Dutton Family DNA

Throughout “1883”, “1923”, and “Yellowstone” we meet seven generations of Duttons. So how does everyone connect? Jefferson and Jen map out the Dutton lineage starting with James and Margaret Dutton who first settled on the patch of Montana land that later became the Yellowstone Ranch.
Violence has always haunted the Dutton family and now we’re taking stock of those we lost. Deadline’s Lynette Rice joins Jefferson and Jen to look back at the heroes and villains that have departed the Yellowstone universe over the decades. From train station drop-offs to shootouts, they recap conflicts on the Dutton ranch that turned deadly and discuss how each death has impacted the plot, audience, and other characters in the series.
It’s the season 5 mid-season finale which ends on one helluva cliffhanger. So what’s next for all of our favorite characters? Wes Bentley stops by to share all the details about Jamie’s revenge plot. Along with calls for impeachment, Beth’s rock throwing and tests of loyalty for young Rip, there’s also the return of our very own Jimmy!
Is Gator really a good cook? What is Cowboy Camp like? Jen and Jefferson answer these audience questions and more about what life is like behind the scenes on Dutton Ranch. Then Lilli Kay (“Clara Brewer”) stops by to talk about what it was like to join the Yellowstone cast and work alongside Kevin Costner. Watch the mid-season finale of Yellowstone on Paramount Network next Sunday, January 1 at 8 pm ET then join Jen and Jefferson as they unpack the episode on the podcast.
Jen and Jefferson debrief on Yellowstone season 5 episode 7 then dive into the premiere of the prequel, “1923”. At the ranch, the gathering takes a turn for the worst when brucellosis is discovered among the bison. To prevent transmission of the disease among the Yellowstone cows they must relocate the herd, along with half of the bunkhouse, Meanwhile, Jamie learns of Market Equities' plan to attempt impeachment. Then everyone confronts their relationships ahead of the one-year split at the fair. Everything operates around what the herd needs and things were no different in “1923” — Jefferson and Jen discuss the new Yellowstone origin story which is set against the backdrop of the roaring 20s and prohibition.
Before recapping season 5 episode 6, Jen and Jefferson discuss “1923” the Yellowstone prequel that premieres Dec. 18 on Paramount+. Then Jen and Jefferson reflect on the loss of a beloved character during the gathering journey down Mount Chisolm. They also catch up on all the romances this season, from Jamie and Sarah’s frantic passion rooted in ulterior motives to Abby and Ryan’s love song. Meanwhile, Broken Rock Reservation faces a number of threats, including from within as Angela Blue Thunder props up a young political opponent for Chief Thomas Rainwater. Then Rainwater himself, Gil Birmingham, joins Jen and Jefferson to discuss the uneasy alignment between Rainwater and John Dutton around the fact that the land is the life force for all humanity. He also gets personal and shares his acting process including how he based his character on interactions with the Chairman of his own tribe.
In season 5 episode 5, John cancels all his meetings to join the Yellowstone cowboys for the gathering and branding of cattle. Jen and Jefferson recap the gathering and other big moments, including the disastrous dinner that results in a “slugfest” between Summer and Beth as their relationship finally reaches a boiling point. Then CMA’s Female Vocalist of the Year Lainey Wilson (“Abby”) joins the podcast to discuss her acting debut on Yellowstone. She also talks about her songwriting process and her new songs that premiered in the series.
Jen and Jefferson debrief on season 5 episode 4 and what it was like heeling calves for branding. Then, Piper Perabo (“Summer Higgins”) shares how Taylor Sheridan wrote the role of Summer based on her real-life experience of being arrested for civil disobedience. She shares her affinity for fly fishing and how working on Yellowstone opened her up to the large indigenous community in the state of Montana and the sport of horse cutting.
Jen Landon (“Teeter”) reunites with Bunkhousemate Jefferson to co-host this season of The Official Yellowstone Podcast. New political power, a family tragedy, and a pack of troublesome wolves — Jefferson and Jen recap the first three episodes of Yellowstone Season 5. They debrief all the current plotlines including new enemies and allies that have debuted this season, like Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri) and Clara Brewer (Lilli Kay). Along the way, they share insights about which of their fellow cast members are real-life cowboys, stunts, and even robot dancing on set.

Beth is without a doubt the most repulsive female character I have ever seen. She is extremely wicked beyond all things.
