Description

“Opportunity is a Matter of Perspective” (ft. Zion Clark, Speaker, Athlete & Author of Zion Unmatched)

Multiplying your potential when life tries to subtract your possibilities

OPENING QUOTE:

“Part of growing is accepting what life is in that moment, and still pushing forward anyway. I accepted that my life was crappy, shitty, just not very desirable at all. But at the same time I was like, 'Well, whatever happens happens. I'm just going to keep trying my best every day.'”

- Zion Clark

GUEST BIO:

Zion Clark was born with a rare birth defect called Caudal Regression Syndrome, causing him to be born without legs. He was given up by his mother at birth, and Zion spent 17 years in foster care moving between nine different homes that saw him experience everything from lack of support to all-out abuse. Six months before aging out of the foster system, he was adopted by his now-mother who changed his life forever. He went on to become an elite wheelchair racer and star of a Netflix documentary on his way to Paralympic Gold.

CORE TOPICS + DETAILS:

[5:40 ] - Survival Before Success

Redefining what it means to “succeed”

Before Zion could even dream of success or achievement, his life was a matter of survival. It’s a fact of life that many children in the foster care system and otherwise don’t have the same opportunities that others do. This is something Zion is working to change, and it’s up to all of us to recognize that success looks different depending on where you are and where you started.

[17:18 ] - 10 Years of Ass Kicking

Lessons from a decade of struggle

If there’s one thing Zion Clark knows how to do, it’s endure. He didn’t give up after a year of wrestling struggles, or five years, or ten years. Then, when he found the right coaches, it was like rocket fuel in his engine. He would go on to win match after match, and never looked back.

[27:25 ] - Smiling with Bloody Teeth

Is it possible to enjoy being hit in the face?

Zion speaks gleefully about his love for physical pain— “even if you hit me, I’m still smiling.” This comfort with discomfort, even at the physical level, is something we all can learn from in both our careers and our everyday struggles in life.

[38:57 ] - Inspire Your Way

From stage to field

Paul does his inspiring on keynote stages. Zion does his at meets, wrestling matches, and in weight rooms. To inspire means to breathe life into something or someone. How do you breathe life into the people around you?
