Despite that victory, seven Democrats and Senator Angus King joined Republicans to reopen the government. Angus King (I-ME) and Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) defended their votes—King arguing that "standing up to Trump didn't work," and Shaheen claiming the move would allow Democrats to draft another bill... that Republicans will certainly vote against.
