  Episode 11 In this episode I was blessed enough to get former bank regulator, now financial director Nina Qualls-Mendoza, and Tonya Love District Director.  I can't lie, I was a bit disheartened by the results from this past Tuesday's primaries.  What I hated most was the narrative the Bernie Sanders doesn't connect with black voters, while Joe Biden, a man who has a HORRIBLE RECORD with the black community is the go to choice because he was VP under Obama.  Hearing that same story over and over again, on mainstream media, I know that the casual black voter might even start to believe. it. We often hear, "People want a return to normalcy".  What is "normalcy" under a Biden presidency; especially when he was a part of the administration that gave us Trump? Its position at the edge of the U.S.–Mexico border makes it a fascinating site for hybrid forms, a crossroads of tension, migration, and creativity. In the early 1990s, out of that liminal zone, emerged Swing Kids—a band that fused the rhythmic sensibility of swing jazz with the sonic dissonance of hardcore punk. Their 1994 self-titled EP was less a collection of songs than an act of sonic revolt—a controlled detonation that anticipated what would later be called “screamo.” While their time together was brief, Swing Kids’ influence continues to reverberate, embodying the ethos of art as confrontation—a refusal to conform to genre, commerce, or calm. I’m honored to welcome them today to talk about the aesthetics of chaos, the politics of sound, and what it means to create something truly disruptive in a culture that increasingly rewards conformity.
