I thoroughly enjoy this podcast. However, This episode I am questioning. If this man was born with syphilis, isn’t that the main reason for his mental illness? It causes psychosis, personality changes, anxiety, depression, etc. I mean that describes him completely. I don’t think he had schizophrenia. I think it was strictly neurosyphilis related symptoms. TBI’s would make it worse. Psychosis can cause hallucinations. I know I’m not an expert, but doesn’t neurosyphilis explain his behavior enough?

Kids tend to express unvarnished honesty, often without meaning to. As adults, we should listen more. When this kid said that nobody wanted him and he was better off dead, somebody should have listened.
