference), and we both had a good time with 64 Kirbys. And neither of us is ashamed to admit we had a little trouble at times, too. OK we are ashamed, but we still admit it.
And before we eat, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro!
This week, I address my Switch 2 acquisition situation. Do I buy old games purely based on nostalgia? And are there any games I hate that I wish I loved??
Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 'B-Tier' Nintendo 64 exclusives: StarFox 64, F-Zero X, and Yoshi's Story. Learn more about your ad choices. I think it (along with the rest of the GameCube wrestling games) get overshadowed by the SmackDown series, but if you grew up playing the N64 holy grail titles, you have to play this one.Day of Reckoning's controls feel like the next-step from games like WCW/nWo Revenge and WWF No Mercy. Simple enough for anyone to pick up, but there's enough depth there for us die-hards to really sink our teeth into. Add in a decent roster and a solid career mode, and you have all the ingredients for at LEAST a four-star match. My guest this week is the official referee of RTG, Mike The Ref. Another fantastic episode of this podcast. This South Park game was ridiculously fun but also ridiculously easy to play. In all honesty the easiness never took away from anything in the game.
I hope you review Shining Force 2 some day.
I just found this podcast, I love it! Hits me right in the feels, I’m a huge gamer so this is perfect for me. It helps me through my 10 hour work days. I’m on episode 64. I hope this never ends. Being a big RPG fan I hope there is an episode on Secret of Mana. That is the game that got me into RPG’s, I try to not look ahead bc I like to see if I can tell the game by the music. 5 stars dude, you are funny as fuck keep it up.
One of my favourite hobbies when I have free time is playing online slots. That's something I feel I'm genetically inclined to. Visit a casino website like https://jackwin.com/en-ca/games/slots/providers-is-Microgaming/ (Microgaming) to play slot games online. The winner is Jack Win. Play Playboy, Immortal Romance and Major Millions, my recommendation. These are a few of my favorite online slot machines.
Yo! Noid is one of my favorite nes games of all time. Never beat it but its just one of those games that has a soft spot in my heart as a great time waster.
