It's easy to get discouraged when you look at all the things that could or should be happening. But focusing on "better" all along the way is how you get there. And celebrating "better" is one of the best ways to keep going! Mentioned: My booksBecome a Patron of the show.Need (or want to be) a decluttering coach? Hosted on Acast. Last week, I shared six things I still struggle with in my home, and this week I'm sharing the good news! There are things that definitely used to be a struggle that aren't a struggle any more. What a relief! For most of my life, I didn't think I'd conquer these things. Important links: My booksWant to be a patron of the show? Find out how at Patreon. I've been told many times that some people find encouragement from knowing that this "slob struggle" is a lifelong struggle. Knowing that it isn't something that ever goes away means you don't have to feel defeated when you find yourself struggling, you just need to apply the strategies that help you manage this struggle successfully. My booksWant to be a patron of the show? I'm often asked what to do when things definitely fit into the space (the container concept) but it's still too much stuff. That's where your Clutter Threshold comes in. I! MISSED! YOU!
Definitely not entirely related to one or the other. probably effected by both, but not one or the other. My mom is a clean freak, she grew up in very unstable environment, not clean or safe. It was her mission to not have us, or her, continue to experience the same. Plus she's very type A kinda personality. I am very not. My kids have a safe, reasonably clean, but cluttered, and a touch chaotic home lol. 5 kids and we homeschool, so there's Alot of people and stuff in a small house!
I don’t see any problem with asking my husband, “hey can you please put your drill away?” 🤷🏻♀️ and sometimes I do just put his stuff away himself. My hubby is very easy going enough that a little nagging isn’t a big deal with him though
And now it’s kind of a game for me to constantly be trying to stay on top of the kitchen throughout the day!
The things you say that were profound for you but seem like “duh” reality once you know it, resonate so truly with me. The fact that a clean kitchen means someone cleaned it - I needed to accept this just like you did. It has been so helpful to me and for some reason I am no longer annoyed that I have to do the same things over and over to keep things maintained. You are my favorite of all the cleaning/decluttering/organizing people I’ve listened to. You just “click” with me! ♥️

I’ve been using Ritual vitamins for a couple years now and love them and love how easy the subscription is to manage! Glad to hear they’re one of your sponsors!
Really liked this episode! So true about maintaining, especially dishes! I also love the idea of the clutter threshold! Am currently going through the biggest decluttering purge I’ve ever done and it’s going great! Thanks for your podcast, books and YouTube videos!❤️
The sneak attack is terrible advice. Especially for a child that may have any sort of processing issue, or add, adhd, ocd, ect. This happened to me several times as a child and it was traumatic and still makes me feel upset when I think about it.
Also, this is my first ever podcast, and I found it upon recommendation, came to the list, and pulled the finger equivalent of the Price Is Right wheel, scrolling down and chose a random one. The Universe provides, though, because holy bananas - you're speaking to my soul here! I struggle with hoarding, and long to be like my best friend, who naturally tidies/straightens throughout the day without thinking about it. I love the concept of separating out these terms, and I'm going to download some of these podcasts for a trip I have tomorrow - this is really helpful. Thank you, so much!!
That avalanche of stuff is what we call a "Crapalanche" 😁😔
I don't mean to be disrespectful or anything, but don't your husband and kids ever help? it seems like there's constant mess and there's no way it's just you making it, but I never hear about them helping. why is this hard work delegated only to you?

Thats what I have always put in my daughters stocking! I never put useless crap in there. It's always either an orange or avacado and then candy and cards and pokemon stuff or whatever vinyl figure she is into at the moment! LOL
I would assume their reaction would be a good one! You are helping so many people!
Thias is my liiiiife!!!! The dishes and washing 2 single forms to use! LOL
OMG I was the exact same as a child and still am!!! I have a daughter and am a messy person! I hate it!! Only because everyone else bugs me! LOL I love organization and being neat but I don't have the time!!!v Help!!! i subscribed to your blog years ago and I just moved and we are getting a new house i feel like I will be better but now IDK
We got rid of our coffee table in the living room, when I realized that its chief function was to be the place we dropped things and then left them. Getting rid of that piece of furniture was a huge help in getting my living room clutter under control.
enjoying the podcast. seeing that there is hope for me
