Description

Kev and Randy take to the mics once a week to talk about a song from the catalogue of the enigmatic, brilliant, and sometimes flawed rock legends Queen. Each week a song will be chosen at random so that the boys won't know what track they'll be reviewing. Kev comes into the podcast as a Queen afficionado, while Randy is a more casual fan, but has a huge wealth of knowledge about recording, performing, and music in general. At the end of each episode, both will either upvote or downvote the song and we'll take to social media to see what the listeners think!

A Winter's Tale

A Winter's Tale

2025-10-3001:22:50

Get your tomatoes in people, winter is upon us!!! There's the usual buffoonery; The Cardinal is having problems with his "drive" and Mrs. Cardinal probably isn't happy about it! Kev's heading to a show next year and we dig into the finer points of lyricism and whether it's all just a big old bag of bollocks! Oh, and somewhere in there, we also talk about the last song written solely by our hero, Freddie; "A Winter's Tale" from 1995's posthumous release, "Made in Heaven".If Kev were to title this episode, he’d probably call it “Lake Geneva Shoreline” or possibly, “What a way to sign off”NOTE: Skip forward to 28:49 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. The music at the end of the episode "Soul Sucker" by Absofunkinlutely. Alone Again Or

Alone Again Or

2025-10-2301:12:29

We get into the thwackfuck, which Kev's not having and has decided to fix next year. Randy's been at communist headquarters again getting all bolshie and shit. Tay Tay rears her inoffensive head, we talk at some length about the relative merits of panning in popular music, and we're introduced to a band from the 60s that neither of us have listened to named "Love". And look, we like love. We might ever go so far as to say we love it. But you know what we won't say? We definitely won't say "Ni!" to passers by. Oh and Alice's Dad is back with another pair of questions for us! If Kev were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Alone Again Or", or possibly, "I refuse to finish that thought"!The ninteenth installment in this podcast-within-a-podcast covers a song submitted by the ever lovely Dan Flett; the trippy, classical-infused lead track from Love's 1967 album "Forever Changes". So power your flowers, dig out your flares and prepare to get grooby man. It's time for "Alone Again Or"!The song at the end is the beautiful performance of "Angle From Montgomery" by Bonnie Raitt and John Prine at the ACL Presents: Americana 18th Annual Honors which aired on November 23, 2019 on PBS. Bear in mind that Bonnie is 70 years old here and John is 73 and giving one of his last performances before succumbing to Covid just 5 short months later. He is sorely missed. It's a Hard Life

It's a Hard Life

2025-10-1601:17:21

The one where Randy tells Kev about some fella who dangles low, Kev has to take an impromptu citizenship refresher and passes with moderately flying colours, we hear from Lord Percy, and we decide that all things considered, Regina is top tier and we're probably better off as we are. We also dig into the third single released from The Works, Freddie's Game-era-esque ballad, It's a Hard Life!If Kev were to title this episode, he’d probably call it “It’s a hard life” or possibly “Great King Prawn!”NOTE: Skip forward to 26:47 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. The music at the end of the episode "Charisma Free" by Randy Woods Band. Let Me in Your Heart Again

Let Me in Your Heart Again

2025-10-0901:02:18

At the height of his local celebrity, Prince signed a record contract, made fat stacks, got pissed off at the fatter stacks that the fatter cats were making and took all his toys and went home! That has very little to do with today's episode other than a conversation about how artists are treated by the industry, but we also talk about the relative attraction of baseball and why it's definitely not Randy's favourite pastime, we talk about The Cardinal's upcoming trip (well, the trip that he's currently on) and we also dive into a deep cut from The Works sessions that turned up on the Queen Forever compilation in 2014. Today's episode covers "Let Me in Your Heart Again"!If Kev were to title this episode, he’d probably call it “Let me in your heart again”, or possibly, “No serious, I’ve lost my keys and it’s pissing down out here!”NOTE: Skip forward to 28:30 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. The music at the end of the episode is the remake of Absofunkinlutely's "Grow Your Love" that appears on the Randy Woods Band's second album, "Soul Hammer". Flick of the Wrist

Flick of the Wrist

2025-10-0256:59

RIGHT! Stop that! It's all too silly! We get invaded by another podcast, there's plenty of radio talk and the boys go back to their childhoods to talk about the use and abuse of Walkie Talkies! The Dad jokes are back and Randy's radio retrieval ruination really rather rattles us! Aside from all that, we manifest, we spin the wheel, and we talk about a Queen song. I mean why the hell else would you even be here if we weren't doing that??? Oh yeh and there are a couple of listener questions near the end, if that's the sort of thing you like! It's time to get the cat claws out because we're talkin' "Flick of the Wrist" from the dynamite third album, "Sheer Heart Attack".If Randy were to title this episode, he’d probably call it "Let me squeeze you 'til you dried" or possibly, "wrists have been flicked"NOTE: Skip forward to 27:37 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. The music at the end of the episode is the rather brilliant Vaudevillian ditty from the Randy Woods Band, "Why Can't We Get Along" which you can find here: https://youtu.be/xFWlG-Y7zCQIf you want to get involved in the Kofi Klub, you can make a donation here: https://ko-fi.com/seasidepodreview and let us know which song you want us to add to the wheel! The Show Must Go On

The Show Must Go On

2025-09-2501:34:37

The last episode was the last song on the last album released by Queen with Freddie. This episode SHOULD have been the last song on the last album released by Queen with Freddie. Nary a dry in the house when listening to this one in December 1991 folks. There are allegations from Randy, we establish Kev's bone fides as an actual accredited Group Musicology Expert, and there's a lot more talk about Poison than you might think, but we're gonna blame Barry John Williams for that! We're spinning up one of the most beloved songs in the Queen catalogue today so the Cardinal had better be on his best behaviour! It's the Brian-penned epic, The Show Must Go On.If Randy were to title this episode, he’d probably call it "The show did go on" or possibly, "Freddie soars on last time"NOTE: Skip forward to 34:33 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. The music at the end of the episode is the live version of the song with Elton John that we listened to a little of in the episode. Wonderful Land

Wonderful Land

2025-09-1848:03

Burt Reynolds, Dick Dale, Cliff Richard, and fuck me if it isn't Hank Marvin with his red Fender Stratocaster! We talk about surfin' USA, surfin' UK, and surfin' SK. Surfin' UK is problematic because you have to fight the frigid north sea, a frankly terrifying volume of wee beige jobbies bobbing along beside you, and then the disdain and ridicule of your friends! Surfin' SK also has its challenges; namely the sheer amount of time it would take one to get to the damn beach with your surf board!!! This is the last of our mini Kofi run here while Kev is in England. As long as the plane doesn't go down and he doesn't enjoy his three weak pod break too much, we'll be back next week with our usual silliness for ya!If Kev were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Wonderful Land", or possibly, "Definitely not Regina"The eighteenth installment in this podcast-within-a-podcast covers a song submitted by our pal Al Dudeney; the slinky 50's instrumental rocker, "Wonderful Land" by The Shadows! Get your Hank and your Marvin, slip on those drainpipe trousers and smear a gob of brylcreme in your hair cos it's time to cut a rug!If you want to get involved in the Kofi Klub, you can make a donation here: https://ko-fi.com/seasidepodreview and let us know which song you want us to add to the wheel! We're heading into heavier territory with this week's song courtesy of the greatest postman Scotland, or possibly the entire United Kingdom, has ever known. 568,421 positive reviews on ratemypostie.com can't be wrong! What does the Don have for us this week? Well, it's a band that Kev liked for a bit when he was younger but hasn't kept up with and certainly a band that the Cardinal most likely isn't reaching for any time soon!If Kev were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "I like my coffee like I like my women", or possibly, "in a plastic cup..."The seventeenth installment in this podcast-within-a-podcast covers a song submitted by our pal Ruddy Rutherford; "Caffeine", by those little rascals Faith No More. It's not epic, but we care a lot, so will we dig this tune?If you want to get involved in the Kofi Klub, you can make a donation here: https://ko-fi.com/seasidepodreview and let us know which song you want us to add to the wheel! Delta Lady

Delta Lady

2025-09-0443:52

We're going back to a time before Queen records existed. To a time when the summer of love had wound down but Leon Russell was still tokin'. This one is a song he wrote for Joe Cocker, who released it as the first single from his self-titled second album. November Rain is brought up again, for some ungodly reason and we discuss the relative merits of mic-ing toms from above or below for a tedious amount of time. Also, we try to figure out if Leon Russell or Joe Cocker would have ever made it onto American Idol. No. The answer is no. If Kev were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Delta Lady", or possibly, "Leon is stooooooooooooooooned man!"The sixteenth installment in this podcast-within-a-podcast covers a song submitted by Lynn DeAnda; "Delta Lady", by Leon Russell. If this song were a pie, it would be cherry with whipped cream; it's tasty, rich, and filling! If you want to get involved in the Kofi Klub, you can make a donation here: https://ko-fi.com/seasidepodreview and let us know which song you want us to add to the wheel! It's the last track from the last canonical Queen album and don't let Corey Morrissette tell you any different. Cosmos Rocks is NOT a Queen album Corey!!! What kind of infantile buffoon carries on an argument with a podcast co-host in the episode notes of a completely different podcast? Me, that's who! But I digress. I also dye grass. And Dai Glass is a mate of mine from school! Shit, my mind wandered again! Look, we're not telling you this song will change your life, but it's the last little bit of Freddie we got, so give it a chance! If Randy were to title this episode, he’d probably call it "Not the U2 song", or possibly "Roger had the best hair of the band!"NOTE: Skip forward to 26:06 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. The music at the end of the episode is "Moose Jaw Coleslaw" by Absofunkinlutely. Three things must ye know about Moose Jaw Coleslaw. One, it's from Moose Jaw. Two, it's coleslaw... now the third, well the third I can't remember but it was on the tip of my tongue last night.....If you want to get involved in the Kofi Klub, you can make a donation here: https://ko-fi.com/seasidepodreview and let us know which song you want us to add to the wheel! Seaside Pod Tofu! So adorable... Seaside Pod Tofu! Whoo hoo! Seaside Pod Tofu! Give us a bit... Confused? Well strap in, this one goes all over the ice! We're talking Gaga, we're talking tofu, we're talking French, et Randy essaie de suggérer qu'il est aux commandes et que Kev est l'acolyte ! It's all going on over at seaside towers. One of our boys though has a fairly major problem with the synths and the Linn drums! Is there gonna be a schism in the pod?If Randy were to title this episode, he’d probably call it "Man misses radio, writes song" or possibly, "I'm in love with my radio!"Today's episode looks at the opener to 1984's The Works. It's time to twiddle those dials and step back in time because it's "Radio Ga Ga"!NOTE: Skip forward to 30:43 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. The music at the end of the episode is "Aunt Jemima", a song so cheerful, that when Absofunkinlutely used to play it, children would come running from their homes shouting "Papa papa! The man, he is singing the song again papa!" as tears of joy ran down their happy little faces! Little did they know the malevolent undercurrent lurking just behind the sunshine!!! Flash's Theme

2025-08-1401:17:12

Finally! We're getting to the spandex and hot alient chicks! Seemingly, there is no reason for these extraordinary intergalactical upsets. Only Cardinal Randy Woods, at TCOGFY, has provided any explanation! Is Flash's Theme the greatest movie theme of all time? We're not gonna say it isn't. We get into the weeds about gender-swapping songs, live versions, and kazoo solos courtesy of our congregants and it's all fun and games until someone loses an eye!If Randy were to title this episode, he’d probably call it "Splish splash, we're listening to Flash" or possibly "King of the Universe"Today's episode looks at one of the greatest ever songs written for a movie. Brian understood the bried and went just as camp and kitsch as the movie looks! It's time for FLASH! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!NOTE: Skip forward to 27:26 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. The music at the end of the episode is the brilliant "Bode's Galaxy" by Absofunkinlutely. If you listen to it on 5 times speed, backwards, it opens a wormhole to a parallal dimension where "I'm in Love With My Car" was the A Side and "Bohemian Rhapsody" was the B Side. And John sang lead on both!!!If you want to get involved in the Kofi Klub, you can make a donation here: https://ko-fi.com/seasidepodreview and let us know which song you want us to add to the wheel! Need Your Loving Tonight

Need Your Loving Tonight

2025-08-0701:21:43

We come up with the perfect name for Nickelback's Greatest Hits (which, if there were any sort of decency in the world would be a blank CD that you can just burn some Queen onto!), we solve one the great philosophical questions of the age regarding soap, we invent a new product line, and we have a bitey, punchy, and cool time doing it! Also, we ruminate on the relative merits of having four fucking brilliant songwriters in your band and whether it's any sort of advantage (hint; yes, yes it is!) and listen to a Queen song! Imagine that...If Randy were to title this episode, he’d probably call it "Gettin' freaky with some Deacy" or possibly, "Don't we all need loving tonight?"Today's episode looks at one of the Deacy's little pop songs. It's short, sweet, and oh so singable, but is it a champion? "Need Your Loving Tonight" is the song we're talking about and "The Game" is the album it came from! NOTE: Skip forward to 28:22 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. The music at the end of the episode is the sleazy instrumental jam, "Soul Hammer", by the Randy Woods Band. You can go find that here: https://youtu.be/SQGfOMjxJCc. Be very careful if you're ovulating (or brovulating!) before listening to this track. Now we're talking! It's none more Queen. It's none more Freddie. It's none more John, Bri, or Deacy. But is it a champion????If Randy were to title this episode, he’d probably call it "There's music and love everywhere" or possibly "It's a super fun Freddie tune"Today's episode looks at one of the greatest musical achievements in the history of rock. Today we suspend normal operations to talk about one of the most important men in the history of heavy metal: the Prince of Darkness, the Madman, Ozzy Osbourne. Ozzy had a profound impact on so many people both on and off the stage. Through his highs and lows, and there were so many of both, he always maintained an integrity and humility that made a mockery of the satanic brush critics tried to paint him with. We spin up a combined Ozzy/Black Sabbath wheel not once, but twice, to talk about our love for this guy and the genre that he had a vital part in creating. We talk about dancehall. We talk about Oral. We talk about Belize country songs. Oh and I think we remembered to talk about Queen...If little Eric were to title this episode, he’d probably call it "Tear It Up" or possibly, "and tape it back together again so you don't get in trouble with your mum"!Today's episode looks at Brian's attempt to drag Queen back onto the classic classic rock station! It's time to "Tear It Up"!NOTE: Skip forward to 30:25 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. The music at the end of the episode is "Kind Of Love", by the Cardinal's fantastic band Absofunkinlutely. Well, well, well. It's been over a year since we last visited the game! In June last year we were putting out the fire, but this week we're dealing with a frosty feline! It's a longer episode and for some reason we were very giggly and very silly when we recorded on Tuesday! Must be something in the water! But, we have the usual array of comments, minifestaytions, and shenanigans for you to listen to - and we always truly appreciate you listening! If Randy were to title this episode, he’d probably call it "Just cruising" or possibly, "Here's a song!"Today's episode looks at the madcap bluster of the overblown opener from the preposterous Jazz; "Mustapha!"NOTE: Skip forward to 30:58 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. The music at the end of the episode is "Scared Outta My Mind", by the brilliant Ivan Anderson, in his guise as "Cyberattack". As we were talking about St. Vincent and her innovative guitar player, I wanted to give you a listen to an artist who is similarly pushing boundaries and taking the instrument into new and interesting areas. How in the name of fuck is The Cardinal supposed to enjoy his onion rings with all this bro country dogshit that seems to be going on in his favourite restaurant? Why in the name Mary fucking Magdalene and sunny Jesus is Def Leppard playing Cuntry Thunder in Saskatchewan this year? And will somebody, for the love of all that is decent and good get that plook on Ruddy's arse sorted out! Apparently it's thinking of starting its own podcast!!!!If Kev were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Crows in the Wheatfield", or possibly, "Emus in the eggplant lot!"The fifteenth installment in this podcast-within-a-podcast covers a song submitted by the wonderful David A Wilson, who sent us a Del Amitri song that Kev isn't really familiar with (calls himself a fan?) and that Randy has never heard. It's a cut from their debut album titled "Crows in the Wheatfield".The song at the end of the show is a stunning live rendition of Justin Currie's beautiful breakup song, "If I Ever Loved You". You can watch the performance move Chris Difford to tears here: https://youtu.be/Y9xS1WkJdKk (Dedicated to a friend who is going through some stuff right now)If you want to get involved in the Kofi Klub, you can make a donation here: https://ko-fi.com/seasidepodreview and let us know which song you want us to add to the wheel! Well, we finished our first album and it's....... well look, it's not the jewel in the regal crown now is it! But is it as bad as all that? There surely has to be some gold buried in all that thar pyrite... right? To find out, we threw it out to you, our lovely listeners to rank these songs and help us definitively decide which song would sit atop the leaderboard for Queen's 1989 release. We were joined by the fantastic Michael J Smith and Ian Winick; hosts of the equally fantastic Lord of Adders Black podcast. We went big and live on Youtube over three continents and were ably assisted by our good pal Corey Morrissette, who turned the knobs and pressed the buttons and made the whole live stream experience completely seamless! Enjoy! If Randy were to title this episode, he’d probably call it "didn't we already rank these?" or possibly "why are we ranking these again"Go check out the foul and fabulous forms of Lord of Adders Black over at Goodpods or wherever you consume such things! https://go.goodpods.com/XCZMFuIf you want to get involved in the Kofi Klub, you can make a donation here: https://ko-fi.com/seasidepodreview and let us know which song you want us to add to the wheel! Hey!It's a good closing line. Maybe could have closed the album with it instead of more of that jazz..... Look, it's bananas. It's kooky. It's wild and woolly. It's Persian. It's Arabic. It's mainly absolute bollocks. But it's Queen. One might almost say it's none more Queen! But what in the green shit will the Cardinal make of this one??? And how many cheese puns are we in for on social media after last week's lactose-infused semi-turd of a song?If Randy were to title this episode, he’d probably call it "Kev pods like others fart!" or possibly, "Kev gives himself a segue when it's time to go to bed!"Today's episode looks at the madcap bluster of the overblown opener from the preposterous Jazz; "Mustapha!"NOTE: Skip forward to 22:16 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. The music at the end of the episode is "Through the Years", the first song Kev ever took in to Randy to record!
