Lilly, PhD to discuss Avoidance and the Importance of Peer Support.  Michelle M. Lilly, PhD Biography  Dr. Michelle Lilly is a Professor of Clinical Psychology at Northern Illinois University (NIU). She completed her undergraduate training at Brown University before earning her doctorate in clinical psychology at University of Michigan in 2008. Throughout her professional career, Dr. Lilly has studied the psychological and physical impact of violence and trauma. Early in her career at NIU, she became involved in research with 9-1-1 telecommunicators and has continued to focus on this understudied population. Dr. Lilly’s research on mental and physical health in the 9-1-1 industry has been used to argue for job reclassification for 9-1-1 telecommunicators across the nation. She has done training across the country on the topics of PTSD, stress management, and resilience for a variety of public safety audiences. Currently, Dr. Lilly holds a grant from the state of Illinois to provide free trainings on PTSD and suicide for law enforcement. She is also the owner of 9-1-1 Recovers, a telebehavioral health practice for public safety and their families that provides evidence-based intervention for PTSD, depression, and anxiety. In addition, she provides organizational assessment and consultation through Lilly Consulting. Kevin is a chaplain with the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police, serves as faculty for the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, and is an adjunct professor at Olivet Nazarene University. He has extensive training and experience in crisis response, disasters, chaplaincy, pastoral ministries, marriage and family therapy, and social services. As an author and speaker, Kevin teaches broadly on the aforementioned topics. In this quick tips episode, guest speaker Dr. Victor Welzant provides information on effective suicide intervention. Victor Welzant, PsyD, is the Director of Education and Training and past member of the Board of Directors of the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, based in Ellicott City, MD. Victor previously served as Director of Acute Trauma Services for the Sheppard Pratt Health System and as a consultant to the State of Maryland, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in the area of disaster behavioral health. Victor maintains a private consulting and clinical practice in Towson MD, where he specializes in the treatment of Trauma and Stress related conditions, organizational training, and program development. Victor is the Clinical Director for the Anne Arundel Fire Dept. Critical Incident Stress Management team in MD, as well as a supervisor for the Sheppard Pratt Health Care CISM team development. He is a consultant to the Harford County Maryland Sheriff’s Department’s Crisis Negotiation, and Peer Support teams and serves on the adjunct faculty of Towson University in Psychology, Nursing, and Homeland Security. Victor currently serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Emergency Mental Health.
