GOD GIVES EASY instructions for victory! The instructions are often easy, but the action required on our part is hard! On Elisha’s deathbed, the king of Israel, Joash, realized he had one opportunity left to ask the power of God to give him victory. The passion Joash had for the victory he wanted showed in the way he obeyed the instruction from the prophet of God. If you don’t put in your entire passion towards the victory you want, you will get the same result. When things don’t make sense, when things don’t go your way, what is your response? Maybe you get frustrated at your job because they didn’t give you that raise they promised, or maybe you get depressed when that opportunity you’ve been looking forward to for years falls through. What if, instead of placing your expectation on the things God has provided for you, you place your expectations on the Provider Himself? Habakkuk was not a quiet prophet. He asked God the hard questions, “Where are you, God? This doesn’t make sense. Jesus asked his disciples, “Why are you troubled? Why do doubts rise in your hearts?” If you feel that Jesus is asking you this today, buckle in because this message is for those of you who are seeking clarity in your lives. The apostles had walked away and had doubts beginning to fill their hearts and minds despite all the things they had witnessed. These are the ones who saw Jesus feed five thousand people with five loaves of bread and two fish. They saw Jesus resurrect Lazarus, and some of them saw him resurrect a little girl. They were the elite ones, yet when the women who were reminded that Jesus told them he would rise again and found his tomb empty, these elite ones called it nonsense. Don’t let the faith you’ve had and the faithfulness of God be exchanged for the idea that it’s nonsense! What brought clarity to the apostles was the presence of the Lord. Have you ever faced a situation that you are just praying for it to not happen? Maybe it’s bankruptcy, a divorce, or a child who is a prodigal, but whatever it is, you are begging God to take it from you so you don’t have to face it. Jesus shows us, in the Garden of Gethsemane, that deliverance does not always mean FROM a situation, but sometimes it means God delivers THROUGH a situation. Jesus knows what it’s like to face a situation and ask God to let it pass from you. But because Jesus faced what he had to face, and God did not let the cup pass from him, we, the entire human race, can experience hope, peace, love, and deliverance through whatever it is that is our Gethsemane season. Jesus said to His disciples, “I have food to eat that you do not know about,” in John 4, just after speaking with the woman at the well. What is this food He speaks of? Where can we, as believers, find this food and receive it? Israel cried out for God to give them peace, but what they failed to understand is that what they THOUGHT would give them peace would never fully satisfy them. God’s peace doesn’t always come after a situation is resolved. Sometimes, God’s peace comes before the  impending hardship even begins. Gideon knew this, and he received the Lord’s peace before the war even began. The enemy will do everything he can to try to persuade you from seeking true satisfaction for your soul by offering things that won’t ever satisfy you. They LOOK like they could, and they have a sweet aroma to them. But it won’t satisfy your internal craving. Maybe for you, it’s romantic partners. Maybe it’s the acceptance of others, or maybe it’s how many followers you have on social media. But whatever it is, there is a deeper root to the manifestation of your craving. Lazarus has died, and his family went through the entire process of burying him. In the midst of their grief, Jesus tells the disciples that He is glad that He wasn’t there to stop Lazarus from getting sick and dying. NOW was the time for Jesus to strengthen their faith! When facing a Lazarus situation, the enemy will try to cloud your mind with emotions and thoughts that God could have stopped it. But what if we peel back those emotions and thoughts, and receive Jesus’s red letters for the truth that they are? What if God needs our faith strengthened for what is to come? You’ve been overlooked, you’re frustrated, and you’re starting to think that God has forgotten about you. But He hasn’t! Your hidden season is where God has placed you, not just to keep you from public eyes, but to impart wisdom and truth to you that you will need in your next season. You hear this phrase said all the time, “Won’t He do it?” But you only hear it said from people whom God has done something for. You hear it when your friend just got married after waiting for YEARS for God to bring her a husband. You hear it when your sister announces a long-awaited pregnancy after years of infertility. You hear it when another friend pays off their last bit of debt that by God’s grace and mercy they were able to get out of. This is a declarative statement that assumes it’s already done EVEN BEFORE it happens. Won’t He do it? All these other people you see get their prayers answered, from finding their spouses, having babies, getting that job, or something else, and you ask yourself, “What do they have that I don’t that they got their prayers answered, but I haven’t gotten mine?” You’re tired and you’re exhausted from waiting and waiting and waiting. In 2 Kings 6 through 7, the king of Samaria boldly asks with bitterness, “Why should I wait for the Lord any longer” to end a famine devastating the land. You have seen God work for others, their marriages, their children, their finances. You’ve seen God move in so many areas, you’ve seen Him do all kinds of miracles for everyone else, and you love to see Him do it. But in your quiet time, in the place where no one else hears you, where no one is looking or peeking over, you ask, “What about me? When will that miracle that I need to happen happen to me?” You feel selfish for thinking it, but it’s still how you feel. “When, God? What about me?” The lepers in 2 Kings 6 had a mindset we should follow: “let’s get up from sitting here and find what is out there for us.” God orchestrated an entire army to flee from the sound of chariots, leaving behind everything for the lepers to find. You’ve been following the sign God has been leading you with, and you are searching and searching and searching. You ask around, “Where is it? Where is the house, the spouse, the thing that God has TOLD me He is guiding me to?” And then you hear it: the voice of Herod, telling you where to go, and he asks you to come back to him when you find it. The voice of the enemy. Herod told the magi where they would find the King of the Jews, and he asked them to return to tell him where Jesus is so he can find Him and “worship” Him. The enemy sent the magi in the right direction. The magi were ONLY 5 miles away from the place where Jesus was. Herod was RIGHT with his directions. When the enemy’s voice enters the scene, do not give up and do not return to him after you reach the destination that God is ultimately leading you to. You are so close.    Monologue: Autumn shares how she and Eddie are hiding presents from their kids this year.  Message: Autumn urges believers who are following their sign from the Lord that they are close to God’s destination for them when the enemy enters the scene, just as Herod entered the scene when the magi were so close to finding Jesus.
