This week we talk about the Aggies' run in the SEC baseball tournament, we discuss jewelry and cosmetics organization, and we review the obscene quantity of television we've consumed since our last episode. I think you'll agree that our joy is palpable (she says, a little sarcastically). Also, we have a long conversation about tomatoes, and it's my turn for Five Favorites, which is when you'll hear me work harder than I ever have to convince Melanie that one of my favorites really is cute.  Enjoy, everybody!  - Join Us on Patreon  - Our Amazon Shop - 2023 Graduation Gift Guide Show Notes: - Aggies v. This week Melanie tells us all about her family trip to Jackson Hole, and we learn why P now considers himself a bit of a mountain ranger. I share details about the best! shopping! trip! ever! with our friend Jamie Golden, and of course we have to break down the latest in SEC baseball. Spoiler alert: my Bulldogs did not make it to Hoover. That being said, I still recap night one of the SEC baseball tournament, and it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites. This week Melanie shares her challenges with packing and getting organized for her family's Jackson Hole trip, and she explains a disagreement between her and P about hiking attire. I use the word "fantastic" about 82 times as I talk about a movie I recently watched and loved, and both of us lament the inconsistencies of this year's college baseball season.  We also break down some of our ongoing struggles with organization, and it's my turn for Five Favorites. This week Melanie shares a history lesson about Cinco de Mayo that I'm embarrassed I didn't know, I talk about a book that I absolutely loved, and Melanie recaps her weekend in - get ready for it - College Station. Also, I cooked an actual meal for my family, so you'll hear about that too. If all that weren't enough (and it might not be enough, but please don't feel like you need to tell us if that's the case), we break down some viewing / reading goals for the immediate future, and it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites.  Hope you enjoy!  - Join Us on Patreon  - Our Amazon Shop - 2023 Graduation Gift Guide Show Notes: - photos of the coronation - The Royals in a Wes Anderson film - the King's swollen hands - the man sitting next to Andrew Lloyd Weber at the coronation - our Patreon episode with Elizabeth Passarella - the history of Cinco de Mayo - Ree's beef enchiladas - Ninfa's green sauce - Orleans candle - use code MELANIE15 - Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfeld - Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus - The Night Agent on Netflix (the show Melanie couldn't remember) - The Diplomat on Netflix - Welcome to Wrexham on Hulu - Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano - Little Women by Louisa May Alcott - The Sum of It All - Ed Sheeran docuseries on Disney+ - Tula J in Trussville, Alabama - FOLEX spot cleaner - linen pull-on shorts (and matching button-up shirt) - Martha wide leg jeans - compression packing cubes - A New Day linen vest Sponsors: - Olive and June (use this link for 20% off your first mani system) - Hello Fresh (use code BIGBOO16 for 16 free meals and free shipping) - Noom (use this link to sign up for your trial) - OSEA (use code BIGBOO for 10% off sitewide)
This week Melanie shares some of P's suggestions for container planting, and I recap how I spent most of this past weekend painting Alex's bathroom. Plus, we discuss some early college football predictions and break down everything we've been reading lately - along with a movie that Melanie recently saw and loved.  I apparently had an issue with my microphone gain being turned up way too high, so prepare yourself for some really high quality audio (it's fine to roll your eyes, and thank you for your continued patience with our sound challenges). You're probably aware of this, but Melanie went to the Taylor Swift concert this past Sunday, so on this (super-sized) episode we spend a significant amount of time on a TSwift recap. AS WE SHOULD. We also talk about a spaghetti dinner for Alex's buddies, a friend's 40th birthday party, and my quick weekend trip to Mississippi. On top of all that, 'tis the season for our 2023 Graduation Gift Guide, and it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites. On this episode Melanie shares the joys of cleaning out Caroline's closet, and I share how I tried to break date night dining protocol in a way that I told myself was subtle even though it wasn't subtle at all. We also talk about an exciting development in Melanie's Taylor Swift concert plans, and I confess that I had to invest in a heating pad. Life is a series of highs and lows, right? You might be surprised by our thoughts on the 80's fashion influences we're seeing in stores (here's a hint: we're fans), and it's my turn for Five Favorites. We don't want to oversell the excitement of this episode, but this week Melanie shares an update about her ice maker (we say the word "coils" approximately 74 times), and I talk about a plastic table that has really filled the no-more-dining-room gap in our house. We also discuss our Easter weekends. On top of all that, we discuss some recent enjoyable moments in entertainment (I just finished a book and a show that I loved), and it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites.  - Join Us on Patreon  - Our Amazon Shop - Big Boo Live in Bryan / College Station on November 9, 2023 - wait list for tickets Show Notes: - Sam Bennett - the fancy dining table - the fancy dining chairs - Smartless episode with Ben Affleck - I Have Some Questions for You by Rebecca Makkai - Daisy Jones & the Six on Amazon Prime - Homecoming by Kate Morton - chili lime Sun Chips - Levi's 501 mid-thigh shorts - Allie + Bess Keelin necklace (20% off with code MELANIE20) - The Collection blood orange candle - Birkenstock Arizona chunky platforms Sponsors: - OSEA (use code BIGBOO for 10% off your first order) - Noom - HoldOn (use code BIGBOO for 20% off your order) - Lume (use code BIGBOO for $5 off a starter pack)
On this week's episode Melanie and I discuss our weekends (spoiler alert: Melanie went to College Station) along with my need for a tour / orientation at the currently-being-remodeled Target and Walmart by my house. We talk through my initial reactions to Daisy Jones & the Six (spoiler alert: I LOVE) and we share some thoughts about the NCAA women's basketball national championship game. This week I have feelings about navigation systems, Melanie has feelings about Daisy Jones & the Six, and we both have feelings about college baseball. We also break down Melanie's time in Dallas along with my time in Augusta, and it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites. Full disclosure: I was at what you might refer to as a LOW EBB when Melanie and I recorded this episode. After the tragedies of the last few days, I felt like I mostly wanted to just get back in the bed. Melanie very sweetly suggested that we wait to record on Tuesday, but ultimately we decided to push through.   Life can be heavy and hard. We continue to trust in the One who holds. This week Melanie and I share our March Madness reactions (personally it has not been our finest basketball hour), Melanie talks about the Ben Rector concert, and I pass along some interesting (to me, at least) information I learned on TikTok.  We also discuss a very exciting skirt, Melanie updates us on Spring Break '23, and it's my turn for Five Favorites. Well, it's March Madness, and as you will hear in this episode, Melanie is mad about her Aggies being a 7-seed in the tournament. There may be a bit of a rant, which means I laugh a whole bunch. We also answer a listener's question about what kinds of sports fans we are (here's a hint: animated), we discuss our weekends with our college kids, and we talk through some recent fun finds at Trader Joe's.  If you listen to the intro of the episode, you'll hear some exciting (for us, at least) save-the-date news, and it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites.  - Join Us on Patreon  - Our Amazon Shop Show Notes: - men's NCAA bracket - women's NCAA bracket - A&M is a 7 seed - Buzz Williams reacts to bracket - the curse of the 5 seeds - Altras - Ben Rector - Outer Banks - Trader Joe's Unexpected Cheddar cheese spread - Trader Joe's multigrain crackers - Trader Joe's Scalloped Potato Chips with Five Cheeses - Trader Joe's Cowboy Caviar - Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Bark with almond, pretzel, and sea salt - Daisy Jones & the Six TV show - Ouida sunglasses - Someone Else's Shoes by Jojo Moyes - Benefit Fluff Up brow wax - artificial fiddle leaf fig plant - Creative hair brush / Mason Pearson dupe - Hoka Clifton 9 - Daisy Jones & the Six Amazon fashion  Sponsors: - Noom (use this link to sign up for your trial) - Thrive Market (use this link for 30% off your first order and a free $60 gift) - OSEA Malibu (use code BIGBOO for 10% off your first order) - Third Love (use this link for 20% off your first order)
It's good-times-a-plenty this week as Melanie and I recap her trip to College Station, my trip to Slidell, Louisiana, and that time I cooked for 27 of Alex's closest friends. We also break down our thoughts about a true crime documentary we both watched recently, and I explain why I pondered my personal need for a redemptive biscuit this past Saturday afternoon. On this episode Melanie and I discuss my trip to Starkville for the State / A&M basketball game (it was a dandy, it was) and our tendencies to arrive VERY early to sporting events. Plus, Melanie went to a Nelly concert at the rodeo, and I have an exciting Target remodeling update. Although "exciting" might be a really generous term. This is apparently an episode where Melanie and I feel compelled to share our enthusiasm about all manner of things: basketball coaches, basketball uniforms, sunglasses, and the oranges that have absolutely rocked my world. This week Melanie and I discuss what we talk about before we actually start recording each week's episode (my mama would say that it's when we really get into the "nitty gritty"), how P has absolutely been influenced in terms of how he hosts a guys' weekend, and how legit Texas tacos have made their way to Birmingham. You will not be surprised that we also spend a good deal of time focusing on the latest in college basketball because Joe Lunardi is apparently the boss of us right now. Melanie and I didn't intend to sound like we've given up this week, but we do talk about the frustrating state of empty nest cooking as well as our ability to remember detailed song lyrics from the 80s while having absolutely no idea where the scissors are. Plus, Melanie shares about her weekend in College Station, and I may or may not recite a classic Amy Grant song like it's a poem. For some reason the show notes aren’t appearing - not sure if it’s Castbox or user error or BigBoo tech difficulties but I need the skincare links! So good!
