Well, it's March Madness, and as you will hear in this episode, Melanie is mad about her Aggies being a 7-seed in the tournament. There may be a bit of a rant, which means I laugh a whole bunch. We also answer a listener's question about what kinds of sports fans we are (here's a hint: animated), we discuss our weekends with our college kids, and we talk through some recent fun finds at Trader Joe's.  If you listen to the intro of the episode, you'll hear some exciting (for us, at least) save-the-date news, and it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites.  - Join Us on Patreon  - Our Amazon Shop Show Notes: - men's NCAA bracket - women's NCAA bracket - A&M is a 7 seed - Buzz Williams reacts to bracket - the curse of the 5 seeds - Altras - Ben Rector - Outer Banks - Trader Joe's Unexpected Cheddar cheese spread - Trader Joe's multigrain crackers - Trader Joe's Scalloped Potato Chips with Five Cheeses - Trader Joe's Cowboy Caviar - Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Bark with almond, pretzel, and sea salt - Daisy Jones & the Six TV show - Ouida sunglasses - Someone Else's Shoes by Jojo Moyes - Benefit Fluff Up brow wax - artificial fiddle leaf fig plant - Creative hair brush / Mason Pearson dupe - Hoka Clifton 9 - Daisy Jones & the Six Amazon fashion  Sponsors: - Noom (use this link to sign up for your trial) - Thrive Market (use this link for 30% off your first order and a free $60 gift) - OSEA Malibu (use code BIGBOO for 10% off your first order) - Third Love (use this link for 20% off your first order)
It's good-times-a-plenty this week as Melanie and I recap her trip to College Station, my trip to Slidell, Louisiana, and that time I cooked for 27 of Alex's closest friends. We also break down our thoughts about a true crime documentary we both watched recently, and I explain why I pondered my personal need for a redemptive biscuit this past Saturday afternoon. Plus, Melanie shares what she's loving about a new TV show, and it's my turn for Five Favorites. On this episode Melanie and I discuss my trip to Starkville for the State / A&M basketball game (it was a dandy, it was) and our tendencies to arrive VERY early to sporting events. Plus, Melanie went to a Nelly concert at the rodeo, and I have an exciting Target remodeling update. Although "exciting" might be a really generous term. We also do a quick reading check-in, Melanie shares her reaction to her new oh-so-70s sunglasses, and it's my turn for Five Favorites. This is apparently an episode where Melanie and I feel compelled to share our enthusiasm about all manner of things: basketball coaches, basketball uniforms, sunglasses, and the oranges that have absolutely rocked my world. Plus, Melanie talks about her time at the rodeo in San Antonio and I do a small bit of whining about the lack of A/C at the State / Kentucky game. We also discuss the new books that are on our To Read piles, and it's my turn for Five Favorites. This week Melanie and I discuss what we talk about before we actually start recording each week's episode (my mama would say that it's when we really get into the "nitty gritty"), how P has absolutely been influenced in terms of how he hosts a guys' weekend, and how legit Texas tacos have made their way to Birmingham. You will not be surprised that we also spend a good deal of time focusing on the latest in college basketball because Joe Lunardi is apparently the boss of us right now. We have lo, another book update because I have started reading the book about the fairies (who am I?), and it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites. Listen - you want hard-hitting issues? Melanie and I are here to deliver them this week. We discuss plumbing problems at my house, the situation with basements in Alabama and Texas, my run-in with a stomach bug, and our continued affection for this particular college basketball season. BREAKING NEWS, right?  We also share an update on our continued reading progress (yay for books!), Melanie details why it's so difficult to walk her dogs, and it's my turn for Five Favorites.  Hope y'all enjoy!  - Join Us on Patreon  - Our Amazon Shop Show Notes: - BeneRx (this is hands-down our favorite muscle pain reliever) - Joe Lunardi Bracketology - Buzz Williams - Gwyneth Paltrow's closet archive - SNL Hollywood skit - Poker Face - A Court of Thorns & Roses by Sarah Maas - A Court of Mist & Fury by Sarah Maas - Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister - "Movie Star" by Jessica Simpson - Mouth to Mouth by Antoine Wilson - The Blue Parakeet by Scot McKnight - Georgie, All Along by Kate Clayborn - Meant to Be by Emily Giffin - No Angel by Penny Vincenzi - Orvis Quilted Snap Sweatshirt - Harry's Fig body wash - Creamy Chicken Noodle Soup (I did 7 cups of chicken stock and half a package of wide egg noodles) - Kitsch satin pillowcase - Summersalt easy high-waist flares Sponsors: - Helix (use this link for up to $200 off your mattress purchase and 2 free pillows) - Green Chef (use code BIGBOO60 for 60% off plus free shipping) - Rothy's (use this link for $20 off your first purchase) - OSEA Malibu (use code BIGBOO for 10% off)
If you're a fan of variety, this episode should be right up your podcast alley. Melanie and I discuss foods we don't like right now, foods we do like, NFL league championship games, and a potential new slogan for college basketball. We also dig into our feelings about books that take place in lands that don't exist, we evaluate our current writing set-ups / chair needs, and Melanie shares her Five Favorites. Melanie and I didn't intend to sound like we've given up this week, but we do talk about the frustrating state of empty nest cooking as well as our ability to remember detailed song lyrics from the 80s while having absolutely no idea where the scissors are. Plus, Melanie shares about her weekend in College Station, and I may or may not recite a classic Amy Grant song like it's a poem. We also discuss what we're looking for in the next fiction book we read (epic! sweeping! preferably in an air conditioned setting!), and it's my turn for Five Favorites. This week Melanie and I talk about how we're navigating the lull between college football and college basketball season, and we discuss P's newfound knowledge about face contouring and the Royal Family. Life comes at you fast.  I share about the writing progress I made over the weekend (will wonders never cease), Melanie has an update on her reading progress, and we also discuss some spring fashion trends that are on the way. On this episode Melanie and I talk about the college football National Championship, and one thing we for sure agree on is that Nick Saban is a delight and a joy as a commentator. We share some details from our respective weekends, and we spend a good bit of time breaking down my unwavering affection for Amy Grant (I have been in my feels about AG ever since I watched the Kennedy Center Honors a couple of weeks ago).  Also, Melanie updates us on what she's been reading, and it's my turn for Five Favorites. We recorded later than usual this week because I've been out of town, and we were moving through a series of New Year-adjacent recaps (the latest with the Shankles, State's bowl game, the playoff games, a few I See Yous) when Melanie saw some breaking news about A&M's new offensive coordinator. To paraphrase Ross Gellar, it was a bit of a pivot because Melanie needed to do some serious real-time processing. As you will hear. No worries, however. Melanie rallies to share her Five Favorites, and in the most exciting development ever, I share a new pot roast recipe I hope to try.  The year is full of possibilities. :-)  Enjoy, y'all!  - Join Us on Patreon  - Our Amazon Shop Show Notes: - Georgia / Ohio State game - Michigan / TCU - State / Illinois in the Reliaquest Bowl - Charley's Steakhouse in Tampa - National Anthem at Reliaquest Bowl - Damar Hamlin - Scott Van Pelt and Ryan Clark - June's Journey - A&M's new offensive coordinator - pot roast recipe from TikTok - Lilo's Salad - Bentoben phone case - oversized half zip pullover - Elevated craft cocktail shaker - Cheese Gal on Instagram - Trader Joe's Super Seedy Cheese Snack Bites - Free People Summer Daydream buttondown Sponsors: - Green Chef (use code BIGBOO60 to get 60% off plus free shipping) - Olive and June (use this link for 25% off your first mani system) - Helix (use this link for up to $200 off all mattresses and two free pillows) - Thrive Causemetics (use this link for 15% off your first order)

There's nothing new here...it's the episode that just came out, except this time I deleted the unnecessary ad music that I mistakenly left in the original episode. Please know that you can continue to count on us for podcasting excellence. :-)  Happy New Year!
This week Melanie and I talk through a wrap-up of our Christmas festivities, and we even (unexpectedly) discuss some low-level goals for 2023. We also talk about our current writing frustrations, and I share about an exciting new habit I developed in 2022. Except that it's not really exciting. But yay for new habits! You can rest assured that we break down everything we've watched this past week - we have definitely put in some time in front of the television - and it's my turn for Five Favorites. The kids are home this week, so naturally Melanie and I talk about that on this episode, along with our still-tentative Christmas cooking plans. We reflect on Mike Leach's legacy in the college football coaching world, and we even get into an unexpected discussion about NIL and the transfer portal before I tell Mel about an exciting new (to us, at least) Cracker Barrel to-go option. We understand that this may create a bit of topic-related whiplash. Also, I share about a TV show I binged with some authority this past weekend, and it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites.   - Join Us on Patreon  - Our Amazon Shop - Big Boo 2022 Holiday Gift Guide Show Notes: - "Back Home Baller" - Violent Night - Mike Leach - 1961-2022 - Dave Emerick's Twitter - Zach Arnett - Reliaquest Bowl - Cracker Barrel's delightful online ordering options - outdoor faucet covers (WINTER WEATHER ALERT) :-)  - cheese enchildas recipe (from Southern Living) - The White Lotus season 2 (NOT FOR THE CHILDREN - and maybe not for some adults) on HBOMax - Emily in Paris season 3 on Netflix - Wednesday on Netflix - Harry & Meghan on Netflix - No Boundaries cozy men's hoodie - Riddle Oil - Janet Hill puzzle - waffle joggers - ruched faux rabbit fur throw blanket Sponsors: - StoryWorth (use this link for $10 off your first purchase) - OSEA (use promo code BIGBOO for 10% off your first order) - Hello Fresh (use promo code BIGBOO18 for 18 free meal plus free shipping) - Thrive Causemetics (use this link to get up to 45% off their bestselling products when you purchase select holiday sets)
As you can imagine, Melanie and I were heartbroken to hear about Coach Mike Leach's death earlier this week. We actually recorded this episode before he passed away, so we talk about a lot of the stuff you might expect: Melanie's hunting wardrobe, the trip that David and I took last week, A&M's continued search for an offensive coordinator, and our thoughts about the college kids coming home for Christmas break. All fun things - and it's my turn for Five Favorites. There's also a special little something at the very end.  Let's continue to pray for the Leach family - as well as for the Mississippi State football team and coaches. Coach Leach was a treasure, and we lost him way too soon.  - Join Us on Patreon  - Our Amazon Shop - Big Boo 2022 Holiday Gift Guide Show Notes: - Mike Leach - Viking Cruises - Monoprix (this is where Jamie and I hit the beauty product gold mine) - La Sagrada Familia - Free People long Ruby jacket - Pilcro longline plaid buttondown - Smart Travel inflatable lumbar pillow - Diva room spray - Wondershop gift wrap at Target - Our podcast episode with Coach Leach Sponsors: - Thrive Market (use this link for 30% off and a $60 gift when you join) - Helix (use this link for up to $200 off your mattress order and two free pillows) - Munk Pack (use code BIGBOO at checkout for 20% off your purchase) - Noom (use this link to sign up for your trial)
Melanie and I are so happy that our friend Travis Cottrell (aka FryDaddy) is joining us on this week's episode. Travis is a gifted worship leader, singer, musician, and songwriter who just so happens to love the Christmas season a lot. Like, A LOT A LOT. So when Mel and I talked about recording an episode that functions almost like a Christmas special (an extravaganza, if you will), asking Travis to join us was a no-brainer. His Neil Diamond impression alone is worth the (super free) price of admission. So. We're going to talk about the latest with Travis' family, we're going to talk about Christmas memories, we're going to talk about Christmas food, and we're going to talk about Christmas music. Plus, it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites. See? AN EXTRAVAGANZA. We honestly weren't sure how we were going to make this episode happen because Melanie has a pretty significant case of laryngitis this week. As in she had zero voice on Sunday and Monday - which is problematic in terms of recording a podcast episode. However, on Tuesday morning she said she could power through, and that is exactly what she did. As a result, you're about to hear the raspiest account of the Texas A&M / LSU game you could possibly imagine - and the raspiest reactions to my thoughts about the State / Ole Miss game. WON'T HE DO IT. We also discuss season 5 of The Crown, we break down our respective Thanksgivings, and it's my turn for Five Favorites.  Enjoy, y'all!  - Join Us on Patreon  - Our Amazon Shop - Big Boo 2022 Holiday Gift Guide Show Notes: - Starbucks medicine ball - Melanie's new organic cough syrup - Mississippi State vs. Ole Miss - Texas A&M vs. LSU - Moose Muhammad's one-handed catch - The Crown on Netflix - Aerie wide leg sweatpants - Travel compression bags - Thymes laundry detergent in Frasier Fir - Tillamook cream cheese - Very Veggie  - the laundry hamper champion Sponsors: - Babbel (use this link for up to 55% off) - Pair (use this link for 20% off) - Munk Pack (use code BIGBOO for 20% off) - iwi life (use code BIGBOO22 for 30% off your first purchase)
This week Melanie catches us up on why she went to College Station but opted to excuse herself from the actual football game, and she shares some A&M / Reveille history. We talk through a few other football-related items before we move into Thanksgiving prep and plans, so be sure to look in the show notes for the recipes we mention. 'Tis the season, after all. We also discuss Christmas movies as well as the latest on Melanie's dream of a more neutral Christmas tree - and it's her turn for Five Favorites. Guess what, everyone? IT'S BASKETBALL SEASON NOW. As you can imagine, that is a source of comfort and hope for Melanie and me after our teams had a not-great football weekend. We talk about all the not-great stuff, along with Side Eyes and I See Yous. And much to our delight, this week has given us the Yellowstone season 5 premier, so we break down the non-spoiler-y latest with the Duttons - as well as digging into some other things we've been watching and reading. We also talk through Melanie's (general) reactions to our Patreon book club book (spoiler alert: we both ADORE IT), and it's my turn for Five Favorites. This episode is longer than usual because of our Gift Guide, but you can rest assured that Melanie and I break down all the important football developments before we get into anything else. After all, we want the podcast to be a safe place for Mel as she processes her football grief and disillusionment. Personally I think she's holding up beautifully.
