Description

The country is situated between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, and is bordered by Cuba and Puerto Rico. With a total land area of approximately 48,442 square kilometers, the Dominican Republic is the second largest country in the Caribbean, after Cuba. The population of the country is approximately 10.6 million people, with the majority living in urban areas such as the capital city, Santo Domingo (2,201,941), Santiago (1,200,000), and La Romana (208,437). The official language is Spanish, and the country has a diverse culture that has been shaped by its indigenous, African, and European heritage.
