Melanie and I didn't intend to sound like we've given up this week, but we do talk about the frustrating state of empty nest cooking as well as our ability to remember detailed song lyrics from the 80s while having absolutely no idea where the scissors are. Plus, Melanie shares about her weekend in College Station, and I may or may not recite a classic Amy Grant song like it's a poem. We also discuss what we're looking for in the next fiction book we read (epic! sweeping! preferably in an air conditioned setting!), and it's my turn for Five Favorites. This week Melanie and I talk about how we're navigating the lull between college football and college basketball season, and we discuss P's newfound knowledge about face contouring and the Royal Family. Life comes at you fast.  I share about the writing progress I made over the weekend (will wonders never cease), Melanie has an update on her reading progress, and we also discuss some spring fashion trends that are on the way. On this episode Melanie and I talk about the college football National Championship, and one thing we for sure agree on is that Nick Saban is a delight and a joy as a commentator. We share some details from our respective weekends, and we spend a good bit of time breaking down my unwavering affection for Amy Grant (I have been in my feels about AG ever since I watched the Kennedy Center Honors a couple of weeks ago).  Also, Melanie updates us on what she's been reading, and it's my turn for Five Favorites. We recorded later than usual this week because I've been out of town, and we were moving through a series of New Year-adjacent recaps (the latest with the Shankles, State's bowl game, the playoff games, a few I See Yous) when Melanie saw some breaking news about A&M's new offensive coordinator. To paraphrase Ross Gellar, it was a bit of a pivot because Melanie needed to do some serious real-time processing. As you will hear. No worries, however. Melanie rallies to share her Five Favorites, and in the most exciting development ever, I share a new pot roast recipe I hope to try.  The year is full of possibilities. :-)  Enjoy, y'all!  - Join Us on Patreon  - Our Amazon Shop Show Notes: - Georgia / Ohio State game - Michigan / TCU - State / Illinois in the Reliaquest Bowl - Charley's Steakhouse in Tampa - National Anthem at Reliaquest Bowl - Damar Hamlin - Scott Van Pelt and Ryan Clark - June's Journey - A&M's new offensive coordinator - pot roast recipe from TikTok - Lilo's Salad - Bentoben phone case - oversized half zip pullover - Elevated craft cocktail shaker - Cheese Gal on Instagram - Trader Joe's Super Seedy Cheese Snack Bites - Free People Summer Daydream buttondown Sponsors: - Green Chef (use code BIGBOO60 to get 60% off plus free shipping) - Olive and June (use this link for 25% off your first mani system) - Helix (use this link for up to $200 off all mattresses and two free pillows) - Thrive Causemetics (use this link for 15% off your first order)

There's nothing new here...it's the episode that just came out, except this time I deleted the unnecessary ad music that I mistakenly left in the original episode. Please know that you can continue to count on us for podcasting excellence. :-)  Happy New Year!
This week Melanie and I talk through a wrap-up of our Christmas festivities, and we even (unexpectedly) discuss some low-level goals for 2023. We also talk about our current writing frustrations, and I share about an exciting new habit I developed in 2022. Except that it's not really exciting. But yay for new habits! You can rest assured that we break down everything we've watched this past week - we have definitely put in some time in front of the television - and it's my turn for Five Favorites. The kids are home this week, so naturally Melanie and I talk about that on this episode, along with our still-tentative Christmas cooking plans. We reflect on Mike Leach's legacy in the college football coaching world, and we even get into an unexpected discussion about NIL and the transfer portal before I tell Mel about an exciting new (to us, at least) Cracker Barrel to-go option. We understand that this may create a bit of topic-related whiplash. Also, I share about a TV show I binged with some authority this past weekend, and it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites.   - Join Us on Patreon  - Our Amazon Shop - Big Boo 2022 Holiday Gift Guide Show Notes: - "Back Home Baller" - Violent Night - Mike Leach - 1961-2022 - Dave Emerick's Twitter - Zach Arnett - Reliaquest Bowl - Cracker Barrel's delightful online ordering options - outdoor faucet covers (WINTER WEATHER ALERT) :-)  - cheese enchildas recipe (from Southern Living) - The White Lotus season 2 (NOT FOR THE CHILDREN - and maybe not for some adults) on HBOMax - Emily in Paris season 3 on Netflix - Wednesday on Netflix - Harry & Meghan on Netflix - No Boundaries cozy men's hoodie - Riddle Oil - Janet Hill puzzle - waffle joggers - ruched faux rabbit fur throw blanket Sponsors: - StoryWorth (use this link for $10 off your first purchase) - OSEA (use promo code BIGBOO for 10% off your first order) - Hello Fresh (use promo code BIGBOO18 for 18 free meal plus free shipping) - Thrive Causemetics (use this link to get up to 45% off their bestselling products when you purchase select holiday sets)
As you can imagine, Melanie and I were heartbroken to hear about Coach Mike Leach's death earlier this week. We actually recorded this episode before he passed away, so we talk about a lot of the stuff you might expect: Melanie's hunting wardrobe, the trip that David and I took last week, A&M's continued search for an offensive coordinator, and our thoughts about the college kids coming home for Christmas break. All fun things - and it's my turn for Five Favorites. There's also a special little something at the very end.  Let's continue to pray for the Leach family - as well as for the Mississippi State football team and coaches. Coach Leach was a treasure, and we lost him way too soon.  - Join Us on Patreon  - Our Amazon Shop - Big Boo 2022 Holiday Gift Guide Show Notes: - Mike Leach - Viking Cruises - Monoprix (this is where Jamie and I hit the beauty product gold mine) - La Sagrada Familia - Free People long Ruby jacket - Pilcro longline plaid buttondown - Smart Travel inflatable lumbar pillow - Diva room spray - Wondershop gift wrap at Target - Our podcast episode with Coach Leach Sponsors: - Thrive Market (use this link for 30% off and a $60 gift when you join) - Helix (use this link for up to $200 off your mattress order and two free pillows) - Munk Pack (use code BIGBOO at checkout for 20% off your purchase) - Noom (use this link to sign up for your trial)
Melanie and I are so happy that our friend Travis Cottrell (aka FryDaddy) is joining us on this week's episode. Travis is a gifted worship leader, singer, musician, and songwriter who just so happens to love the Christmas season a lot. Like, A LOT A LOT. So when Mel and I talked about recording an episode that functions almost like a Christmas special (an extravaganza, if you will), asking Travis to join us was a no-brainer. His Neil Diamond impression alone is worth the (super free) price of admission. So. We're going to talk about the latest with Travis' family, we're going to talk about Christmas memories, we're going to talk about Christmas food, and we're going to talk about Christmas music. Plus, it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites. See? AN EXTRAVAGANZA. We honestly weren't sure how we were going to make this episode happen because Melanie has a pretty significant case of laryngitis this week. As in she had zero voice on Sunday and Monday - which is problematic in terms of recording a podcast episode. However, on Tuesday morning she said she could power through, and that is exactly what she did. As a result, you're about to hear the raspiest account of the Texas A&M / LSU game you could possibly imagine - and the raspiest reactions to my thoughts about the State / Ole Miss game. WON'T HE DO IT. We also discuss season 5 of The Crown, we break down our respective Thanksgivings, and it's my turn for Five Favorites.  Enjoy, y'all!  - Join Us on Patreon  - Our Amazon Shop - Big Boo 2022 Holiday Gift Guide Show Notes: - Starbucks medicine ball - Melanie's new organic cough syrup - Mississippi State vs. Ole Miss - Texas A&M vs. LSU - Moose Muhammad's one-handed catch - The Crown on Netflix - Aerie wide leg sweatpants - Travel compression bags - Thymes laundry detergent in Frasier Fir - Tillamook cream cheese - Very Veggie  - the laundry hamper champion Sponsors: - Babbel (use this link for up to 55% off) - Pair (use this link for 20% off) - Munk Pack (use code BIGBOO for 20% off) - iwi life (use code BIGBOO22 for 30% off your first purchase)
This week Melanie catches us up on why she went to College Station but opted to excuse herself from the actual football game, and she shares some A&M / Reveille history. We talk through a few other football-related items before we move into Thanksgiving prep and plans, so be sure to look in the show notes for the recipes we mention. 'Tis the season, after all. We also discuss Christmas movies as well as the latest on Melanie's dream of a more neutral Christmas tree - and it's her turn for Five Favorites. Guess what, everyone? IT'S BASKETBALL SEASON NOW. As you can imagine, that is a source of comfort and hope for Melanie and me after our teams had a not-great football weekend. We talk about all the not-great stuff, along with Side Eyes and I See Yous. And much to our delight, this week has given us the Yellowstone season 5 premier, so we break down the non-spoiler-y latest with the Duttons - as well as digging into some other things we've been watching and reading. We also talk through Melanie's (general) reactions to our Patreon book club book (spoiler alert: we both ADORE IT), and it's my turn for Five Favorites. This episode is longer than usual because of our Gift Guide, but you can rest assured that Melanie and I break down all the important football developments before we get into anything else. After all, we want the podcast to be a safe place for Mel as she processes her football grief and disillusionment. Personally I think she's holding up beautifully. Just like last week, the Gift Guide links are in a Google doc (link below), and it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites. Well, the Aggies didn't win, but just as she predicted, Melanie enjoyed the snacks and the company at this past weekend's Texas A&M / Ole Miss game. We talk about both of those things, as well as Caroline's game day overalls and the pre-game festivities. Then, in news unrelated to football, we discuss the quality time D and I have had with Alex's roommate and why I may open a bed and breakfast for sick college students.  Also, this week marks the kick-off of our annual Holiday Gift Guide - we're talking about gift ideas for teenage boys and teenage girls - and it's my turn for Five Favorites. - Join Us on Patreon  - Our Amazon Shop Show Notes: - Conner Weigman - A&M Corps - Dr. Bowen Loftin - a possum at Kyle Field - 20th Century Fox theme song fail - Oklahoma St. / Kansas St.  - TCU - Caroline's overalls - Big Boo Gift Guide 2022 Google Doc - Pilcro oversized corduroy jacket - Flipz Stuff'd chocolate / peanut butter - Aerie waffle long sleeve t-shirt - Athleta Savannah joggers - The Road Back to You by Ian Morgan Cron and Suzanne Stabile Sponsors: - Hiya (use this link for 50% off your first order) - iwi (use code BIGBOO22 for 30% off your first purchase) - KiwiCo (use this code to get your first month free) - Babbel (use this link for up to 55% off your subscription)
Over the years Melanie and I have had a lot of conversations about college football, but I don't think she has ever been as fired up about her Aggies as she is this week. That is to say: our friend is a smidge angry. We process some of that anger before we move into Side Eyes and I See Yous, and then we do a little catch-up on the non-football things that have happened this past week. You may pick up on the fact that non-football life has been a much more consistent source of joy. We also do a quick summary of what we've been reading / watching / listening to, we marvel at so many things related to Taylor Swift, and it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites. This past weekend Melanie and I got to experience watching college football together - we were in Texas with our friend Retha - and while we didn't get to see as many games as we normally do, we did behold the wonder of the best college football game in some time: Alabama vs. Tennessee. Naturally we talk about it - along with this week's smaller-than-usual collection of Side Eyes and I See Yous. We also recap our time in Brenham / College Station, along with a couple of books I've recently read and really enjoyed. Plus, it's my turn for Five Favorites. This week Melanie and I find ourselves on opposite ends of football fortune, so you're going to hear a lot of sympathizing, a lot of commiserating, and a better than average amount of celebrating. Plus, as you might expect, we offer our perhaps misguided but nonetheless enthusiastic analysis of the last play of the A&M / Alabama game. WE HAVE SOME THOUGHTS. There's also a good bit of discussion about my hair, a recap of Alex's time home during fall break, and it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites. Well, the Bulldogs and the Aggies played football this past weekend, and as you can imagine, only one of us is pleased with the outcome. We break down all of our respective feelings about the game (y'all may want to keep Melanie in your prayers) before we move into our weekly Side Eyes and I See Yous.  We also discuss my recent trip to the northeast, I offer some book recommendations, and it's my turn for Five Favorites. It was a victorious football weekend for the Aggies and the Bulldogs, so of course Melanie and I offer our perspectives on both our teams. Melanie also shares her relief that she can put another year of the Arkansas / A&M rivalry behind her, and we both have some side eyes and I see yous. We share some collective surprise that there's so much good TV to look forward to (fall is going to be very kind to us in that regard), and Melanie breaks down her latest scent adventures with her Pura (these are exciting adventures indeed at our current stage of life). The football horizon is a bit brighter this week for Melanie and her Aggies, and even though that was not the case for my Bulldogs and me (congrats, LSU), Mel and I  talk about some weekend events that brought us all manner of joy. We also unexpectedly shifted into a conversation about which SEC fans are mostly likely to slide into our DMs after a win (and which ones rarely say anything), so if you feel like we have stepped on your toes a little bit, please know that we love you all.  We both share some Side Eyes, I have an exciting TV update (well, it was exciting for me personally, but I doubt anyone else really cares), and it's my turn for Five Favorites.  Enjoy, y'all!  - Our Amazon Shop - Join Us on Patreon Show Notes: - App State Gameday signs - Wooo Pig Sooie - Chuy's - A&M Corps of Cadets - Billy Ivey's The Sea Between Us - The Magnificent Lives of Marjorie Post by Allison Pataki - Better Call Saul - H&M oversized shirt dress - R&Co Rodeo Star thickening foam - Jones Road The Best Eyeshadow (I ordered cream and ash) - Club Pilates - Mememe embellished button down tunic Sponsors: - Thrive Causemetics (use this link for 15% off your first order) - Rothy's (use this link for $20 off your first purchase) - Storyworth (use this link for $10 off your first purchase) - Hello Fresh (use promo code BIGBOO65 for 65% off plus free shipping)

For some reason the show notes aren’t appearing - not sure if it’s Castbox or user error or BigBoo tech difficulties but I need the skincare links! So good!
