An odd stretch of time is when something significant changes the vibe of your daily life over a handful of days. Whether it’s a sickness, an injury, a guest, a project, it impacts your routines. It upends previously settled calendar logistics. It’s not always bad or even unwanted. It’s just odd. Let’s talk about navigating it well. I’ve been doing a lot of interviews recently, and a lot of the questions are understandably connected to the things we could or should be doing to have a better day. What are the routines, the tasks, the hacks that can get us to a place where we feel like we’re not underwater all the time? Well, the most accurate answer is that those aren’t the questions we should be asking. We really need a huge paradigm shift, and today, I want to focus on aspects of time management we’ve been getting wrong. We do What’s Saving My Life episodes regularly, just about every quarter, and I find the practice helpful, light, enjoyable, and necessary to keep me rooted in my season. But today is a little different because it is a Hall of Fame episode. Remember, this is my personal list. This is not supposed to be replicated. Hear why these things are on my list to help you make yours, but by no means should our lists be the same. Everyone has calendars to logistic (I know that’s not right, but I like it), and for certain people, seasons, families, those logistics feel like they’re going to eat you alive. Right now, my Google calendar has so many blocks in it, some of which overlap and I haven’t quite figured out how to reconcile those overlaps yet. It’s a whole thing, and maybe your calendar looks or at least feels like that. So let’s talk about how to do this like a Lazy Genius. How can you manage calendar logistics in a reasonably efficient, intentionally kind way?  Helpful Companion Links Pre-order my new book The PLAN or ask your library to consider carrying a copy once it releases in October. We’re into compassionate time management around here, but it’s not just pep talks and high fives. We’re practical and kind, but we’re also educated. We are trying to understand why we struggle with time management, why we own so many planners, why we never feel like we’re doing enough, and even if we finally have let that go, we still struggle against the tide of everyone else making us feel bad for our beliefs. Basically, the problem is not you, and today I’m going to show you why by reading you the first chapter in my new book, out October 8, called The PLAN. When you feel overwhelmed without knowing what to do, the overwhelming feeling stays big and might get bigger which then feels like a problem. So here you are, overwhelmed, unsure of what to do about it; the feeling gets bigger, the problem, even though it’s unnamed, also gets bigger, and so you start throwing big solutions at an unnamed problem that don’t work, which then causes you to feel even more overwhelmed.  Instead, today I want to share with you seven ways to meet overwhelm. As often happens when we go through life, we learn things along the way. And sometimes we learn things that we so desperately wish we had learned earlier. Does that negate their value now? No. Is learning part of the process? Of course. But I think we can learn a lot about ourselves now by acknowledging what we have already learned. Since it’s middle of summer energy, this felt like a great time to share ten things I wish I’d known in my 20s. Let’s jump right in.   Helpful Companion Links Pre-order my new book The PLAN or ask your library to consider carrying a copy once it releases in October. This episode is for those of you who would classify yourselves as readers and those of you who would not. I want us to look at the aspects of summer reading that are all over the Internet right now and decide if they are in or out for us as Lazy Geniuses. Are we paying attention to the best things? My first book The Lazy Genius Way introduces 13 Lazy Genius principles that help you name what matters, ditch what doesn’t, and get stuff done. The first of those principles is Decide Once. Very useful podcast! Kedra, you are truly a genius! I haven't come across such an interesting podcast for a long time, except for the article on how to be chill at school: https://educhill.com/education/how-to-be-chill-in-school/. Now I really don't worry about studying.

For Angela's question, I want to share that I recently hung two single clothes hooks inside my walk-in closet where I hang my clothes in transition (i.e.wearing again soon, tomorrow's outfit, etc.) They are off of the floor, not draped over furniture, and hidden from view.

I just had to chime in here and share my thoughts on "The Lazy Genius Podcast." I've been an avid listener for quite some time now, and I must say, it's an absolute gem in the sea of podcasts out there. https://hubpages.com/@deli-paper Kendra's approach to embracing both laziness and genius in our lives is refreshingly unique. It's like she's giving us permission to take a step back, simplify things, and still achieve greatness. Her tips on efficient routines, clever life hacks, and the art of making seemingly complex tasks more manageable have been a game-changer for me. https://www.behance.net/deli-paper-pros

I love to have a zero inbox and so one of my things is delete what needs to be deleted, or respond to the things that can be responded and then delete that or I move it to a "to-do" folder which are messages that need to be handled or have been put on the other person to respond but do not need to be in my inbox any longer. I then review that folder a couple times a week for what needs attention or be deleted if it's been done.

THIS was the piece I needed, after (mind blown) reading The Lazy Genius Way. Thank you. Is there anywhere you post the full process of Lazy Genius-ing people's problems, to help us layfolks out here get a better idea of the scope and how the principles are applied?

New listener, 6 years late! At 14:58, you said Nick Flora was the first person you’re interviewing for the podcast - I’m just curious if this was recorded before the first episode that you had your best friend on? Or is it a matter of format, or that she was a close friend and Nick isn’t? (I can’t help noticing the discrepancy.)

I've had a similar experience picking up a car internationally, so my genius husband bought me a charging block that I always travel with to prevent not being able to charge my phone, so calamity averted. also when traveling internationally you need to know how to change the settings on the car's GPS (if you are fortunate to get) so you can understand the language. lastly, for international travel, Google translate is your best friend! love your ideas and tips! BTW my daughter lives in Winston-Salem as well.
