On the last day of sixth grade, a preteen takes a shortcut through a quiet suburban street—one he’s walked dozens of times before. But this time, there’s a car parked in the distance… engine off, someone sitting inside. As he passes, the figure calls out, “Excuse me.” When the boy turns, he’s met with something unnatural—pitch-black eyes staring back at him. No whites. No irises. Just void. He runs, but that face follows him in dreams for years.
