Alexis Korner, the godfather of British blues, played a pivotal role in shaping the early British blues scene. Born in Paris to Austrian and Greek parents, Korner discovered his love for American blues music during World War Two. He became a central figure in the post-war British music scene, influencing and developing the genre without becoming a major star himself. Korners records featured a whos who of British talent, and he opened The London Blues and Barrelhouse Club in Soho, bringing American blues artists to London. He formed Blues Incorporated, a band that included future members of The Rolling Stones and Cream, and later found success with CCS, a big band that blended jazz and blues. Despite his immense influence, Korner remained a purist and passed away in 1984, but his legacy as the man who ushered in a new generation of blues artists lives on.
