Description

In a culture trying to sell us the lie that we should be anything but “just a mom”, Joy Filled exists to come alongside you and help you thrive in this season at home and experience the fullness of joy in the simplicity of homemaking and raising a family. The early years of motherhood are hard, but they’re so so good. I’m determined to give these ‘good old days’ everything I’ve got and I’m bringing you along with me.

We’ll host honest conversations on faith, motherhood, homemaking, and everything in between. My prayer is that you leave encouraged in Christ, equipped to carry the weight of motherhood with joy, and reminded of the truth that God has given you everything you need to steward your arrows well.

There is so much joy here. Let’s experience it together.

When it comes to our kids, discipleship often feels like this big, intimidating thing that we know we need to do but we’re not quite sure how to do. Right? Here’s the good news, friend: discipleship is actually quite simple, and it’s not something we need to stress about or feel pressure about. It’s less about the big, planned moments and more about you as a parent making the conscious decision to center your life around Christ. When you make Christ the center of your home, discipleship is inevitable. As the apostle Paul said, follow me as I follow Christ. So today we’re going to discuss what discipleship is, why we should care about it, and we’ll talk about two different types of discipleship and how to be sure they are both happening in your children’s lives. So lean in and let’s get into another episode of The Joy Filled Podcast.“These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be a symbol on your forehead. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your city gates.”–Deuteronomy 6:6-9 CSBJoin the free Joy Filled CommunityFollow the Joy Filled Podcast on Instagram! The Joy Filled podcast is a part of the Christian Parenting Podcast Network. This time of year, there is often a lot of pressure and weight on us mamas to do and be everything for everyone. We’ve got presents to buy, decorations to be hung, parties to host, treats to bake, and the list goes on. If we’re not careful, we’ll get so caught up in the hustle and bustle of the most wonderful time of the year that we’ll forget to ever stop and wonder at the magnificence of the reason why we celebrate in the first place - that little baby that was laid in a manger all those years ago.   So today I’m sharing with you the one thing that has helped me the most when it comes to keeping the peace and joy in this time of year. Overwhelm is something we all face, but it’s not something we need to try to avoid or outrun. You will experience overwhelm in life, that’s a guarantee, but overwhelm is a feeling to acknowledge, not a place to camp out and take on as an identity. So instead of trying to figure out how to avoid it, in this episode we’re going to talk about how to move through it, lean into it and give it the attention it deserves, and continue on forward because just like every other feeling we experience, overwhelm is simply a messenger alerting us that some things aren’t quite right. We’re all trying our best to handle it all, whatever “it” is for you. Motherhood, family, work life. Balancing home and kids and social activities and all the things. It can feel sort of impossible to handle it all, right? Friend, I’ve got good news - you and I were never created to handle it all on our own. We were created to be in community with the Lord, walking with him, working with him, and inviting him into every portion of our lives as we cast our cares on Him.   One of the best ways to truly “cast our cares” is through prayer. So often I hear of women who are afraid to pray or simply don’t know how to pray, so today we are talking all things prayer in hopes that you leave with a clear understanding of what prayer is and how we can apply it to our lives. We’ll talk through things like the basics of prayer, the different kinds of prayer, when and how to pray, and writing out your prayers.   I hope you enjoy this episode of The Joy Filled Podcast! Friendship is TOUGH! There, I said it. Today on the podcast, Elizabeth Laing Thompson is joining us to talk through all the questions we’ve all been asking about friendship - how to make new friends, how to nurture lifelong friendships, and what to do when friendships fall apart. In Elizabeth’s brand new book When a Friendship Falls Apart, she comes alongside readers as they process their struggling friendships—the faltering, the fractured, and the failed. Blending personal story, biblical examples, and faith-filled wisdom, each page explores questions like the following: How do we guard against the poison of bitterness so we can process the hurt and move forward? When and how do we seek reconciliation? What does forgiveness look like? How do we know when it’s time to leave a friendship behind? How do we open up again and entrust our wounded hearts to new friendships? If you find yourself in the midst of a friendship that’s falling apart, or you’re grappling with past hurts and regrets, I hope you enjoy this podcast episode and I encourage you to grab a copy of Elizabeth’s new book, When a Friendship Falls Apart.   Grab When a Friendship Falls Apart Connect with Elizabeth Join the free Joy Filled Community Connect with Jenna on Instagram Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Three years ago this month I launched The Joy Filled Podcast after spending just a few short months researching and learning about how in the world I'd actually launch a podcast. In that research, I stumbled upon a podcast by my now mentor and friend, Stefanie Gass, who taught me so much of what I know about podcasting today.   Stefanie Gass is a Christian business and podcast coach, boundary boss, boy mom, and multi-six-figure CEO. She helps women grow their online businesses and make money online, using podcasting. She is the host of a top 25 globally ranked business podcast, Online Business for Christian Women. She believes it's possible to partner with God to create income and impact without sacrificing your family, faith, or buying into social media hustle.   Stefanie truly has a gift in helping women get clear on their callings and launch successful podcasts, and myself and this podcast is a reflection of that gift. If you’ve ever wondered or asked me about podcasting and how I got started, I’ve probably sent you in Stef’s direction. It is truly full circle to have her here on Joy Filled today and I am so honored to get to introduce you to her. I hope you enjoy this episode of The Joy Filled Podcast with my very own mentor, Stefanie Gass. Stef's FREE Podcasting Workshop! I’m sure you’ve been there. You want to show up and be who you’re made to be, step into your purpose, do the things you’re called to do (or even just the things you’re *supposed* to do), but you just can’t find it in you to actually *do* the things. I know I can’t be the only one who has gone through seasons where it’s hard to find motivation to even get a meal on the table, let alone all the other stuff. Wondering, how do I do it? How do I show up for all the things that need to be done, all the people that need me, all the tasks I’m supposed to do, even when I don’t feel like it? And with a culture SO focused on following our feelings, it’s no surprise we’re all asking the same question.   So how do we show up even when we don’t feel like it? Today, we’re answering that question because trust me, I am no stranger to this struggle and, lucky for you, I’ve learned a thing or two along the way. One of the things that has been absolutely pivotal for me in motherhood is understanding and prioritizing nutrition and the role proper nutrition plays in my hormones, energy, mood, mental clarity, and so many other things. For a long time I was the mom surviving on 3-4 cups of coffee and maybe one real meal a day, and I was also exhausted, overwhelmed, and worn out most days. I thought that was normal. I thought that's just how it was for moms. But over the past year or so I've learned a lot about nutrition and one of the most encouraging things for me was realizing how simple it actually is to nourish my body and give it what it needs to thrive. I know this isn’t a health podcast, but I believe that health and leading a joy filled life go hand in hand, which is why I invited my friend Kirsti Troyer.   Kirsti Troyer is a registered dietitian of 8 years who started studying the connection between nutrition and hormones due to her own period problems. She now helps women support their hormones naturally with food. Specifically focusing on improving energy, metabolism and eating in sync with your menstrual cycle. She has a goal of simplifying nutrition and decreasing the overwhelm so you can nourish your body well. Kirsti lives in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with her husband & daughter. You can easily find her on Instagram @nutrition.withkirsti.   Join the free Joy Filled Community Connect with Jenna on Instagram Grab Kirsti’s Meal Planning Course! I loved this episode so much and shared it with a friend. My kids are older but the feelings of overwhelm are the same and it's so relatable. I loved your heartfelt prayer at the end and all the encouragement you shared. Thank you!
