Oh, how the college football turns have tabled. Melanie's Aggies traveled from the football mountaintop to the (temporary, we believe) valley this past weekend, so as you can imagine, she's still processing her emotions re: the loss. However, the good news is that this week marks the first installment of our annual holiday gift guide, and we're just as happy as we can be about that. Plus, we talk about our favorite fruity candy flavors, so basically we're changing the world one podcast episode at a time. So excited to see some of you in Dallas this week - and hope you enjoy, everybody! - Join Us on Patreon - Our Amazon Shop - Ticket info for San Antonio and Fayetteville live shows Show Notes: - A&M at South Carolina - shrubs at South Carolina's field - Cam Matthews - breakfasts with Matthew - Skittle Gummies - 2024 Big Boo Holiday Gift Guide Sponsors: - ZocDoc - use this link to download the app for free - Lumen - use this link for 15% off your purchase - Trust & Will - use this link for 10% off plus free shipping of your documents - OSEA - use code BIGBOO for 10% off
The Aggies are at the top of the SEC football standings, so naturally Melanie and I talk all about that on this episode - along with the state of her legs and feet after walking about 13,000 steps in her full-length cowboy boots. And in my neck of the woods, I cooked for Alex and his buddies this past Sunday night, so it's been BUTTER AHOY here in Birmingham. We also discuss reading ruts and how to maybe / hopefully / possibly snap out of them, and it's my turn for Five Favorites. For the second year in a row, The Big Boo Bowl was the Aggies' time to shine, but there was still a fine time to be had in Starkville. So this week Melanie and I discuss my very brief interaction with Dan Mullen, my enduring affection for the 2014 Mississippi State Bulldogs, and why it's bad form to throw objects on the field during a football game. Hypothetically.  We also talk about the non-football parts of our weekends, and it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites. As a shock to absolutely no one, my microphone appears to be dying a slow death, so hopefully our sound will be all better next week (she says, hopefully).  Enjoy, everybody! - Join Us on Patreon - Our Amazon Shop - Live Stream tickets for our Friday night Dallas show Show Notes: - The Big Boo Bowl - Georgia at Texas - the controversial call at the Georgia / Texas game - Ole Miss responds to claims of fake injuries - Sophie and Dan Mullen - Melanie and Jimbo Fisher - Little House on the Prairie on Amazon Prime - Mississippi State women's soccer #3 in the country - Round Top - Shrinking on AppleTV - The Miracle Club on Netflix - Aerie fleece super wide leg pants - gold dangle earrings - Adaline bracelet by Hudson Day - High Noon Market leather bags - maroon enamel heart on paperclip chain Sponsors: - Maya Chia - use code BOO15 for 15% off - Honeylove - use this link for 20% off - Lume - use code BIGBOO for 15% off - Thrive Market - use this link for 30% off your first order plus a $60 free gift
On this episode Melanie and I discuss the variety of smells that greeted me during my travels last week, and of course we talk about college football: Melanie's high level of relaxation during a bye weekend, LSU's overtime win, the upcoming Big Boo Bowl, my current fight with Kirby Smart, and the fact that I accidentally messaged Dan Mullen on Instagram. This past weekend delivered in terms of COLLEGE FOOTBALL CHAOS - which, as we all know, is Melanie's favorite. So on this week's episode we talk about the chaos, and about our weekends, and about the latest with all my traveling. Plus, Side Eyes and I See Yous. It was football shenanigans aplenty over the weekend, so of course Melanie and I share our thoughts about the games and the calls and the Pat McAfee antics. On this week's episode Melanie and I talk about college football (sad trombone for me), Melanie's unprecedented closet clean-out, and my latest travels related to book-related fun and shenanigans. Well, college football is pretty much all wrapped up for me this season, so this week Melanie and I discuss that unfortunate development as well as the very positive turn of events for her Aggies. This week Melanie and I bring back our college football Side Eyes and I See Yous as well as recap her weekend with Caroline home and my weekend at a conference about the Enneagram and Spiritual Disciplines. On top of that, I have a new book that's out this week, so Melanie makes us talk about that despite the fact that it wasn't on our episode outline.  We also discuss a couple of shows that have captured our attention, and it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites.  Enjoy, everybody! - Join Us on Patreon - Our Amazon Shop - Live Stream tickets for our Friday night Dallas show - Dallas and Chin Up, America t-shirts / sweatshirts Show Notes: - Notre Dame vs. NIU - Alabama vs. South Florida - Arkansas vs. Oklahoma State - Melanie's new air fryer - Life in the Trinity (this was the Enneagram workshop I went to) - A Fine Sight to See: Leading Because You Were Made for It - Sophie's Book Tour - Taylor at the first Chiefs' game - Travis' hat at the US Open - Couples Therapy (NOT FOR THE CHILDREN) - The Perfect Couple tv show - The Perfect Couple book - Sweed Cloud mascara - sleeveless sweater vest - dressy lace top - Twofer sweater dress set - Liv lounge set Sponsors: - Thrive Market - use this link for 30% off your first order and a free $60 gift - Trust & Will - use this link for 10% off plus free shipping - AG1 - use this link for 15% off your first purchase plus a free year's supply of vitamins D3 and K1 plus five free travel packs - OSEA - use code BIGBOO for 10% off
This week Melanie processes her A&M / Notre Dame feelings (in addition to her game-time dehydration issues), and I'm ticked that my beloved Bulldogs are not, in my opinion, receiving the recognition that a lifetime member of the Southeastern Conference should receive. Mostly, though, we're just delighted that college football is all the way back - and we continue to be curious about how Nick Saban is going to handle the whole Pat McAfee / GameDay situation. We also celebrate the return of my missing bracelets (it's a long story), and it's my turn for Five Favorites. Melanie and I are coming in hot with this week's episode because our quick trip to Dallas meant that we had to record today (Wednesday) - which is also when the episode releases. Add in the fact that Mel had to record outside and I was babysitting Hazel while window cleaners were working at our house, and you have a real audio masterpiece right here in episode 405. We talk about our time in Dallas, our love for Shipt, Hazel's arthritis - and it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites. Melanie and I were a little tired when we recorded this week, but all it took to create a little energy was a conversation about big trucks that carry limbs or maybe even gravel. We found our voices for sure and then managed to have discussions about what went on this past week as well as fashion trends for fall that leave us a little unsure. We also talk about move-in for Alex's junior year, and it's my turn for Five Favorites.  Hope you enjoy! - Join Us on Patreon - Our Amazon Shop - Live Stream tickets for our Friday night Dallas show Show Notes: - foreground and background decisions on "Feckless Politicians & Fearful Churches" on The Holy Post podcast (start around 49 minutes) - Emily in Paris - Gus Mayer in Birmingham - Melanie's maybe-flats from Zara - twofers at Anthropologie  - Amy Grant's version of "Angels We Have Heard on High" - Free People It's Official pullover - Lancome L'Absolu Rouge cream lipstick in Exotic Orchid - Brown & Haley Mountain Bars (peanut butter)  - St. Christopher medal necklace - Maya Chia Advanced Multi-Correctional eyelash and brow treatment Sponsors: - AG1 - use this link for a free one year's supply of vitamin D3 and K2 + 5 free travel packs - Zbiotics - use code BIGBOO for 15% off - Lume - use code BIGBOO for 15% off - Thrive Market - use this link for 30% off plus a free gift
This week there was more than Melanie and I could fit into a single episode - and I'm sort of sick about it because I had a whole Amy Grant / Jamie Golden story that I didn't have time to tell. NONETHELESS, we talk about an unfortunate series of events at the ranch, why Caroline is now Katniss Everdeen, and some of our favorite Olympic moments. I also share a very nerdy sociological theory that I learned about last week, and it's my turn for Five Favorites. I recorded in a hotel room this week - with my old microphone at that - so a thousand pardons for my sound quality as Melanie and I catch up on the last week of life (truth be told, I think my microphone stopped working about a third of the way through the episode, but who among us is surprised). We discuss Caroline's 21st birthday, the continued persistence of the raccoons next door to Mel, and why I'm in Atlanta all week long.  As you might expect, we dabble in a little bit of Olympics-related current events, and it's my turn for Five Favorites. It's an Olympics-palooza this week as Melanie and I talk about cheering for sports we already love as well as sports where we're still in a learning curve but no less enthusiastic. 'Tis the season for "U-S-A!," marveling at the French scenery, and scrutinizing the Olympic parents' heart rate monitors. We're here for every bit of it.  We also break down my family's weekend visit with Alex's roommate, and it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites.  Enjoy, everybody! - Join Us on Patreon - Our Amazon Shop Show Notes: - Jason Kelce's beret and dryfit red, white, and blue - Joni Taylor - Simone Biles' double pike vault - Snoop Dogg at the Olympics - Léon Marchand - Taryn Delanie Smith on IG - Suni Lee's story - Ilona Maher on TikTok - Ilona Maher on her BMI  - Reece's Medals - our SEC Media Days Patreon episode with Cole Cubelic - Cole's podcast, The Cube Show - Cole on Instagram - Sophie's newsletter - Sophie's book events for A Fine Sight to See - Southern Living's Cheese Slaw - Baleaf pleated tennis skirt - Hurricane classic 20-inch box fan - OneSkin topical face supplement - AE pool-to-party linen trousers - Allie+Bess gameday collection (20% off with code MELANIE20) - Melanie's guide to Patreon - full-o-helpful-hints Sponsors: - AG1 - use this link for a free one year's supply of vitamin D3 and K2 + 5 free travel packs - Mint Mobile - use this link to check out their service - Lume - use code BIGBOO for 15% off your first purhase - OSEA - use code BIGBOO for 10% off
It's episode 400 for our little podcast, so this week Melanie and I do a little reminiscing and reflecting. We're delighted as always to visit with our most frequent podcast guest, Travis Cottrell, and we also revisit some audio clips that feature some of our favorite podcast moments. Plus we catch up on what's been going on in San Antonio and Birmingham. On top of all that, I share an airport story that continues to warm my heart, and it's my turn for Five Favorites. Melanie and I recorded this week's episode late Tuesday night, and you will not be surprised to hear some significant audio issues in the back half (I left my headphones in Birmingham, I had to use my AirPods, and about 25 minutes in my AirPods microphone took over the recording part of the festivities). HOWEVER COMMA we have lots to share about our first couple of days in Dallas at Media Days (more to come on Patreon), and we're thrilled that we managed to record at all because, well, we're us. True story: we would have re-recorded if time had allowed. It's rough going, so thank you in advance for your patience.  We also talk about an unexpected Cowboy sighting, and it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites.  Hope you enjoy! - Join Us on Patreon - Our Amazon Shop Show Notes: - The Paul Finebaum Show (our segment starts around 1:53:00) - SEC Football Media Days - Maya Chia Pressed Serum - Clarins depuffing mask - Melanie's chin strap mask - Eminence Strawberry Rhubarb mask - Mi Cocina - Troy Aikman - our segment on Mac and Cube - SEC Storied: Saturday Night Lights - Laura Rutledge - Peter Burns - Cole Cubelic - Cole's podcast (chock-full-o-preseason-football-gold) - Paul Finebaum - The Perfect Couple by Elin Hilderbrand - CRZ yoga high waisted athletic shorts - Amazon flat front men's chino shorts - Maya Chia The Refresh Mint exfoliating moisture mask - Nordstrom Moonlight Eco knit pajamas - Upon Waking by Jackie Hill Perry Sponsors: - AG1 - use this link for a free year's supply of vitamins D1 and K2 plus five free travel packs - Stamps - use code BIGBOO for free postage - Thrive Causemetics - use this link for 10% off your first order - Lume - use code BIGBOO for 15% off
Melanie and I were due for a catch-up when we recorded this week's episode, so we talk about what we did on the 4th of July, my latest Pilates adventures, and Melanie's commitment to watching The Chosen. I also share a run-down of the last few books I've read - because apparently reading is my job now. Well, IT HAS BEEN A WEEK for the Aggies. Melanie and I share some of our thoughts about the very unfortunate set of circumstances surrounding the departure of the A&M baseball coach, and we'll continue that discussion on Patreon. For some reason the show notes aren’t appearing - not sure if it’s Castbox or user error or BigBoo tech difficulties but I need the skincare links! So good!
