Karen Read's retrial began Tuesday with opening statements and witness testimony shared in the murder case of Boston police officer John O'Keefe. Prosecutors claimed that after a night of drinking, an emotional Read intentionally hit her boyfriend with her car and left him in the cold to die. Meanwhile, her defense claims that the investigation into O'Keefe's death was 'corrupted,' and that he did not die as a result of a vehicle collision.
John DePetro, host of the John DePetro Show, has been following the case closely. He joins from outside the courthouse to recap the dramatic witness testimonies heard this week.

In 1976, a young mother was abducted, raped, and tortured by a faceless attacker in Park Hills, KY. For the next 40 years, the survivor was haunted by the attack, until two detectives gave her case new life while investigating a cold case murder. Though the cases weren't ultimately related, they were both solved thanks to faith in God, law enforcement, and a determination to find answers.
Detective Coy Cox of the Boone County Sheriff's Office leads Kentucky's only full-time cold case investigative unit. He details his investigative work on the cases and explains how he was able to bring answers to two families, four decades later.

On Tuesday, jury selection began in the second trial of Karen Read, the 45-year-old woman accused of killing her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O'Keefe, in an alleged hit-and-run in January of 2022. Read's case was first tried in April of 2024, but ultimately ended in a mistrial due to a "starkly divided" hung jury. Now, one year later, choosing jury members a second time around may be more challenging due to the case's high profile.
Retired NYPD Inspector, Attorney, and FOX News Contributor Paul Mauro explains how Read's second murder trial could differ from the first, especially following evidence reexaminations and the prosecution bringing on a new, more experienced prosecutor.

Hope the one sidedness of these podcasts concerning this topic doesn't damage Emily's reputation in the long run . . .
Love your podcast but if you were to take a closer look I think you'll see your guest doesn't know what he's talking about.
Odd how this guy labels every "Special Agent" in this story as something like "outstanding", etc . . .
Glad you've looked into this case a little more.
Disappointed much of the facts of this case have been ignored in this podcast. Much more could have been covered in the time it was allotted.
Is Emily out ?
Will the lowering the average IQ cause more and more hung juries in the future?
Great episode. The good FBI that the FBI leadership often stains. The field personnel are to be respected. The top, lately, not so much.
One of the best episodes in so many ways. From appreciating what first responders go through to what those close to them feel and experience to what is sometimes needed for one reason or another what we can do to help others and how we can respond when we need help. This episode has so many facets that connect all through one person's experience that shows how we may all touch others if we just are open to the needs of others.
How many child border crossers end up like the victims of this episode. And what is Biden's cut in opening and keeping open the border.
Why John keeps chumming for distractions when he very well knows who killed his daughter is un-understandable. He could just as well let it settle and be forgotten.
Rate 100% Emily is excellent. I am bragging to the world !
I remember this story when it happened realtime. I now know the whole story as an adult. God Bless all of the people who were directly effected by this horrible event. What a brave person to come so very far working through the emotional and mental aftermath of her enduring such an event. It is sad and completely without foresight for Newsome to pardon the villains without a thought to the mental and emotional health of survivors of such events.
This is a clear case of domestic abuse. It is not as uncommon as you think for the father to kill his children to hurt their mother.
Just finished this episode, and wow, the FBI agent was so transparent. I have heard several stories about these murders, but this one was deep. It left me praying for him, the victims families, and other LE that carry such burdens. Great job on all your podcasts, Emily. You ask all the right questions, in my opinion. God bless you all.
Great Pod!
It's one of the best podcasts I've listened to. Great job Emily.
