Nancy’s eight year long obsession culminates in the indictment of Amanda C. Riley for wire fraud. It sends a shockwave through the local community. Amanda reads a statement to the court, and the judge gives her verdict.
The Amanda C. Riley case is the only one of its kind in IRS history. Amanda is currently serving the longest federal prison sentence in history for soliciting donations for faking cancer.

This is an interesting podcast but so chaotic in it's presentation. Jumping around in the timeline, talking to people and their voices aren't exactly distinguishable.
I liked this podcast but the way they jumped around in the timeline so much was so confusing at times.
Was it only a matter of time before she started doing something to her kids, to fake or induce illnesses in them for attention? Soooo relived that it did not get to that point....yet.

I can’t believe Amanda had the nerve to lie about a pregnancy reversing cancer’s progress! Unbelievable!
I hope she goes back to teaching! As an elementary school teacher, her story made Amanda's horrific behavior and the problems she inflicted on people so much more real for me.
*SPOILERS* I wish this podcast had trusted its listeners to consider that a middle ground might be true - that Amanda does not have cancer, but may have another illness. The suggestion she had lupus in college, the story of her fainting and peeing herself in church, spending a lot of time in bed, asking for help with childcare and home management, photographs taken inside hospitals and excessive time off work *could* all be based on a total lie, *or* could indicate she has a chronic or invisible illness. This doesn't make her innocent or more worthy of sympathy (you can of course be genuinely sick and a manipulative person at the same time) but I found Nancy's argument that Amanda faked her way into the emergency room and has been a healthy person this whole time ignored some other possibilities. This could be what her former employers are alluding to in their comment about there being 'two sides to the story'. Living with chronic or invisible illness is often stigmatised and poorly un

Even listening to this story I'm like, I can't handle this woman's drama, how these people put up with it I don't know.
