As wives and moms, we get up every day and do so many things that can seem mundane or unimportant. We may look around and wonder how our actions could impact the culture for the good. Today Professor Pearcey shares many of the wonderful, statistically verifiable, benefits associated with ordering our lives and families according to God’s Word. Nancy Pearcey is the author of The Toxic War on Masculinity: How Christianity Reconciles the Sexes, as well as Love Thy Body, The Soul of Science, Saving Leonardo, Finding Truth, and Total Truth. She is a professor and scholar in residence at Houston Christian University. She has been quoted in The New Yorker and Newsweek highlighted as one of the five top women apologists by Christianity Today, and hailed in The Economist as "America's pre-eminent evangelical Protestant female intellectual."   Other resources mentioned in this episode: Link to podcast episode search bar Raising Boys to Men Book Raising Boys to Men Audiobook The Unhurried Homeschooler The Unhurried Homeschooler Audiobook CTC Math Voetberg Music Academy (Use discount code WILSON50 for 50% off during July!) I’m excited to be addressing the topic of screen time and teens! It’s sometimes challenging to navigate setting healthy boundaries with teens over screen time, so I hope today’s episode will give you the tools to work with your teen to establish lifelong healthy screen habits! Creating healthy screentime habits isn’t just about time management. As we will find out today, there is so much more to consider. The studies and data are in and something every parent should know.   Resources mentioned in this episode: Link to podcast episode search bar Raising Boys to Men Book Raising Boys to Men Audiobook The Unhurried Homeschooler The Unhurried Homeschooler Audiobook Voetberg Music Academy - Discount Code: WILSON50 CTC Math Our CPS Story The Excel Camp  College Alternative: Excel College Podcast Episode The Unhurried Homeschooler Unhurried Grace for a Mom’s Heart The Four-Hour School Day Subscribe to my monthly email and receive access to Unhurried Grace for a Mom's Heart: 31 Days in God's Word Places I am speaking in 2024 Ways to connect with Melanie at Screen Strong: ScreenStrong Site ScreenStrong Families (private FB Group) ScreenStrong Families Podcast
Moms often have questions about healthy screen time habits, so I decided to do 2 episodes on this topic. Today we will discuss healthy screen time habits for kids 0-12. In the next episode, we will cover healthy screen time habits for teens.  Creating healthy screentime habits isn’t just about time management. As we will find out today, there is much more to consider. You will not want to miss this one! It's bold! Find out: Why screentime is the opposite of what a child needs Why iPads are one of the worst inventions ever Why kids are experiencing anxiety as early as 8-10 yrs old (or younger) Why co-viewing is always best What happens to our kids' brains after 30 minutes on screens Should we use screen time as a reward? What are effective and meaningful rewards? Why keeping our kids off screens is not sheltering them Why it's easy to underestimate the amount of time our kids are actually spending on screens Is there a connection between easy access to screens and addiction? Is screentime a neutral activity? How do video games affect our kids' brains? Does the record level of kids with ADHD have anything to do with screens? I've been wanting to do this interview for a long time! I have so much respect for my sister-in-law and know that you will love what she has to share! Jolene has been married to my brother Frank for 32 years. She is the mom of 11 kids (ages 30-10) and mammie to 12 grandkids and she has been homeschooling for almost 3 decades. Culture teaches young adults that failure is fatal and that purpose is only found in fame, fortune, or power, but as believers, we know that is a complete lie. We want our kids to thrive by teaching them to own their purpose, serve others, build healthy relationships, and live resiliently in the real world, for the glory of God.  And that is what today’s college alternative strives for. The amount of negative and fearful news is constant. It’s virtually impossible to get away from it; if we are not careful, it can erode our faith. We serve a Savior who is the King of Heaven and earth, but why does our world often feel so out of control? Note: We will briefly touch on eschatology(study of the end times). When it comes to parenting, it’s such a comfort to know we can go to God and leave every hope and heartache we have at His feet and in His hands. According to analysis from The Washington Post, homeschooling has become the fastest-growing form of education in America. More and more parents are realizing that they can give their kids a great education and eliminate so many negatives that are part of the traditional school setting.  With that in mind, my dear friend, Monica Swanson joins me today to share her family’s journey of becoming homeschoolers! Families are like little churches. They are meant to be places of discipleship, worship, and rest— places where we can fine-tune the gifts God's given us so we can bless the world. They can be full of surprises and joy. But family life can also be heartbreaking and downright discouraging. Trained counselor and mother Melissa Hannigan knows how hard it is to cast and keep a vision of rich family life. How do we cultivate a family culture that's vibrant and encouraging—a refuge amidst life's storms? Listen in as Melissa also shares how the importance of this investment has hit home after losing her teen son less than a year ago. You sure caught my attention when you said your son was recently diagnosed with autism! my 13 year old daughter was diagnosed last week with autism and I've been searching high and low for whatever I can find to learn and see how to help her. I hope you'll share more about your journey and what you've been learning. I realize that every case is so different, but my daughter has become very aggressive, which has been hard on the whole family (we homeschool and have 5 kids). Would love any of your wisdom in this area!! sarah :)

Hi, you mentioned the libertarian homeschooling site but I couldn't find it in a search. Could you give me the exact address? Thanks so much, the couple episodes of yours I just listened to were very encouraging and brought me peace about getting started with my whole new homeschooling adventure!

God knew I needed these words of encouragement in the exact moment it was playing. Right after I started playing this episode, I received some surprising and overwhelming news, and to have this playing at the same exact time was like God was right there in the room with me, speaking directly to me, through you. 💜
