Today’s guest is Doug Bopst, award winning personal trainer, author, speaker, and podcast host. Doug has an incredible transformation story from a former incarcerated drug addict to where he is today and says he is lucky to have survived his 25th birthday. Through perseverance and a complete mindset shift, Doug turned his pain into purpose to become a successful, multifaceted individual. In this episode, we discuss childhood trauma, how his choices that lead him down a dark path were driven by a need for acceptance, addiction to the validation of being wanted or needed, why drugs created a false sense of confidence at his most insecure point in life, coping with anxiety and depression, understanding that no one is coming to save you, finding the strength to push past rock bottom and the pivotal moment that turned his life around, fitness as medicine for physical and mental health, tips for staying disciplined and becoming your own biggest advocate, doing the work and saving your own life. I was so inspired after talking to Doug and I think conversations like these are so important to have, whether it's my own rock bottom story or someone else's. Even though all of our stories are different, I hope to anyone listening who may be struggling that this shows that there's a light at the end of the tunnel and you CAN find the strength to push yourself past your adversity.
