The tall-but-true tale of a charismatic outlaw, an iconic small-town sheriff, and the record-setting drug bust that ensnared them both. Set in the rugged Texas borderlands, host Rob D’Amico transports listeners back to the U.S. side of the border for the opening salvo of the War on Drugs … where so much dirty money was swirling across the Rio Grande that even the most incorruptible citizens would be tempted. In the tradition of films like No Country for Old Men and Charles Portis novels, Witnessed: Borderlands mashes up the shockingly real and the deeply surreal, chronicling not just the events of a crime, but digging deep into the mystery and aura of one of America’s most myth-soaked regions.

Richard exhibits clear symptoms of an autism spectrum disorder. You can’t use the fact that he doesn’t have an emotional response as evidence.

Being uncomfortable with facts about one community or another doesn't change them. And this lady is smart enough to know that. Minimizing or hiding those facts is disgusting, dishonest and disingenuous. And potentially dangerous. She knows that too. Instead of excusing or dismissing antisocial, violent proclivities, demand they change. Not that everyone else accepts and ignores the facts. No matter how much you lie or ignore a fact, it doesn't change.
A couple hundred dollars is "insignificant"? That privilege reeks so bad I can smell it from here.
FIX YOUR SH*T, SONY
to use your family this way to try to make money it's just so disgusting
This episode is ridiculous. Presh sounds awful. And the family is awful for hating Richard who did nothing wrong at all.
More Richard bashing.
ms. Larrison, your style reminds me of Brian Reed from S-town, and I really enjoy listening to you.
sad that the police academy is only 8 weeks. my son was an officer in Nashville and did 22 grueling weeks of training.

It's not clear why the entire family hates Richard. The host seems very intolerant and judgemental. His crimes so far- he loves his home town, organised a festival, worked at a radio station, didn't get married and takes care of his elderly mother...so he must be a murderer? Its ridiculous. Maybe later episodes will make things clearer but right now the family seem like jerks.
It takes a special kind of person to, objectively, tell their family's story and be able to recognize all the ugliness and negatives. This host is NOT that type of person. She fails to see both her and her family’s negatives and she's too close to the story to be objective. My prediction is the podcast ends the way it began; with the host passive-aggressively accusing her uncle, the black sheep of her parent's generation, without any actual evidence for the accusation. In short, this isn't a podcast about an unsolved murder, this is a podcast about how family disfunction can be passed down over multiple generations.
Hi
I mean, the singing.
well presented story. I enjoyed every episode. I just wondered why no mention was made about Marry Carson's financial situation? if he was in the meth trade there should be some evidence like living in an expensive house or fancy cars or vacations..... how come it wasn't mentioned? but still you guys did a great job!
Are these people really THIS blind to their cultural appropriation? Like saying Namaste at the end of her defence? These people are genuinely frustrating to listen to!
Great series!
really disturbing that Feds wished the sheriff had lied and presented that it was a rogue sting operation rather than be thrown in jail for the crime he committed or that they didn't follow the money to figure out how he was able to afford all the property he owned to show he had been doing this for a while.
I couldn't agree more 🧐 This has been an awesome experience listening to this story.... I will be continuing this podcast one episode at a time. Thank you for this awesome podcast...
