Description

We just had a concrete pour at Dhammagiri for the new patio in front of our Dhammahall. Ajahn Dhammasiha uses the process of propery preparing and executing a concrete pour as a simile for our development of meditation:

  1. We need a foundation = Good Karma
  2. We need steel reinforcements = Virtue/Precepts
  3. Drawings/plans = Right View & Dhamma Knowledge
  4. We need cement - Samatha
  5. Aggregate = Vipassana
  6. Water = Faith
  7. Hard work = Viriya/Energy
  8. Fence off till cured = Solitude
  9. Pour water on conrete to cool and prevent cracks = Equanimity, not trying to rush our meditation
