The problem with populism is that the public generally gets what they want. The public generally gives no consideration to second order or even further removed impacts. The public eventually gets what it wants, good and hard.
Todays center left republican party has become an intersectional coalition of common sense, sanity, and reasonableness. Nothing to cheer about from a policy perspective. There's an urgent need to fortify red states for when the dims regain power and continue ratchetting Overton window left. There's nothing within this coalition that has the vision, or will drive effective long term policy prescriptions to meet that objective.

Where were these self enriching conservative talkers while Trump was endorsing every center left rino he could recruit while shutting out conservative candidates? I could follow on with what I perceive as Elon's fiscal policy to be. A dose of fiscal sanity mixed with some some well strategized policy prescriptions could go far. I expect we'd differ on H1B visas and possibly #GreenGraft depending where he falls on these issues.
