After last weeks chat with Darius Charles, we stay on the football theme with another ex Professional footballer, Robbie Elliott. Robbie had almost two decades as a professional footballer, playing over 140 times for his beloved Newcastle United and over 250 appearances in total, which also included spells at Sunderland, Leeds, Hartlepool and an eventful four years at Bolton Wanderers. 

Over his career, he’ worked under some iconic managers including Ossie Ardiles, Kevin Keegan, Kenny Dalglish, Sam Allardyce and Sir Bobby Robson and we chat about all of those managers and the twists and turns Robbie had across his career and his learning from that. 

I met Robbie first when he was working for the Nike research lab and he’s forged a career in sports technology, innovation and performance since his retirement. All of that we will chat about in part two next week, but as we sat outside the bustling Westfield shopping centre in West London, we started with Robbie’s time in the Newcastle academy and how that compares to the modern-day set-up.
