CANES POSTCAST: Miami HURRICANES DOMINATE 2nd HALF in 42-7 WIN OVER STANFORD Cardinal
Description
Mark Fletcher Jr. ran for over a hundred yards and scored a career-high 3 touchdowns, the Miami defense held Stanford to just 70 yards of offense after the Cardinal’s touchdown drive on their opening possession, HC Mario Cristobal’s team cut way back in the penalties and did not turn the ball over, as the 9th-ranked Hurricanes (6-1, 2-1 ACC) scored on 6 of their last 7 possessions to get back in the win column after last week’s loss against Louisville in a 42-7 blowout at Hard Rock Stadium.
Carson Beck bounced back from his 1st career 4-interception game, going 21-28 with a TD pass and no interceptions.
Jordan Lyle and Girard Pringle Jr. also ran for
Touchdowns for Miami, as the ‘Canes got back to running the ball after 6 straight quarters of not moving the ball- or the chains- on their ground.
Freshman phenom Malachi Toney put up 138 all-purpose yards- 73 of them on punt returns- to continue his all-world 1st season for Miami.
But the biggest story of this game was the Miami defense, which smothered Stanford all night after the opening TD.
Wesley Bissainthe’s interception and 32-yard return in the 3rd quarter gave Miami a 1st and goal at the 3-yard line, and Xavier Lucas’ pick on the very next Stanford possession gave the Canes the ball deep in Stanford territory.
Fletcher scored after both, and the route was on.
Lucas added a sack and 3 tackles- 1 for a loss.
The Hurricanes did turn the ball over on downs 2x and missed a 44-yard field goal on their opening drive, the 1st miss of the season by Carter Davis.
