I had my wisdom teeth out in high school, so it would have been around 2000, in CT. I was given an injection, gas and an IV. I woke up on the couch at home, no recollection of the ride home. Not sure if it's relevant, but I think the doctor was French Canadian.
I had anesthesia for my wisdom teeth removal but only bc I insisted (did NOT want to be awake for that) and paid the $800 my insurance wouldn't cover bc anesthesia wasn't "required". i think it depends on a lot of factors but I know plenty of people who did have their wisdom teeth removed and were awake for it 😬
